Okay To Watch Witchcraft Shows

Is it okay for Christians to watch shows like Charmed, which is about witchcraft? This is what one episode was about: Piper falls for the ghost of a recently murdered man who needs her help. Meanwhile, Phoebe works as a psychic to help others and make money for Prue's birthday present.

I think it comes down to this:

Just what stories are "permissible", and which ones aren't? If it's not permisssible to watch a show about witchcraft (because witchcraft is forbidden), then it should not be permissible to watch crime shows (because they are about theft and murder).

For that matter, you might as well burn your old testament, becuase it's full of stories of adultery and theft and murder and idolatry.

Yet this doesn't stop anyone from reading it.

What fellowship has light with darkness? NO of course it's not good veiwing but some will say it's okay but then other sins are sticking out like a sore thumb yet they refuse to acknoknowledge their error.
---Carla5754 on 1/4/08

you dont want to watch garbage like that-but it is no different than watching anything you shouldn't.If you "feel"like you shouldn't watch certain shows then you shouldn't watch them.
---donald on 1/4/08

Thank you for the wise counsel from the gallery.
I must admit, I like the straight to the point answers from the Moderators. No wiggle room.
---Mike on 1/3/08

No ! It is a bad omen. In watching witchcraft shows you welcome yourself to be under the influence of demonic opression. Omens are real, God has power to release you from the bondage of supernatural oppression but if you want to tease the most high and stirr him to Jealoius then you deserve what you get.

Be wise in what you give your time to.

Christianity is starting to sound more and more like an authoritarian government run amok. People, step back and look at this question... Do you really believe that "god" would want you too seek the approval of ancient, unverified, historical-inaccuracy ridden texts in order to watch a silly, FICTIONAL show? I feel sick knowing that these people are electing our leaders...
---mattley on 8/21/07

I use to watch charmed & now I avoid the reruns for I am in the truth. Watching any witchcraft show or movie whether it be hollywood or a documentary is not of God.
Watching Charmed is the same as reading & watching harry potter ~ it is sinnful.

Okay To Watch Witchcraft Shows?

If you want to become a witch.
You can't serve two masters, you'll hate the one and love the other.
If watching witchcraft shows brings meaning into your life, you really haven't picked up your cross and made the decision to follow Christ. The world still has you, and if you're not careful, you can be pulled back.

Okay To Watch Witchcraft Shows
Is it okay for Christians to watch shows like Charmed, which is about witchcraft? .

"Moderator - No."

And the Moderator's answer is NO.
It's as true today as it was when the question was posted. If you're watching Charmed, you can be Charmed right out of anything the Lord would have for you.
So watch Charmed, mix light and dark, it will not all come out in the wash.
"Depart from me, I never knew you."
---Mario on 8/18/07

No, it is not alright for Christians to watch shows like Charmed. To watch is to participate. If you happen to hear a voice whispering your name, then you know where it came from - Charmed. Shows like that have evil spirits operating them.
---Helen_5378 on 8/18/07

Col 2:15 And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross.[fn4]

Personally, I stay away from witchy, sorcery, (except maybe Merlin), astrology, etc
but if I'm exposed to this stuff and I think that it might be a problem I know I have an advocate with the Father.

---Andrea on 8/18/07

Absolutety not. As God's people we have to be careful to guard our minds against evil which would include what we choose to watch on television. That is where satan attacks, the mind. This is why we are to put on the warrior's armour stated in Ephesians, 6:12-17.
---Cynthia on 8/17/07

Raine; what is your point in this scripture? And whom are you addressing it to?

These people draw near to Me with their mouth, honor Me with their lips, but their heart is far from Me. In vain they worship Me, Is 29:13 Give no sleep to your eyes.Nor slumber to your eyelids. Deliver yourself like a gazelle from the hand of the hunter. And like a bird from the hand of the fowler. (one who catches in a trap or snare)Prov 6:4

We were baptized together @ 12 yrs old, today she's in her 40's. She's fallen completely away from the church. I cannot judge your watching a witchcraft show, it gives no Glory to God. We're to avoid the appearance of evil. I am to defend my "pea patch", and pray for household salvation for entire family. Charmed may be on 1st floor of the witchcraft house, satanism on top floor - but it's all in the same house.
---Rachel on 8/9/06

Rachel; unlike your friend, I am not hooked on this show. I just like watching it. I don't play with a ouija board nor do I want to speak to the dead (demons). She is still young it seems and wasn't on solid ground with God in the fist place, that is why she is how she is today.

Do not watch Charmed. It's a hook. My cousin is obsessed with show. Cannot quit watching, now she plays with ouija board, goes to the cemetary and calls up the dead. She quit going to church. I've witnessed to her, she listens, we're the same age and very close. Resist the devil and he will flee. Resist watching this show.

Madison, this is a professional, personal, peer-level question TO YOU ALONE.

Please reflect on your vulnerabilities that Rebecca stomped on here.

Obviously, from your replies, and desire to continue (her position is entrenched) it may be that validation is a sensitive area for you.

Just a bunch of handless, eyeless, moteless (for sure since the eyes are gone) people in utter confusion just wondering what to do next. The very image of that makes me makes me want to roll on the floor laughing. Thank you Sue. The good news is that there is only one righteous enough to wield the axe...and He has laid it to the root of the tree called Adam and dealt with the whole mess ahead of time.
---Linda6563 on 7/19/06

Sue, could you even imagine a "hand chopping, eye plucking, mote removing service" in this day? Everybody would bring their own axe to grind only to discover they need their own hands chopped off, their own eyes plucked out, and their own mote removed. That would leave them with nothing to wield the axe to chop off the hands, pluck out the eyes, or remove the mote from anyone else.

