Where Do We Go At Death

Where do we go right after we die? Do we go in the "grave" until the resurection? Straight to the Lord in Heaven? or do we go to "Purgatory" to be purified before going to Heaven?

Donna, You got it Right!
---eliza4969 on 4/19/08

eliza, to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. Where is there reference to Purgatory in the bible? Jesus didn't tell me that, but Paul did say: but you are washed, you are sanctified, and justified by the shed blood of Jesus. The Blood cleanses us, right? not purgatory.

log 4,
In another text Paul spelled out exactly when that change from mortality to immortality would take place. In 1 Cor 15:52-23 he wrote "the trumpet shall sound...and thie mortal must put on immortality." That will be when Jesus comes in all His glory as the sound of the trumpet and we will see Him coming with power and great glory.
1 Cor 15:54 says that at that time death is swallowed up in victory. He says the same thing in 2 Cor 5:4.

log 3,
Clearly the naked or unclothed state was neither mortality nor immortality, but death in the grave. Paul realized that one did not pass instantly from being clothed with this tabernacle into being clothed with our house form heaven. Death and the grave came in between, and he reffered to this as being unclothed and naked.
---eric on 6/20/06

log 2,
Paul speaks of being clothed with "our house which is from heaven" Verse 2. He longs "that mortality might be swalowed up of life" verse 4. But the key to the entire passage lies in the description of a third condition. After desiring to be clothed with immortality paul states that "being clothed we shall not be found naked." Verse 3> Putting it yet another way he said "not for that we would be unclothed." Verse 4

Tom,1 Cor 5:8 In verse 1-8 Paul is contrasting the present mortal state with the future immortal life in heaven. Notice the expressions he uses for the two conditions
earthly house - building of God
this tabernacle - house not made with hands
mortality - our house from heaven (immortality)
in the body - absent from the body
absent from the Lord - present with the Lord

Tom I think that you would agree with me that David was a man of God.

Cont. nor be raised out of their sleep". Heb. 9:27 "And it is appointed unto man once to die, but after this the judgement". In all this I praise the LORD, I know I will again see my love ones in Christ. As for my loved ones who would not accept HIm, I know they are not being tortured, and that the pain they endure at judgement, and it will be extreme mental and emotional anguish realizing salvation was simply a matter of acceptance, will be short lived.

Cont. Our soul, as in our conscience awareness of our existence, rest as in a deep sleep with a total void conscientious. Ps 6:5 "For in death there is no remembrance of thee" Ps. 115:17 "The dead praise not the LORD, neither any that go down into silence". Ec.9:5 "For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not anything." Job 14:12 "So man lieth down, and riseth not: till the heavens be no more, they shall not awake, Cont.

Cont.Verse 23 "But every man in his own order: Christ the first fruits; afterward they that are Christ's at His coming". When we die our spirit, the breath of life, the life giving essence of the Father returns to Him. First my apologies if anyone is offend by these statements, that is not my intent. I was not going to respond to this blog, however I am compelled to do so. Understand that this is simply the truth that I have been given to embrace. The popular belief that we are instantly aware of our presence with the Father upon our death I am yet to find in scripture. I do believe that as far as conscience awareness is concerned it will be instantaneous, as we will have no concept of a passage of time. Cont.

I don't know about the rest of you, but at the moment of death my spirit will go to be with the Lord. What happens to my body is of little concern to me. My Will states that I be cremated and scattered in the mountains of my home state, and all attendees have a great celebration of my life.

Regretfully Donna only got part of the answer correct, she is correct in no purgatory and Christs blood does the cleansing. But her scriptural quotation about immediacy is erroneous. She took part of a verse out of context twisting is meaning to suit her own ends. If you read 2nd Corinthians 5:1-10 in context what Paul is saying has nothing to do with what she is implying. When you take scripture out of context it becomes a pretext for false teaching, a blasphemous act.

2co 5:6 Therefore we are always confident, knowing that, whilst we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord:

2co 5:8 We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.

When a child of God dies, his body sleeps in the grave, waiting for the trump to sound; and his spirit and soul leave the earth and go to heaven. We never lose consciousness, we are just freed from our earthly temple and go immediately to be with the Lord.

#3It talks about a Angel who uses Magic. They are many faily tales in these books. It fail some test that In order for a book to be considered inspired of God and included in the canon must pass.I should not go any further. In a nutshell, the Roman Catholic church has never had any biblical support for its teachings such as purgatory, prayers for the dead, etc. The Council of Tent canonized them and that supposedly gave them support for there erroneous teachings. Please Quote from the bible or dont quote at all.
---Ramon on 5/19/06

#2.There were many more early church writers who rejected these books as inspired than accepted. Some of the teachings in these books are colored and some are immoral. In Judith 9:10,13, it says that God,assisted Judith in the telling of lies. Ecclesiasticus and Wisdom teach that morality is based expedience. In other words it is right to sin in some situations.Wisdom 11:17 teaches that God made the universe out of pre-existing matter instead of "ex nihilo" as Genesis 1:1-2, John 1:1-3 etc states.

Cliff. Please stop. You not quoting from the bible, so you quoting something outside of the bible!.That is part of the The Apocryphal books. They are false. They have many errors in it that contradict other books in the bible. Why dont you use something thats in the bible? I think i know why: You cant. Purgatory does not exist and it contradtict so many scriptures!. They teach doctrines which are false and foster practices which are at variance with inspired Scripture.
---Ramon on 5/19/06

Purgatory doesn't exist. No one can pray for someone to get out of hell. Our flesh goes to the grave, but the spirit goes back to God.

cliff, I did not say purgatory exists. I just posted a question. purgatory is a lie. it is apointed unto men once to die then the judgement either you (spirit) go to hell or you go to be with the Lord.Your body goes to the grave.
---eliza4969 on 5/19/06

Cliff, I say this without the slightest repentance, Maccabbes, and all the other books outside of the 66 books in the regular bible, that some claim are part of the bible, are TRASH and in no way authentic! If you're gonna quote from the bible, please quote from the bible.
---Okebaram on 5/19/06

Your body goes to the grave and your spirit goes either to be with the Lord down to? There is no plan for purification after death and there is no location named purgatory purgatory is just a false teaching of the RCC to bleed their people of their money.
---mima on 5/19/06

After the Armeggedon war, all in the first hell are ressurected and given a chance to present their case (the judgement of all the wicked). When their names aren't found in the book of life, they are cast into the permanent hell.(the second death spoken of in revelations). It's all in the bible. There's more, but if you want to know more of what I understand about this topic, you can ask me. And there's no purgatory.

We go to heaven as believers but its a little more complex. Right now believers will go to heaven and unbelievers go to a temporary hell (the first death) infested with fallen angels who torture victims, and hell's fire, etc. After 7 years of tribulation when Jesus retuns He returns with all the saints in heaven (yes, its in the bible) and brings judgement to earth. Eliza:You are right Purgatory exists.Unfortunately many Christians do not believe this I refer you to 2 Machabes 12 v45.ENTRANCE TO PURGATORY IS ESSENTIAL AS PER REVELATION 21: v27 Those who enter Purgatory are assured of Heaven.
---cliff on 5/19/06

#2.The bible said at the moment of Death the person goes to Heaven or Hell. PURGATORY and SOUL-SLEEP are both unbiblical and should be rejected. They are LIES.

Jesus told the thief on the cross, today you will be with me in paradise.
1 Thessalonians 4:13-15 But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him. For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep.
