Is Out Of Your Calling Sin

"Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin." If a person is called to be a pastor and does not answer that calling does the above Scripture denounce that failing as sin?

Moderator - Yes. Most Christians are out of their calling and it's rebellion.

That scripture refer to anyone, not just pastors. So it matters not if its your calling or not.Knowing makes you guilty.
Those that are truely called don't have a doubt.Until then,its a maze.

I would not presume to know about most Christians being in or out of their calling. I have enough of a challenge finding God's will for my own life and making sure I'm in it.

However, "calling" has a more general meaning in the NT than just to the ordained ministry.

Does the name ''Jonah'' mean anything?
---Cynthia_1 on 3/30/07

Man, you better know it is. God is God is God. And you are His.
---catherine on 3/29/07

A man who is called to preach and runs, God won't let him rest. He WILL eventually concede to God. I have known some that ran from a calling but God got their attention.
---shira on 3/29/07

Sue-- I used to ask the same question as you...."God, what do you want me to do?" I got tired of waiting and listening for that still small voice (at least in this matter) I decided if God wanted me to do something, it was up to him to let me know. I wouldn't try to "make things happen" just take advantage of any opportunity the Lord brought my way. When I quit stressing, I "fell into" a ministry that was exciting, enjoyable, fruitful and something I'd always wanted to do.

The purpose of my last post was to have you look deeply at yourself by collecting your posts on these blogs, and printing them.

You wil benefit from doing that, and then talk to pastor's wife, OK?
---John_T on 7/20/06

John T; I agree that the wife of a preacher can hurt or help his ministry. I do what I can for him, I am behind him 100%.
---Rebecca_D on 7/20/06

A preacher's wife is often on center stage. It comes with the territory. Thus you can hurt or help hubby's ministry.

Your last few posts to me, and those to Madison concern me. They seem to show a pattern, to which you may be blind.

Please consider taking YOUR POSTS ONLY and copy them to the word processor for each of the threads. Print them out, and see if you can discern that pattern. If you can't, perhaps you could talk to the Pastor's wife about the print outs.

making a statement to what kind of church I belong to without really knowing. Just guessing. I was just letting you know that I don't belong to whatever you spoke of or something like that.
---Rebecca_D on 7/19/06

For some reason, you seek to squabble. I don't.

From your description, I described a particular denomination practicng as you do, and named it so others could get a handle.

Then to cover bases, I added, "or something like that"

I am truly confused as to exactly what you object to in my post.
---John_T on 7/18/06

JohnT; I don't belong to such a thing, I never even heard of that. I don't have religion, I have Salvation.
---Rebecca_D on 7/17/06

Have you asked instead, "How has God 'wired' me?"

Each of us have different talents, temperaments and preferences to be "successful" in doing the work of the Kingdom.

Look for on-line versions of Myers-Briggs Temperament Analysis or try E harmony's free test, and get an idea. Each of these are scientifically accurate, they will give you good indications, but you have to make final choices.
---John_T on 7/15/06

Sue; Not all are called to ministry. To each of us is given gifts and a measure of faith to be used in the proper time and season. Until you have that distinct leading to do something just let your light shine and be a light in a world of darkness. We're all parts of one body and each part is important hon.
---Shari on 7/15/06

I have no idea what God wants me to do. In the post "what ONE question would you ask God?" thats why I said: "what should I do???? I dont know what God wants from me. I pray but I dont hear any little voice telling me what to do.
---sue on 7/15/06

Romans 1:6 says we are called to be saints. Therefore I would say when a person has heard the gospel and the calling of Jesus and refuses it that it is sin for being out of their calling as well as knowing to do good and not doing it.

No offence intended, and I did accurately explain to Madison your church polity.

"Rebecca probibaly belongs to the Plymouth Brethern, or something like that"

BTW still can't spell rite!
---John_T on 7/14/06

JohnT; I belong to a non-demonational church. We have a Pastor over the church, but we have 4 other preachers that preach out of the church. We 7 Elders of the church which are not the preachers. When my husband was called to preach, it came to me but I never said anything to him. I prayed that God speak to my husband if he was calling him to preach. come to find out God spoke to my husband the same time he did me. I knew it was conframation from God. John T you could have just asked me.
---Rebecca_D on 7/14/06

I believe God speaks to people in different ways. He sometimes uses people dreams, visions. Some people find they are gifted in many ways. Others get a feeling in their spirit that won't let go. You just know that you're supposed to be doing what keeps tugging at your heart. You feel a need/urge to minister,or serve in some way.
One thing is certain if you line yourself up with the word of God and step out on faith, you will get there, He won't mislead you.
---lynet on 7/13/06

Question? How does a person know if he or she is called to be a pastor?

Most will probably see this a dumb question, please indulge me. Thanks

Yes; but that is between him and the Lord.
---Shari on 7/13/06

I believe, if you know in your heart you're not doing the will of God in your life, you're willfulling sinning.
I had to deal with this. I was broken, I cried out to the Lord from a shattered spirit because I knew He wanted more from me, but I wasn't getting it right, so I did nothing. That night the Lord spoke to me clearly, telling me in just a few word's what he wanted, and has since made a way for it to happen. Easy? No. But He is faithful. Not trying was confusing, and painful, as sin usually is.
---lynet on 7/12/06

Rebecca probibaly belongs to the Plymouth Brethern, or something like that.

They do not have pastors per se, but a Council of Elders who rule the church. Preaching duties are shared among the Elders, thus a distinction you may not have picked up (because you are a liberal Democrat! 8-P)

I would really like to know Madsion why it is so hard to believe that I am a Preacher's wife? Do I not fit the profile? I am stumped here Madsion, please help me out.

Madsion, I'm not a Pastor's wife, I am a preachers wife. We don't Pastor a church, we belong to a church that my husband preaches out of. God didn't call him to Pastor a church but to preach out of this church. Why is that so hard to believe Madsion? Because I watch t.v?
---Rebecca_D on 7/10/06

How could Moderator or anyone know that most Christians are out of their calling and in rebellion?

Moderator - Simple, most people that call themselves Christians aren't.
---Gena8493 on 7/10/06

I was out of my calling for years as a teacher, but that was chosen for me by my husband. After he left, I returned to my calling and love it.

Rebecca: I would have never guessed you were a pastor's wife.
---Madison1101 on 7/9/06

yes. God called my husband to preach. My husband ran, and ran until his (our) life was so miserable it was unbareable. I am called to sing, I accepted this calling but it is different that preaching. When my husband finally accepted his calling to preach, things started to go smoother. If God has called someone to do something, and that person refused, God will only wait for so long and he will call someone whom is willing to accept this calling.
