What Is Love According To God
The true understanding of what love is is very important for those who LOVE God, not simply "faith" Him ("God is LOVE"). Our relationship is supposed to be based on "the GREATEST of these" (1 Corinthians 13:13).
Have "faith FOR faith", Romans 1:17, Hebrews 11:6).
Agape, philos, eros, and storge are NOT "types" of love, they are types of love RELATIONSHIPS, not love itself (there's only ONE thing called LOVE).
"God is love"
"God is ONE" (Galatians 3:20).
Read 1 Corin. chapter 13 (the LOVE chapter of the bible). It is a description of the PRESENT/inner heaven that should be in our heart and mind (in preparation for the new heaven, Rev. 21:1).

there are three kinds of love.
* phileo: family or friendship
* eros: sexual
* agape: unconditional
Jesus taught agape love, to be the motivation in every relationship.

when the COMFORTER comes,whom I WILL send to you from the FATHER,the SPIRIT OF TRUTH,which proceedeth from FATHER...

God's love is agape love. That is choosing to love someone because they are God's creation. They have not done anything for us,to us, or to make us feel this way about them. We choose to do this because it is the right and honorable thing to do. All of life is about choices. The best choices we can make.

True love of God will give to others expecting absolutely nothing in return. It is self-sacrificial and gives never expecting to receive.

Love is: If we have food and our neighbor does not, give our neighbor food and us do without for once. It won't hurt us. Love is doing without to help someone else that is in need. I am not speaking about "lazy" either. On thanksgiving last year, we heard a knock at our door. It was a young couple with a baby out of gas. My husband went to get them gas and I invited them to east dinner with us. They appeared to be very poor and needy. That made my heart feel good.

Love is an attitude or state of being lead by thoughts, motives, & intentions that inclines us towards a tendency to do that which is uplifting, edifying & beneficial to & towards our fellow man.
Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.
True love focuses outwardly of oneself while inwardly discerning oneself.
To answer: Loving Gods way is an intellectual choice. Our way is sensually based, & determined by how we feel emotionally, & whether we feel a return of that emotion.

I did a study on AGAPE in the bible, 3 english words translate into this word. LOVE, CHARITY, and DEAR. Dear was only used one time, and in regards to the Lord Jesus Christ. Not all love in the bible is AGAPE love. All Charity is Agape love. If there were more AGAPE love in the world, there would be less hate. Christ even had Agape love for the soldier who pierced his side with a spear, Would you?

God gives us so many Good things from his love.We as carnal creatures by nature need to love God first then he gives us the ability to love others as cor chapter 13 describes.

1 Corinth 13:4 Love is patient and kind; love is not jealous or boastful; 5 it is not arrogant or rude. Love does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; 6 it does not rejoice at wrong, but rejoices in the right. 7 Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. 8 Love never ends; GOD IS LOVE, GOD IS ALL THESE THINGS. GOD LOVED US FIRST, so HE GAVE IT OUT FIRST. We receive it by the power of His Holy Spirit.

Yes, love (Agape) is unconditional, and it is not made manifest in our lives by a system of rules or law. Unless by the law of the Spirit of life in Christ. How often do we really walk in love with the people around us. I just became aware of my "trading" and how others are trading around me. I believe only by His grace and the power of the Holy Spirit and our connection to the Vine can we really love like Christ...