WOW do you really think it would be better for Rebecca to PLUCK HER EYES out than to watch a silly FAKE show on television? There is so much evil in this world, more so than a dumb tv show (every try watching the news).....we'd all be walking around with no eyes! Anyhow if Rebecca plucked out her eyes she'd end up in a mental hospital!

Madision, so I guess your not willing to make amends on this? I honestly don't have anything against you, but as of right now I don't see the things you see, and vice versa. If all of us agreed on every little thing, what would we talk about? How would we come to a greater understanding if we all agreed on everything?
---Rebecca_D on 7/19/06

I think we need to draw a line in the sand and say no to the devi's tv. If you watch shows with witchcraft, then what else do you watch shows with? Bestiality? Homosexuality? Rape? Murder? Polygamy? Incest?

You may be correct in what you say, but it is just as disrespectful to not understand that the very words of the Lord himself have been turned upside down in Traditional thought.
---Robert on 7/19/06

Madision, I am 31. but you have to do more than glance at the tv to even post what was going on with the show above, right? What did you do Madision, glance or look? There is a difference. I honesty don't have a problem with you, I just don't understand why someone would harp on me over a tv show, if you would recall, you were the one whom attack me first, we both was expressing our own opinions, right? Let's just call it quits and talk about something that we both can come to an agreement. Sound fair?
---Rebecca_D on 7/18/06

If I am in the room when it is on at work, OH WELL.

Ido not intentionally put my eyes on that show, you do. Take those verse to heart. They are for you.

In Sunday School the kids sang "Be careful little eyes what you see, for the Father up above is looking down in love, Be careful little eyes what you see."
---Madison1101 on 7/18/06

Rebecca: How old are you? This is getting so petty and childish, I do not know why I even reply.

Of course, I may glance at the TV when I enter the room to see what is on. Of course, I may glance at it in passing through a room.

The synopsis of the show is not an opinion, but the show's producers' write up of the storyline of the show.

What is your problem with me? I choose not to view the program for my pleasure and suggested that you do the same.
---Madison1101 on 7/18/06

Madision, so without seeing what is on tv, you know exactly what happens? How is that possible by just hearing what they say? Your reasearch was about someone else's opinion, and you are going by what someone else says, right? John T she has a choice, she can turn her eyes away from the tube, but instead she had to have watched it in order for her to quote what was going on. Madision, those scriptures are for you as well for you have two eyes just as I do.

---Madison1101 on 7/17/06

Rebecca, what part of madison1101's response here do you not understand? "I do not have a choice."

Do you mean for to quit because the TV is on, or do you mean for her to create a rukus, and get fired just to suit your views?

It is sooo easy to condemn another Christian; that is how our Accuser works. And you do it to her.

Could there be an open area in your life where the Enemy works that causes you to be so closed-minded on this because you do not have victory there?
---John_T on 7/17/06

Rebecca, when you are fighting for your own right to watch a TV program and defending that right in the eyes of others, that is not peace. It is fighting. Jesus gave the example and I placed those Scriptures in my response. You can either stand in peace like He did or you can continue to defend your "right".
---Linda6563 on 7/17/06

Rebecca: You need to grow up. I am working while on the job, while the TV is on. I am at a table, talking to my clients, crocheting, teaching them to crochet, reading with them, playing Scrabble with them. I may not be looking at the TV, but I certainly am not DEAF. I can hear it.
---Madison1101 on 7/17/06

Daphn; Well apperantly she didn't choose to take her eyes away from the tv because she knows what is going on with the show. So with her doing that and telling me it is wrong all at the same time, she is in the wrong. I have no idea what the black arts is, I don't know much about witchcraft, just what I watch on charmed and all of us know (should know) that the shows on tv are not real. So for you to condone that she too watches this show and refuses time and time again to admit it you are just at fault.
---Rebecca_D on 7/17/06

Yes, Madison is in control of her eyes - and avoids it when/if she can. So are you. I will tell you this - as one who's personally left the practice of the "black arts," by choosing to partake of this particular evil, you are inviting demons into your home. I hope you "wake up and smell the coffee" before it's too late - for there are consequenses for willinginly partaking and linking arms with darkness.
---daphn8897 on 7/17/06

Daphn; Madision, is in control of her eyes, is she not? So we know that she does, so therefore she has a choice to watch it or not. She didn't say she does the best she can to avoid it, she said that if she can she doesn't watch it, notice she said IF. She done research to see what other people had to say, and then went along with them. How am I walking away from peace from God Linda?

Rebecca, if you are at peace in your heart regarding this TV show, then why don't you just stand in that peace knowing God instead of walking away from Him in an attempt to justify that peace? Jesus, who is Peace, needs no justification or defense. Your testimony would be better proven by your silence than by your defensiveness.

I see only defensiveness from you... which usually means an "idol" was touched.

Rebecca: You can justify all you want. I am not able to control what is on the TV at my work place. I am not allowed to leave the TV room when I am assigned to it. I do not have a choice. You control the remote on your TV, and you choose to watch the witchcraft.

Madision, you were the one who attack me first. All I done was posted what I watched on and then you were the one who went off on how wrong it was and how badly I was sinning. Judge not or you will be judged. With the same standard one uses in the judgment of others, that one will be judged by those same standards. Judge righteous judgment. The only righteous judgment is the judgment of self. Why judge what we may consider another indiscretion when we have so many to discern within ourselves. We stain at a net and swallow a camel.

If we will not judge others we will not be justifiably or unwarrantably judged.
