Is it because it has That Word "idol" in the name of the program? It's clear that "idol" is not used in any kind of spiritual or religious sense.

Like I told some of our youth group once when a conflict arose about it, there's nothing wrong with watching it, as long as you don't put it before God- that's what the conflict was about. Some of them missed an important church drama team rehearsal to go see Kelly Clarkson in concert at her old high school here in Burleson TX. Those 3 kids attended the same school and lived in Burleson. They tried to tell me that the school made attendance at the concert MANDATORY- yeah, uh huh, RIGHT!

We are also here to enjoy life and If we were all so perfect we would not need to be tried as Gold, watching a programme depends on the contents, we buy our food from the ungodly, rent from the ungodly, pay our licence to the ungodly, purchase or clothes from the ungodly so watching a programme that is not too ungodly and makes you laugh a little ungodly can't be that............... ungodly :)

Eliza, I knew Taylor would win, but both were so talented!
Its a little sharp at times, but I never miss "House!" Now the re runs start! We won't know until Sept. how the gunshots affected House! Hugh Lauri is a trip! Even using his 'American accent', his British humor is evident.

I wanted Katherine to win! :-< and oh yeah I watch House too!

I watched a bit of it at the end last night to see the young man with the versatile voice win. He closed the show with a Christian song that I'd heard by Bob Carlisle.
The pathetic part to me is that MANY more people called into this show to vote for their favorite than voted in the last election!

Non-religious entertainment is completely alright as long as it does not feature stuff that can corrupt your mind. i think most of the previous responses said it all; there's nothing wrong with watching American Idol.

I've never seen any nudity OR heard any cussing on American Idol, have you guys? Some of the music may not be music I would choose to listen too on a daily basis, but A.I. is not now, nor has it ever claimed, to be a Christian show- so what, do you expect them to all dress in suits and longsleeved shin length dresses, stand perfectly still, and sing hymns?!?! I've seen "christian" artists dress, move, and act WAAAAAY more risque than some of the A.I. contestants

Paul said all things are permissable, but not all things are profitable. Profitable unto our spirits. We must feed our spirit man DAILY, but we can watch a clean show, with no nudity, no cussing like AM. IDOL. I question shows like: The Ghost Whisperer which I've NEVER seen and the shows that show you can talk to the dead, now THOSE shows are demonic.

Most 'entertainment' is Godless, but it may not be harmful. Watching and listening to people sing isn't sinful. It surely beats watching the bloody cop shows!
I don't watch either, but I like L&O CI and Monk. Nothing too grisly on either of those.

How would it be godless entertainment? It is good, clean fun. The kids are talented, the songs are clean, the wardrobes are decent. Where do you get the idea it is godless?

Being a Christian does not preclude enjoying things of the world, as long as they do not come before God. Of course, each individual will need to exercise discretion to ensure that their faith is not compromised.
