Christian Doesn't Believe Bible

How do you get through to someone who claims they are saved and believes in Jesus and God but says the bible is not true for today because they say there are many translations and they say its not true. I try to talk to them about it and they reply I don't want to talk about it.

Moderator - Prayer and fasting. If someone doesn't believe in the Bible, they aren't saved.

This person is not saved. And they know it. If you don't believe the bible you don't believe in God or anything connected with Him. They have a bad spirit or possibly a demon, they are dealing with. This person needs spiritual help.I would make myself scarce around this person but do continue to pray for him/her that the eyes of their heart would be opened.
---Robyn on 3/24/08

The person who claims to be saved may very well be. And this person's knowledge of "the Bible" not being true for today, is because many different kinds of Bibles are on the market today, and in fact most of them are untrue and corrupt and unholy. The original scriptures are holy, but the new-and-improved fandangle Bibles being sold are actually full of errors. The 1560 Geneva Bible is the best English version.
---Eloy on 3/20/08

Jackie if a person says the Bible is not the truth then they can't claim to be saved by Christ in whom they don't believe can they? It isn't me who says they are not Christian as they condemn themselves. I and others are just stating the obvious.
---Warwick on 8/7/07

Biblical inerrancy was taught by Jesus Himself, e.g. "Scripture cannot be broken" (John 10:35). See also "The Chicago Statement on Biblical Inerrancy" to explain thoroughly what this means -- and does NOT mean! Also, Tekton Apologetics Ministries answers all the alleged contradictions in errors you can think of (and many you haven't thought of!).

I'm a Christian. I confessed that Jesus Christ is Lord, but I don't understand all of the different interpretations of the Bible and how someone -- another Christian -- can stand in judgement of another Christian and say they aren't saved because of the lack of understanding of the Bible. It's attitudes like that that keep people out of church.
---Jackie_Starr on 8/7/07

If someone says they're Christian but don't believe Scripture then obviously they aren't a Biblical Christian-not Christian at all.

I would ask what stops them believing the Bible is historically accurate. I'm sure you would find their understanding of Scripture was undermined by something in their education. When I have asked such a question the most common reply was something like-I learned science & it proves the Bible wrong-which it doesn't. See creationontheweb dot com for proof.

Moderator again you are correct. Why take anyones word that they are saved? The Person of the Holy Spirit will testify that the word of God is true. Not part of it but the whole of it. Don't try to convince an unbeliever, you are wasteing your time.

I haven't met one person with the knowledge of the things you listed who was a Bible-believing Christian. On the other hand, I have met plenty of people who didn't have that knowledge who were better and nicer people than the one's with the head knowledge.

Trying to convince him that any translation of the Bible is totally perfectly correct is not necessary. You probably don't believe it yourself. But he seems to have believed in the message of salvation in the Bible so what's the problem? I don't blame him for not believing every translated word to be true. It's the message that we have that is true. Maybe you can find some common ground with him in this to encourage him to read it.

You are going to have to work within their rational to deal with their issues with respect to scripture. Scripture presents religious truths but scripture is most definitely not Inerrant. They have to understand the text they are reading when it was written, by whom it was written, the historical and cultural events of the times and the reason for the writing. If readers understands original language linguistics, the principles textual and higher criticism they generally will not have problems.

In reply to the post below. Only the Father will know for certain. However there is one thing that I am certain about, no man will except Jesus and reject the words that foretold of Him. I know of no other book that makes the claim within itself to be the all inspired word of God. I know of other books that quote from the bible, however the bible quotes from no other book. To my understanding the original was translated word for word from the original writings under the directions of the Holy Spirit.

What you are seeing is the result of the preaching and teaching of the anti-christ doctrine it is the voice of the frog,he discredits every doctrine of truth until he creates the apostate church of reprobates where there is no foundational belief every man does what he thinks is right to him, they are the tares the children of disobedience they take the mark and their mind is of the beast they sell jesus their birthright for beans, waves of the ocean, they are unstable and all the curses are upon them.

Jesus is called the Word in John 1:1 and the Word of life in 1John1:1 . It is more than I can fully comprehend. It speaks of his deity.
Psalm 33:6 By the word of the Lord were the heavens made; and all the host of them by the breath of his mouth.
The sword of the Spirit is the word of God. Ephesisans 6: 17, Hebrews 4:13
I believe the sword in Jesus' mouth in Revelation is the word of God. Revelation 1:16 \ 2:12,16 \ 19:15,21
My point is don't under estimate the power of scripture.

"you don't actually think it meant that Jesus was the perfect embodiment of the Bible, do you?"
I hope they do not mean that. The Bible did not die for me.
The Word that became Jesus was that Person who was forever there. The Word, meaning the Bible, means the record of the message which God and Jesus, through various persons and means, gave us.

Just pray for them. You can't force a person to agree with what you say or believe. If they want to be ignorant let them. When you try to keep telling someone something it irritates them. Just pray what Paul prayed for the Colossian church in Colossian 1:9-14.

eliza, Many translations substitute the Spirited words from God, for uninspired words of unregenerate man, and thereby they dilute the power of God in the Holy Scripture. The title "Holy" is a misnomer for many versions, because their words are not Gods Word, and though they be scholarly rich, yet have they no Holy Spirit and have no Dunamis. Some translations omit the miracles and signs done by the Spirit, some remove the Heavenly Trinity, and some denigrate the full deity of Christ.

