You'll never be good enough. That's the whole point. Christ had to die cause we'll never be good enough. It's not about being good enough. It's about accepting His free gift. If we were good enough, we wouldn't need Christ.
---Paul on 8/24/08

The most helpless feeling in this world is a deep desire to see a lost soul saved, but knowing that I can not save anyone, that only Jesus can. I sit there and it is almost as if I have been stripped naked.. Such helplessness that comes upon me. Same goes for you, my friend. There is nothing that you can do?
---catherine on 6/28/08

This is a repost. It did not make it yesterday, for some or another reason.
I am actually in agreement with your fist statement as with the clarification you made to me. I apologize for using part of your statement to make a point.
---Nana on 6/28/08

Nana the topic is about someone who wants to become a Christian. Therefore what I wrote 'You don't have to be He is Good enough for all of us!' Is for the non-Christian who thinks they have to be good enough to be saved.

I hope that makes my meaning clear.

Once I was ask to witness to a 58-year-old man. I did so. He said, I realize you've come a long way, but the answer is no I'm not interested. His reasoning was that he did not believe he could be good enough. I have wonderful news for you, I said, you don't have to be good enough. Jesus has already been good enough for you. And you get his righteousness when you receive him.
The man began to cry, his wife later told me she had never seen him cry before, he prayed a sinner's prayer, and today he is one of the staunchest Christians in a little church(about 35 members).
---Mima on 6/26/08

"You don't have to be" I would change to 'You don't have to have been'. From then on you have to be.
---Nana on 6/25/08

If anyone feels they are good enough to become a Christian I believe they never will become one. it is only when we admit that we are lost in sin, out of control, that we understand we need help. Then and only then can we cry out to the Lord for forgiveness and then and only then will He give it.

Not good enough to be a Christian. You don't have to be He is Good enough for all of us!
---Warwick on 6/25/08

What you should do is simply give your life to the Lord Jesus Christ. Do you know that you are just like all of the rest of us. Not one of God's children was able to make themsleves good enough to be called a child of God, but Praise God, God already knew that and made provision for you and for me. He knew He would have to do the work so that you could come as you are. The work of making you and I good enough is not our responsibility. Christ has taken on that responsibility once you are born again. He does not want you to do a thing but come as you are. He loves you and please don't hesitate any longer.
---Debbie_Jo on 6/23/08

and Robin...Just say Yes and accept Jesus as your personal savior. He is the only way that you can overcome the guilt of feeling like a hypocrite.
---Amy on 6/23/08

Robin, Not even one Christian is good enough to become a Christian. We are all saved by Jesus' love for us. Jesus was perfect. We're all saved by GRACE. We all grow & change from worms to butterflies as we become more like the person God made us to be. We all sin... some people's sins are just harder to see.
We all have secret sins. Sometimes God takes the desires to do them away miraculously, other times He takes them away over time. The prayer room is a good place to talk about this in real time
---Amy9384 on 8/11/07

Jesus wants you to come just as you are, sin, baggage, and everything. He will take care of the changing and cleaning you up.
---Leslie on 12/31/06

Ps 14:3 They are all gone aside, they are all together become filthy: there is none that doeth good, no, not one.

Ro 3:10 As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:
11 . . . there is none that seeketh after God.
12 . . . there is none that doeth good, no, not one.

23 For all have sinned . . .

Welcome. Now let Jesus cleanse you and love you.

2) Simply believe, accept Jesus' payment for your sin, and you are forgiven. Not only that, Jesus rose again, giving us new life, a life of resurrection power, by the working of the Holy Spirit. What a wonderful God we have and serve. Goodness will follow as a fruit of the saving work God does in you. Look to Him, set your eyes above, and may God bless you mightily!!!!
---christina on 6/20/06

1)A first step in becoming christian is recognizing we are not good enough, nor can we be, we are truly sinful. Therefore we NEED a savior, cannot save ourselves. God, being Holy, can have no part of sin, yet loves us and desires to be with us. In fact, we are His greatest desire...He is truly LOVE. So God made a way, and that way is Jesus. Jesus took our every sin and all were nailed to the cross with Him and put to death.
---christina on 6/20/06

emg, Your hung up on the word GOOD. Did God call you or was it Satan. You people triffle with the word GOOD. Jesus said only GOD is GOOD. Are you satisfied? If your not a good christian then you must be a bad christian. This is my last answer on this subject. Have a nice day.
---Thomas_D. on 6/19/06

Thomas D on 6/17 you said "Rev. Herb, You said none are good enough to be christian. Your wrong." How else can any of us interpret that statement other than that you think that SOME are good enough? Could you please explain what you mean?

Praise God!

What a moment of clarity, and that's the call of the Holy Spirit sent by the Father to draw your heart to him and bless you as his own...

Matthew 5:3 Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
---Pharisee on 6/18/06

M.P., I never said you were saved by your own goodness.
---Thomas_D. on 6/18/06

Robin we are all sinners. God loves you just the way you are. When you accept Jesus Christ, and allow him to work in your life, he will change you, and if you ask for forgiveness, God will forgive and forget your past. He will only see the blood of Jesus over your sins!
---wes on 6/18/06

Robin, If you truly desire to become a christian, fall on your knees and thank God for His unspeakable gift, because He is already at work in your heart. That is why you have this desire in the first place, God put it there. Just "come as you are," God will take care of everything else. Praise God!

