A "white lie" is a worldly phrase that I am sure many of us have heard, but there is no such thing. a lie is a lie and just as a sin is a sin we as christians should not take a lie or a sin lightly. We are serving a Holy and just God and I am sure that He does not take it lightly when we choose to lie which is a sin against our Holy God.

I've noticed that most Christians think their own sins are minor unimportant failings, but those of other people mean they are not Christians.

There is no such thing as a "white lie". It was made up by people who love telling lies. A lie is a lie. If a small, supposedly harmless, lie is a white lie, then what is a full blown lie? A "black lie"?

" If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven,
Whose people? MY PEOPLE-----
What kind of ways? (WICKED)----this might be talking about the condition of God's people. What do you think?

No true Christian can possiblly believe that white lies are acceptable. I will tell you the truth. I was never much of a liar when I was lost [Face an open book] And now that I have been saved, well I am sure you get it. "God saids in His word, I hate liars"

All Christians know that all lies, even white lies, are not acceptable. But still we lie because we are liars. That being said we should take advantage of the escape valve provided by Almighty God in the sacrificing of his son for our sins. Another words asked for forgiveness.

Madison, I'm rather late answering you as I'd forgotten all about this question. I don't wish to offend but I'm curious as to what message you have on your voicemail. If it's typical of many it will be something like "I'm sorry I'm not here to take your call but if you leave your name and number I'll get back to you." If you do not get back to them because they are people you do not wish to speak to then you lied in your message. Of course some just say "Please try later."

all liars will have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone Rev. 21:8

This line in my last post should read:

"if you can not say something completely truthfully say nothing at all."

Just thought I should straighten that up:)

I have no idea what most christian think. However I have been greatly convicted by every deception I have ever been involved in. I don't have any idea what a "white lie" is. The instructions given me are, if you can say something completely truthfully say nothing at all. Donna I agree with Dotti. Words of compassion and faith simply call those things which are not as though they were based on the promises of the Father which are always yes and Amen.

"Christian" defined is not "perfect" just forgiven. It's not okay to lie, speed, steal, deceive, etc. But why is it always Christians who are expected to be perfect? We try to do God's will. Want to do what's right. But fail, fail, fail. That makes God God and us forgiven sinners. Paul said he "dies daily" because of the fleshly nature. I only wish we could do as well as he. Lets not beat ourselves up too badly, just try a little harder. "Work in progress."

Donna2277, telling a child that everything is going to be alright, is having Faith. Telling an old woman that her husband can't come to the party is true, and telling a young woman that she needs to try is what you should do, because doctors are not God, and are not always right. Jesus is the Great Physician. You give hope, and that is trusting in God.
---Dottie on 6/20/06

Christians do it because we are ALL born in with a sinful nature. Ever notice how young a child is when they first deny making that mess? It's shocking because you know they have not been exposed to such actions, but yet it's still comes from them out of no where!
---Fred_S. on 6/20/06

In most situations I try to avoid white lies..even if I have to be evasive. But I have told a child that everything will be OK, when I'm not sure it will. I've told a senile old woman that her husband couldn't come to the party because she forgets he's dead and cries whenever she's told. I've told a young woman whose been told her paralysis is permanent to keep on trying...I haven't always told the whole truth but sometimes the "truth" is not so important that it MUST be told.

Always from poor discernment in the moment, the same thing bring about false prophets, the opposite thing in Jesus Christ is what proves him God.

If you have the mind of Christ the spirit teaches all things as you need them. 1 John 2:27
Mind not the things of the Spirit and the fleshly urge overtakes you.
Quite simple; a matter of faith.
Sin destroys faith and faith can be defined as a state in which you not only believe God watches as he does, but he is in you as he is. Gaurd your faith!

Madison: NOthing wrong with that.

You had the telephone installed for YOUR convenience, not so others could invade your privacy.

f.f.: I have caller ID. If I don't want to talk to someone, I don't answer. I let it go to my voicemail.

I remember reading Corrie Ten Boom's book, The Hiding place. She tells how her family hid Jews in their home to protect them from arrest and internment by the Gastapo in WWII. Corrie's younger sister agonized over whether she should tell the truth when the Gastapo came to their door or lie, which would be against her Christian beliefs. What would you do?
---Donna2277 on 6/19/06

How many Christians have NEVER answered the 'phone, or door, and told the caller that the person they wanted wasn't home (because you knew they would not want to take the call)? How many have NEVER said someone or something will be alright when you know full well that they/it will not be alright? How many have NEVER said someone's outfit suited them when you know they don't look good in it? etc. Congratulations to those who have NEVER told a 'white' lie.

Better not to open your mouth at all. Let your yes be yes and your no be no.

For the same reason anybody tells a lie, because sometimes the truth hurts.
---barbara on 6/19/06

and what is a "white lie"?
---pkay on 6/19/06

I guess everyone tells white lies. I do. Just yesterday a lady at church ask me if I liked her new hair style and I told her it was nice and looked good on her.
---shira on 6/19/06

There is no such thing as a "white lie"... if so what colour is a "real" lie. A lie is a lie is a lie period. The "white lie" thing is very very appealing to those who really do believe that there is no harm at all in telling lies and they tell lies left right and center and think nothing of it -- that is my experience with the "white lies". Lies hurt others no matter how big or small.
