Can Liberals Be Christians

My friend was saying Susan isn't a Christian because she is liberal in her thinking and doesn't believe all of the Bible. Can someone believe parts of the Bible are a myth and still be considered a Christian?

I agree with Helen...I dont see how not believing all of the Bible is compatible with true Christianity. If you pick and choose what parts of the Bible you want to obey (and I think that's really what it comes down to), your whole theology becomes so subjective...and you get into situational ethics and whatnot, instead of having a clear idea of right and wrong. I'll follow a "Thus saith the Lord" over a "Well I think it means..." anyday.

Mima when a person refers to someone being a Biblical liberal they are referring to a person who does not believe that the Bible is historical truth. They may believe that there is some historical truth contained therein. Many liberals do not believe in the historical death and resurrection of Jesus.

Therefore a Biblically liberal person, by definition isn't Chrisian, as they deny the truth of what Jesus The Truth said.

Anyone can be a Christian if they repent and convert and beleive every word of the Lord Jesus Christ who is the only way the only truth the only way to life and Heaven!
The Bible is the word of God. He is the truth.
Therefore believe in the truth, His words, the Bible!

I do not see how someone who calls themselves a Christian can say that any of God's word is a myth. The whole of God's Word is true, and if you really know God you will know that all of His Word is true.

Mackey:: In all fairness In order to get the real Truth only a genuine christian can answer this I am Rc so I dont count.Good question.

One definition of a liberal person would be someone who gives of themselves. Under that definition The Lord Jesus Christ was the most liberal person who ever lived and is alive today of course!!! Another example of a liberal person would be the good Samaritan!!!!! In my life I have made an overt effort to be liberal towards my fellow man, and I have often flailed, but I have never given up my liberal attitude.

May I PLEASE ask Pres. Bill or do these old blogs keep getting dredged up?
Fewer of the new blogs are getting responses!

what is a myth, it is stories that culture uses to perpetuate a belief system. (the bible is myth by definition) yes a liberal can be a christian, if they believe in Jesus as lord and savior. we can learn alot from liberal christians, like christians should make a positive impact in the world today. But we need to remember that just because we can't explain everything doesn't mean it is untrue. which Liberal christians can learn from conservitives.

I would consider myself liberal both in my religious beliefs and my political beliefs. I don't believe that exempts me from being a Christian. I am very devoted to my faith and lean on it everyday

Mackey you are saying that Susan has a liberal in faith (not politically) because she does not believe all the Bible? I have not heard that before. Those who believe parts of the Bible are a myth are deceived at best. They believe a lie. The Word of God is what Christians base their faith on. Our faith in God and his Word influences our values. Our values influence our political views and allot of our other views. Just my opinnion.

Have you ask Susan if she believes in Jesus and her Saviour?

I was going to say, Ducks, but didn't. They would have though I was you brother John. explanation again, just humor
---karen on 7/6/06

Karen, I was mmmm..... semi-serious? It is no secret that most people on this site are conservatives. The non-conservatives on this site are constantly demeaned and our beliefs are belittled, but, as I said, I know where I stand. I see this one as another bash the liberals/conservative blogs. But the, Ive never backed down from a good "debate".

and yes, I do believe that Conservatives can be Christians. :) Well, most of you anyway.
---NurseRobert on 7/6/06

No brother John, I was only answering in the way he wrote it. Just humor brother. To many here are so serious and just breaking some ice. No one is going to change how they feel about this country and our believes, only God can do a little cleaning up. or maybe a whole lot of cleaning. Next time I will put humor next to my statement.
---karen on 7/6/06

It was a touch of humor Nurseroberts, since you also put it down as humor, didn't you? Are were you really serious? I was not serious but answered you to respond to your humor. I know your stand and Madisons, it is not a secret.

Karen: "if they are saved, they are Christians. If they are not, they are liberals"

Are you saying that we will see Rush in heaven? Do you think he will need his Viagra there? :-P

Touche' Karen...
I think that the title of this thread is another attempt to start ANOTHER political fight.

As daphne said, there is one or two (I think Madison and me) are politically liberal on this site. I have no doubt about my stand with God and I have no doubt that Madison is a Christian.
---NurseRobert on 7/6/06

Everyone is conservative in some ways and liberal in others.

And what is liberal and what is conservative depends a lot upon how you draw your charts and define your terms.

But if one tries to confuse Christianity with conservative (or any other) politics, remember that Jesus said, "My Kingdom is NOT of this world."
---Jack on 7/5/06

Yes Nurseroberts, if they are saved, they are Christians. If they are not, they are liberals
---karen on 7/5/06

Yes, a politically liberal person can be a christian. We have a couple on this site. While I strongly disagree with their views politically, I don't doubt they love the Lord. As always, we must remove, or at least be in the process of removing, the beam from our own eye before going after the splinter in another's. I think it is good for "conservatives" and "liberals" alike to challenge one another, lest either become selfrighteous.

Even myth frequently reveals truth in figures, allegories, and parables.

I would introduce Susan to Jesus and let Him take care of the rest of it.
---Jack on 7/5/06

Actually I just thought - Liberalism that you are talking about is a false teaching. You can't just do that with God's Word...if you take some of it and reject it, then what on earth are you left with -- certainly not the truth.
