God required the shedding of blood for the remission of sins. This was a type of the work Christ did on the Cross. Each year the the high priest would go in and make atonement for the peoples sins. The sins weren't actually forgiven, they were rolled ahead every year and then placed on Jesus at the Cross. It was at the Cross that all the sins of the World were forgiven.

sacfifices are a tool to make you humble.they demonstrate love.christ said he who be the greatest must be a servant to all.when you sacrifice your will or desires for others it helps you draw closer to god and demonstrates to others your willingness to submit to the will and word whuich helps you other words it axctually helps you more than the one being served.

Mima, the sacrifice of jesus on the cross makes you holy. You are made righteous and holy in the eyes of God because you are covered by the blood of jesus christ.Thers nothing you can do that will ever do that makes you holy nothing.A free gift form God lest any man should boast. If it were so people wouldn, talk about or thank God ,they would be continually praising their own good deeds.Much like the pharisee did.

sacrifice might be better explained as an thought of the mind while engaged in the bookeeping of the flesh. anything you do as a christian is service to God and his kingdom. any other action that you may define as a sacrifice is of no use to you unless it involves a personal nature to refine your walk with God.God said in his word I don,t desire sacrifices.sounds to me like you should remove the word from your thinking, it almost always allows the flesh to rear up.

sacrifices, love of God, enables us as christians who truly believe in the work of the cross of our lord.As a christian you might be better off not thinking of your sacrifices, but consider all you do as service to Gods kingdom. Gods word tells us nothing we do makes us holy, IT is a gift of grace from God that we are justified thru the blood of our lord jesus, not by works lest any man should boast. Nothing you do is a sacrifice, it might be in your mind. What it is is service, to the holy one GOD.

Mima, the best the OT sacrifices could do was to point to the One Sacrifice that did away with them all.

To address this question, no and no, never has never will. (Ps. 51:16,17) "For thou (The Lord) desirest not sacrifice; else would I give it: thou delightest not in burnt offerings. The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: and a broken and contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise"

Linda, birth of the Spirit is the front door but once inside we need to do other things.

Read the eight Beatitudes and the various sermons of Christ.

Again you must know the word of God that is infallible and as shard as a two edge sword. Look up Acts 13:39 your only way to get to heaven as promised by His holy word. Claim it today.

Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ. 1 Peter 2:5

Our problem is that we define "holy" by what we have or have not done. God defines holy by birth of the Spirit.

Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering; Col.3:12

Wherefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our profession, Christ Jesus;

But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation; Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy. 1 Peter 1:15,16

My Bible says that we are a holy nation. 1 Peter 2:9

It also says that if the firstfruit (Jesus) be holy, the lump is holy: and if the root be holy, so is the branches. Romans 11:6 He is the vine, we are the branches.

Romans 12:2 says to present our bodies a living sacrifice, holy......

1 Cor.3:17 For the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are.

2.) As for the question, Jesus' death was a sacrifice, and it made us holy. I dislike the word "appease" in relation to God. God isn't one of those pagan gods that is angry at us and will be appeased if we bribe him with a sacrifice. That is why he judges sacrifice by the heart of the giver rather than the actual value or quantity of what is given.

Tom, I understand your point, but Jesus' blood makes us holy. Not by our own merit, sure. What you should say is that there is none as holy as the Lord, like the bible says, not that it is always wrong to call something else holy.
---Okebaram on 5/23/06

No and yes under the Old Testament.
---Sally on 5/23/06

only god is holy, you are justified by grace through the blood of jesus, and can be righteous, but the bible doesn,t call anyone holy except god,his son, and the holy spirit, everyone else is a sinner, reconciled to god through jesus

I flailed To make clear that my question was about the old Jewish sacrificial system. Our sacrifice as concerns sin was Jesus Christ Himself of course. And our sacrifice of worship(as mentioned by the moderator) is a sacrifice of praise of course.

Mima, I realize that 50 word limits can be difficult to work with, but can you elaborate your question? I don't quite understand what you're getting at.
