narrow is the path that leads to heaven and life, and WIDE is the road that leads to death and my mind I see someone just moseying along on the narrow path, and people crowded in pushing each other down the wide path because they are so tightly packed together.

few means few.not as many as you think.Consider the parable of the sheep and goats. the goats thought they were doing the work of our lord . but in that day jesus tells them depart from me ye workers of iniquity I never knew you.many are gonna hear those words.

It saddens me to see so many people (some of whom posted comments here) lack a fundamental understanding of GRACE. The belief that obedience equates salvation makes a mockery of Jesus' sacrifice on the cross. Try as I might to do what's right, I stumble and fall. Daily. Why? Because I'm human. It is my weakness as a human that causes me to thank God every day for the GIFT of salvation, which I am assured to have through FAITH in Jesus Christ.

jana, Amen! You got it! Only a few, the ones who are Following God's Commandments.

Please go read Revelation 7:9
I know we are part of that multitude that no man can number, of all nations, kindreds, people and tongues.

Sue; there is not a better christian than you, and vice versa. We are all equal in God's eyes. You have asked for forgiveness, then you are forgiven. Satan has a hayday when we think about given up. He feeds off of our doubts, fears. When you asked God to come into your heart, you are one of his, part of the "chosen few". There are people out there that has played around with God too long and now when they cry out to him, God has a deaf ear toward them. You are not like that.
---Rebecca_D on 7/14/06

Thank you so much for all the replies. It's just that there are SO MANY better Christains than me, it seems like I don't have a chance at being one of the 'chosen few' to go to heaven. But thank you, the replies touched my heart deeply, made me cry. Linda, I will try to email you.

One gate wide and one narrow..more will go thru the wide gate and very few thru the narrow gate which is the door to heaven...make sure you go thru the narrow obeying everything God commands us to do...

#2 Trust Me, and I will strengthen you, I will enable you to resist temptation, and if you fail, I will forgive you because I am love, and I am grace, and I am your Savior, your Lord and your Friend.
Sue never give up, because the enemy you are fighting is already defeated.
---Debbie on 7/10/06

#1 Sue, God loves you, and His grace is all sufficient. He knew when you came to Him you would have struggles with sin. We all have times of weakness and lose battles with temptation. Jesus knows that. Satan would have you give up and think that you can't live for Christ. Christ says , "Yes you can, because it is Me that is doing the living." He says, I know you can't win these battles on your own, but I can.
---Debbie on 7/10/06

Guess I didn't make myself too clear in my first comment. I believe if you are saved by the blood of Jesus, saved by grace through may misunderstand some things, perhaps believe some things that aren't true, or not believe some things that are true, but if you are a born again child of God you will make Heaven. That's not to say doctrines are not important, just that most of them don't determine whether or not you go to Heaven.
---Donna2277 on 7/10/06

Sue- Nobody is doomed by "sinning too much". You are only doomed if you turn your back on Jesus. You haven't done that! If you prayed for forgiveness, believing that Jesus has already paid the penalty for your sins, then you ARE forgiven. Maybe you don't FEEL that much different, maybe you don't feel any stronger in resisting sin. But Jesus says, "...Him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out" Jn 6:37. He will NEVER leave you nor push you aside. Count on it.
---Donna2277 on 7/10/06

Mima; I was meaning that just because a person got saved umteen yeas ago, that doesn't mean they are walking the straight and narrow path today. alot has backslide and walking on a crooked road, and won't make it to heaven.
---Rebecca_D on 7/10/06

Sister Sue, Jesus was delivered over to death for our sins, and was raised to life for our justification.(Romans 4, v25)
God does not want any of us to be apart from Him. That is why Christ Jesus bore our burdens. Our part is to accept Him and the atonement He made on our behalf. declare your faith in Jesus, and place yourself at the foot of His cross. And rejoice that Christ made this possible for each and every one of us, who seek His salvation.
---Margaretj on 7/10/06

My dear Sister Sue, Romans 3 vs23 and 24. For all have sinned, and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.
None of us is perfect. If we were, there would have been no need for Christ Jesus' sacrifice of atonement. Believe on Him dear sister, believe. I am praying for you.

