Jesus Rise In 2 Or 3 Days

How can Yeshua (Jesus) have died on good friday and rose on sunday (that's one day and 2 nights) if--"as Jonah was three days and three nights in the whales belly, so shall the Son of man also be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth."

Thanks guys, I had always wondered this too and just figured God would explain it to me in heaven someday. Now I get the answer faster!

Part 2:

Thus, Tracy, you see Our Lord hurried up time to save us sooner.
---Jack on 11/2/07

Genesis; "there was evening and there was morning, the first day"
Days were from 6PM to 6PM - sunset to sunset
Ancients counted any part of the day
as a whole. Jesus died at 3PM on Thursday
Thu (D), Fri (N/D), Sat (N/D), Sun (N)
3 days / 3 nights.
This scenario fills all the requirements of triumphant entry on Sun 10 Nisan, Crucifiction on Passover (14 Nisan), High Sabbath 15 Nisan (Fri), weekly Sabbath (Sat)and First Fruits (resurrection) Sun Nisan 16.

Notice the order "three days and three night" (contrasted with Genesis 1 and elsewhere).

Burials among first century Jews didn't take place "in the heart of the earth" but in rock tombs.

From Friday to the Three Hours of darkness: a day and a night. From Friday afternoon to nightfall: a day and a night. From Saturday sunrise to wee hours of Sunday: A day and a night.

"Heart of the earth" refers to His descent into Sheol.

This would have started sometime as He entered or was in the garden on Thursday evening after the supper, and continued till He ascended to the Father sometime on Sunday before coming back to let the disciples touch Him on Sunday sometime. I have not heard a better thought and this includes three days and three nights.

It is plain from scripture that He rose the third day--Matthew 16:21,17:23, Luke 9:22, 24:46,Acts 10:40, etc. That Sunday was the "third day" is proved by the two disciples saying to Jesus on Sunday afternoon, this is the third day--Luke 24:31. Maybe we need to better understand the term, heart of the earth. Some have thought it refers to the time He was separated from the Father because He was made to be sin.

Tracy, in my last post I stated that the day started and ended with the sun, I just forgot or missed writing sundown.
---tom2 on 7/4/06

tom2 I believe I would have to disagree with you on how they kept track of days. From my research and from many others that I've studied this with, a day was kept from sundown to the following sundown. I would like to know where you heard your way that they kept days. I would be interested to read that.

Notlaw, I think I'm in agreement with you. That is what I have read and this past passover was supposed to coincide with the original crucifixtion since it was on Wednesday.

What ever your decision in this matter; if you think you would on Friday maybe you should take another look.

Tracy,in ancient Israel a day started and ended with the sun.jesus was laid in the tomb during the day on friday. that was day 1.sunrise on saturday was day 2. sunrise on sunday was day 3
---tom2 on 7/3/06

A Wednesday Crucifixion is the only one that works right. Jesus crucified the afternoon prior to Passover (Special Sabbath) starting a sundown, Next period secular (Thursday night - Friday day light) market are open the women can buy spices to anoint the body. Friday evening start of normal Sabbath. Resurrection Saturday evening prior to end of Sabbath. Resurrection not discovered until Sunday morning and people made foolish assumptions that it just happned that morning.

jesus died and was placed in the tomb during daylight hours on friday.this is in scripture thats day 1,saturday daylight hours was day 2,sunrise sunday morning was day 3 thats how the ancient jews keep days.
---tom2 on 7/3/06

a new day started at 6pm and ended at 6am
---tom2 on 7/3/06

I think Jesus must have died on the Thursday for Him to have spent 3 days and nights in the grave. This has always fascinated me and I wonder why Christians just blindly seem to believe that it was good friday that Jesus died and no-one seems to question it.

Jack, no offense since I aprreciate all responses, but that sounds more like talmudic type sorcery.

in ancient jewish times a day was 12 hours long and a night 12 hours long.each daylight period was a day, and each night or dark period was a day.

I can see how someone can stretch it to possibly mean 3 days but to make 3 nights out of a Frday afternoon crucifiction is something I can't take in. What is the world is wrong with just believing He died on Thrsday? That would straighten everything out. Exept we wouldnt agree with our calendar but that doesn't matter.

He died on Thursday and rose on Sunday morning.