Do you have any idea how many in our "Christian" nations that have no concept of God, Jesus, Bible etc?
We are told "believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved." Everything else from there is learning. When presented with the word some may very well wonder why they should accept the veracity of such a book. Are they not saved untill they make that decision to accept it?

Jack, How would you know anything about Jesus, without the written word of God? Would you know his name, he is God's Son, he came to die to save us from our sins. He was crucified, buried, and rose. How would you know salvation is by grace through faith? Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing assunder of sould and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the the thoughts and intents of the heart.

5. To humble is hard for many. But God wants every piece of us. Reading Scripture with the wrong intention will give us nothing that is truth. No Geneva bible will help those that think they are equal to God. The bending of knees is hard for many and no matter how great interpretaion of bible we have nothing is going to work. It's all about the heart. Lets all begin with God and with prayer and illumination of the Holy Spirit we will begin to learn what is truth.

4. of obtaining the decision of God (Joshua 7:16; 14:2; 18:6; 1 Samuel 10:19) All things without exception, indeed, are disposed by Him, and His will is the ultimate account of all that occurs. Heaven and earth and all that is in them are the instruments through which He works His ends. The question is not about God at all, we all know who He is, the question is where is the heart of the person reading Scripture? Is it men centered? Or God centered? That is the question.

2. Elder stated, that without God's word, you are not saved. This view is God centered. God is still Sovereign and His word has power. What good does it do a men to have the best translation of Scripture, if his heart is centered around him? Nothing. God completes what He starts. God knows the heart of each one. He could allow you to go all the way wrong or He can lead you streight to Himself. Yet the church now believes men in control, and God sitting someplace been defeated everyday.
---Lupe2618 on 5/13/06

Eliza, I totally agree with you. I believe what people forget in all this talks about the Bible is "God." Where is He in all this talk? Many answer with the thought about what men has done, or written. Everything from what men do and want and read but they forget to begin with God. Its a view from men's perspective and not God's. T.S. has the answer. He brought the subject up about our prayer to God. Our willingness to learn more of the truth. What really is in our hearts towards God?
---Lupe2618 on 5/13/06

It is true that God through the Spirit may speak to men through nature and the experiences of life, leading them to believe on Him and be saved. Yet, when one is saved, they will find the Bible to be a new book, full of light and truth. For a professed Christian to not love the Bible as His revelation is really to reveal that they do not love Him, and are in darkness.

Jesus is the living word, the bible is the written word and the Holy Spirit utters the spoken word.
So what you (eloy, shira, jack) are saying is it should have never been translated in the first place, that means you all and alot of people never would hear about Jesus. I think God is Big Enough to hold His Word intact and to think otherwise is to be antiword and who is The Word Jesus Christ!

You basically agree with this person about scripture. Yes there are many different translations (different words used) but the meaning of the words are the same in all translations. (the 66 books of the bible)
part of Matt. 24:35 -but my Words will by no means pass away. Acts19:20 So the Word of The Lord grew mightily and prevailed.

Jack how many times did Jesus ask, "What sayeth the Scriptures?"
How do we/you determine your relationship with Christ apart from the Bible? Where did you find out about the possibility of Salvation apart from the Bible? You didn't!
Partial obedience is total disobedience. A person "Saved" apart from Biblical Truth is Lost.

Help: To answer your question. You don't. Whatever one believes to be true, for that one it's truth. Who are we to argue another's truth. It is for us to give them full and free liberty to think for themselves, after we have share the truth we ourselves have been given to embrace. If that one does not want to hear it he has that right. We will only give a account to The Father for our individual thoughts and the words and actions those thoughts produced.
---josef on 5/13/06

Jack: I don't know if I address the question you ask me, and I am sure it was addressed to me, "you don't actually think it meant that Jesus was the perfect embodiment of the Bible, do you?" Answer; No. The Word spoken of in John 1 is the divine uttered expression of the thoughts and nature of The Father. That which inspire the writings of the OT and NT. He choose to share that Word with man personally, embodied in Jesus.

Question TS were is the nonsense you refer to? Is it the debate or something specifically said?
---josef on 5/12/06

TS I agree 100%. However The Father has spoken to us though His Word. We don't have the benefit of a personal conversation with Jesus, we do have the written word. If we don't have confidence in a least one of translations, no matter how much we pray, The Father can only answer in the way He already has.
---josef on 5/12/06

Cont. He loves me and would not be inspiring me to search out fables. He has instructed me to correctly interpret it given the tools He has made available to me. For me that is the Strongs in combination with the KJV. That is all I can be held accountable for. If it does not suit your purpose, feel free to look else where. If you find a better source of instruction, please turn me on to it. I thirst to know Him, that's possible only if He reveals Himself to me. For me the bible is His revelation.

No sir Jack, The perfect embodiment of The Father. And all scripture was given by His inspiration. I will agree that every statement in the bible is not a statement of truth, however I do believe every word is truly stated. ---Jack on 5/12/06

a lot of good points made here, also a lot of nonsense. However, never once did I see the importance of PRAYER and seeking God mentioned. The Word is revealed to us through prayer and the work of the Holy Spirit. Yes, it has been translated many times since the original, how else do we expect it got to us?! If we would spend more time "asking" the LORD to reveal his word to us, instead of arguing with each other which version is of God and which is of the devil, we'd be a lot more grounded
---T.S. on 5/12/06

Jack. Jesus is that word made tangible to man. It is through that word that we base the faith that the Father has given us to except Jesus as savior. Without it we would have had nothing except the word of the man Jesus to place our faith. By that word we know that the man Jesus was and is the fullness of the God Head bodily.