Sue - Please do not give up. Jesus loves you and He died on the Cross for you. I have been in your shoes many many times. It took a long time for me to understand, but the devil wants you to give up. I find it very helpful to say out loud "Father in Jesus' name I trust you...". Please keep posting.
---Helen_5378 on 7/10/06

Sue, I wish you would contact me through my pen pal id. My heart breaks for you because I know what you are going through. How much I understand where you are. I can not only personally share with you but also direct you to a website that will clear up your questions quite effectively. Would you please contact me. I care so much for you and hear the hurt of your heart.
---Linda6563 on 7/10/06

Sue, if it was about what you do, then Jesus died in vain. Our performance could never pay the debt He paid. We are called to believe in the person and work of Christ and He who has begun a good work in you will complete it till the day of Christ. When you sin, you have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the Righteous. There is a reason He is called the Righteous there. It is because He is your righteousness before the Father. Trust Him over what man says or what your unrenewed mind thinks.

The meaning of "strait" when the KJV was translated was not the modern Straightt, but narrow, confining or limited.
For what it is worth, those meanings come from the Oxford English Dictionary.
This is a case where the continued use of the old word is confusing, and a modern translation used in conjunction wtih KJV can be useful

"strait" and "narrow" means you must do the will of God. Too many Christians are doing what they want to do and doing it in the name of the Lord. Jesus said "many will say to me on that day, didn't we prophesy in your name, etc., and He will say to them, I never knew you. I believe the "straight" and "narrow" is dying to self, and doing the WILL of God. When we find that path, we walk by the Spirit, with Jesus, in love and filled with His peace and Joy, amen?
---Donna9759 on 7/10/06

You just gave satan the victory he was fighting for with that statement. That's exactly what he wants you to believe. Do not curse yourself with your own words. It is a struggle for ALL of us. Hence the term "baby Christian". We learn & grow slowly thru God's Word. Like a baby learning to walk. We fall down, we get back up and try again. Living a Godly life is a learning process. If all the revelation came at once, it would be too overwhelming for us to comprehend.
---Fred_S. on 7/10/06

I hate to say it, but I might as well forget it. I am doomed because I sin too much, I ask for forgiveness and help but it doesn't seem to work. I am going to hell.
---sue on 7/10/06

Doctrines do make a difference paul said that false doctrines make the cross none effect, that means what jesus did will not save you under false doctrine. You are not under the blood if you are under the Law, or believe you have to pay God for blessings that are paid for by the blood, or believe in the Sabbath for salvation, or pray to Mary, or believe there is many ways to God ect.ect.

Donna, I,am not as pilote as you. there is only one truth.thats the word of God.theres only one way, thats jesus. when jesus said I,am the way the truth the life no one comes to the father but by me what in the world do people think he was saying??? all else besides jesus to me is meaningless babbles of the,s like a pharisee attitude as jesus said. speaking with a form of godliness but denying it,s power.
---tom2 on 7/9/06

This scripture has been quoted by perhaps every cult with a Bible. Each see themselves as the only ones with knowledge of God. IMHO those who worship Jesus as God, repent and accept forgiveness of sins by His sacrificial death...who seek to understand and walk in His way ...will reach Heaven. In the end, most of our doctrinal differences will mean nothing. If this seems too inclusive to some, it is still a very small number and a narrow way in comparison to all the religions and philosophies on earth.
---Donna2277 on 7/9/06

Jesus was refering to the harvest which is the preaching of the Gospel it is a two edged sword it is life to those who accept it but judgement to those who reject it,the tares and the wheat have to mature before they can be distingished they have to mature in rejection and be marked a Goat or a sheep, that is why you see so many taking sides and forming groups today the sheep and goats are seperating.

The people in heaven are going to be more than the sand of the sea. This is why I believe that passage to mean that few people find the road that leads to the abundant victorious life and many will find the destructive life. There is no proof that it is talking about heaven and hell. If few people are going to heaven how can the number be more than the sand of the sea?

Rebecca D.-quoted from your message "Not every SAVED person is going to walk on the strait and narrow". Your understanding of the word saved and my understanding of the word saved do not coincide!!
---mima on 7/9/06

Not every saved person is going to walk on the strait and narrow. Just because one got saved years ago, if that person doesn't walk on the strait and narrow path they aren't going to make it. hell is enlarging itself everyday and many will go there and very few will be going to heaven.
---Rebecca_D on 7/9/06

When Jesus was talking about sheep and goats, He was referring to judgement of nations. Sheep refer to Jews and goats refer to gentiles. I believe that because there are many religions, especially in the US, folks are going to follow them and think they are going to heaven, but won't because they aren't following the Truth.(John 14:6)
