A Christian can be any thing he wants, but that's not always what's best for him/her.

Who did Rahab Hide?

A solid life in the spirit confounds the plans of men anyway.
God pours out his Spirit for the asking find out who you are in that.

Matthew 7:21-22 the assurance of his Kingdom is worth 10,000 careers.

The real Question is, Can I myself be a spy and a Christian.

Answer...MAYBE if you are a strong Christian first.

I think this can be carried to extremes.

Interesting idea, Jack. In scripture,God's people were spies, judges, shepherds, soldiers, civil servants, merchants, housewives, bricklayers, and kings. Where are you gettng your ideas?

The Scripture that comes to my mind is 1 Thessalonians 4:11 "that you also aspire to lead a quiet life, to mind your own business ...". Can't mind your own business if you are spying on someone else. We are commanded to love others, so I do not think it appropriate for a Christian to be a spy.

This question makes me think of how a spy must break many of the Ten Commandments in order to do his job.

There was a time when it was considered totally sinful for Christians to exercise ANY civil office at all.

Did you know that?

The duties attending civil office frequently required doing things that were against the Gospel. To have fulfilled them was equivalent to apostasy.

Tertullian opined it was impossible for the Emperor or soldiers to be Christian--though we know there were plenty of martyrs among the latter.

Well there were 12 spies in the Old Testament, but they didn't work for the CIA, they worked for a Higher Power. I don't see anything wrong with it, as long as this career or this path doesn't interfere with their walk with God.

Alang there are so many Mormons, devout Catholics, and fundamentalist Christians in the CIA that in DC the CIA is often believed to stand for Christians In Action. Part of my job in law enforcement is liaison with intelligence agencies and I have found many devout of all faiths involved in intelligence work. Bless you in your journey.