Thomas D it is not our own goodness that saves us but the goodness of God. We are sinners before we are saved (not good) and we will sin again after we are saved (not good) but God forgives if we truly repent. Christ's sacrifice for us JUSTIFIED us so that it is 'just as if we had never sinned'. If anyone waits until THEY are good enough they will wait for ever. Herb said it really well.
---M.P. on 6/18/06

Amy, I didn't say on one's own merit he is worthy to be a christian. All are born under sin. Disapprove of the statement. Who is worthy to be a christia, all who are born again. Were you born again?
---Thomas_D. on 6/17/06

I hope that Thomas D. will accept this from me. I must respectfully say that the Reverend Herb and nearly every other person on this blog agree that not even one person is or will be good enough in ourselves to be SAVED...or become a Christian. That is why Jesus died. His blood covers our ugly sins. Only Jesus is able to bridge the gap. We cannot BE good enough...and Rev Herb said it correctly. With the Love of Jesus in my heart...Amy
---amy on 6/17/06

Rev. Herb, You said none are good enough to be christian. Your wrong. Christians do sometimes commit sin and they can repent. I find your statement spoken without thought.

Here is some scriptures to help you. Romans 3:23, for ALL have sinned. Romans 6:23, Wages of sin is death, there is also a gift. Ephesians 2:8-9, For by Grace you are saved, THROUGH FAITH. 1Corinthians 15:1-4, Christ died FOR our sins. Romans 5:8 Believe on him.
Paul later states he is the least of all saints, which would mean you are not worse than he was. Try reading through Romans.

We just returned from church camp, and there was a little boy there who cried every night after the evening service because he didn't feel he could be saved because he didn't know if he could be good. Jesus calls us to come just as we are. He receives whosoever will and He does not require that you clean yourself up before you come to Him. Once you have given your life to Christ, youu become His responsibility and he will clean you up and do the work need to change your life.
---Debbie on 6/17/06

I shared your question with a friend of mine, and he said we become Christians not because we are good, but because God loves us.
---Jack on 6/17/06

Robin the very fact that you say you are not good enough shows that you accept that you do things that are wrong. You are half way there because of this. The stumbling block to most people becoming Christians is that they do not like the word sin and do not accept that they have sinned. They cannot repent of something they do not accept they have done. You, however, accept that you have done wrong so you can go to God and ask for His forgiveness. If you sincerely ask He will forgive you.

You will never be good enough to be a Christian. The only difference between a Christian and a sinner is the Blood of Christ. I am a sinner saved by grace. All you have to do is ask Jesus into your heart and ask Him to forgive you and repent (turn from your sins) Will you sin after that? propably but you will be convicted of it and not want to do it. Ask forgiveness and go on.
---Rev_Herb on 6/17/06

Robin, NONE of us are Christians because we are "good enough." It's for the opposite reason: because we know we are NOT good and cannot help ourselves.

There's a saying: The church is not a resort for saints, but a hospital for sinners.

This is a paraphrase of the words of Jesus: "The healthy do not need the Physician, but the sick."

Come to Jesus just as you are. He'll take care of the rest.
---Jack on 6/17/06

Robin a hypocrite is someone who pretends to be something they are not. When you accept salvation ( the method of accepting is found in Rom. 10:8-10) you are a christian. The 11th verse reads "For the scriptures saith, Whosoever believeth (relies on, trust in and depends upon) Him (Jesus) shall not be ashamed". That's Gods word. Accept it and Him. Welcome to the family my sister!
---josef on 6/17/06

Robin your desire shows that the Spirit of the Father is prompting you to except His gift. You obviously have heart of repentance. Yield to that prompting by His grace and faith that also has been offer you as a gift. We are saved by those gifts, and you could do nothing to earn them. Salvation is not based on our righteousness, if it were non of us would be worthy. Jesus did not come to call the self righteous, He came to call the sinner to repentance. For that I for one am truly grateful.

Robin, NONE of us would be Christians if that's what it took. That's the beauty of God's grace- he forgives us even if we can't immediately forgive ourselves. But let me remind you to read Matt 6:14,15 - He means forgiving EVERYONE, including you. Whatever it is, let it go. God's grace is sufficient :)
---T.S. on 6/17/06

Robin, many christians are hyprocrites.jesus said first remove the log from your your own eye, then you will see better to help your brother remove the speck from his eye.
---tom2 on 6/16/06

The good news is, nobody is good enough to become a Christian. Christ died for us while we were yet sinners. The good news is, we just have to pray and accept His death as the substitute punishment for our sins. After we accept Christ, the Holy Spirit enters us, and He begins to make us into His image.

To try to become good enough to be a Christian is like washing yourself to get ready for a bath.

Hope this makes sense.
---Madison1101 on 6/16/06

Robin, none of us are good enough.salvation is a gift of grace.Grace by definition is un waranted or a undeserved gift.repent, believe in jesus, who he was why he came that God raised him from the dead and bingo you get the free are covered by what jesus can do nothing except believe.God free gift through jesus covers you.

Robin, nobody will ever be good enough to become a Christian. We are all sinners and we all get saved in that condition. Nothing any one of us does can make us better.... only Jesus can do that after we receive Him as our Lord and Saviour.
---Helen_5378 on 6/16/06

Become a christian. The bible says that God will take out your stony heart & give you a new heart. 2Corinthians 5:17 says, " Therefore if any man be in Christ he is a new creature; old things are passed away, behold all things are become new." Just except Jesus by faith, submit to Him, & He will work in you to help you walk as a christian.
