Hard To Be A Christian

I have heard this phrase from some people, not here but others I know, they tell me that is is hard being a Christian. Why do you think, they think it is hard being a Christian? If their heart is right with God, then how could it be hard?

Because we are human, we all want to be accepted and loved by everyone, its especially hard when u find other groups of ppl who are really nice and sweet and are overall good ppl, but not into the whole christianity thing. we are afraid of rejection and being alone and forfeiting certain intimate friendships that we know can make us happy, but what u should always keep in mind is that there is no greater love then Jesus' and even when the world tries to offer better or equal happiness, we need to show God just how much we believe in him by sacrificing certain things we may want, it hurts, but God will guide u through it and will show a better outcome than u expected. God doesn't want u to be unhappy, but rather get the best out of life

I can FULLY understand that. Sometimes it is difficult to be a Christian. I've had a few times I felt like giving up, but (Thank you Lord) God helped me realize that what the world has isn't all that it's cracked up to be, and WHY would I want to even THINK about going back to empty tinsel and glitter, or self-absorbed mindsets? It was during these times that I grew stronger. Oftentimes, it would preceed a new and deeper, more spirit filled experience.
Isn't that what "Grace" is all about? Depending on God's sustaining power in His Word, In Prayer, In Fellowship, In Praise!!!
Dear Friend in Christ, Check out these verses...Galations 6:7, Matthew 11:28-31, or how about Jesus never leaving us, nor forsaking us, no matter what.
---timotheus on 10/7/08

it's impossible to live life as a Christian, have you tried loving every neighbour or being holy?
Gal 2:20 it's no longer i who live but Christ who lives in me.
our life died and was buried, and was exchanged for the Christ Life.
we try and dig the memory of our old life up, instead of abiding in Jesus and let Him reveal His Life to a hurting world, through our mind will and emotions.

Being a christian hard-"the process of denying yourself". Matthew ch13-14 -is this scripture really meaning its hard to be a christian or could it mean its easier to do wrong then to do right. According to 1john5:3 this is love for God: to obey his commands. and his commands are not burdensome(hard). Yes its hard because flesh or spirit is not made up.Is it hard to love? Then its hard to be a christian. I would think Jesus would say its hard to go through trials as a christian but easy if you know the cost and submit to the Father. It becomes easier as a christian when we know the father more and more because like Jesus he new the outcome.
---davidaloca on 9/26/08

Because it is! if you really follow Christ. It is impossible without the power of Jesus Christ. true Christianity is not a comfy religion.>>>>The devil will see to that!

Jesus always speaks clearly and hides nothing from us.
---Nicole on 8/26/08

Mans eyes are dim & there hearing is dulled from ALL the generations of traditions & laws that have been put in his place for salvation, "Again".

Jesus only spoke clearly to his D's, all others were spoken to in parables.

We(people in these times) have the advantage of reading what the D's wrote, which has made the word of God even clearer...

Like Peter & Saul said, Acts 15:20 & 29

To be a real Christian costs you everything. Remember how Abraham had to choose between God and his only son? In other words, Jesus must be number one to you, before your spouse, before your children, before your family, before your career, before your home, before your church, before your possessions, even before your self. Jesus must be your Most Highest God. If Jesus is not first and your all in all, and mean more to you than anything else, than you cannot be his. Please Read- Mark 10:17-31+ Luke 9:57-62+ 14:26-35.

Temptations? Frustrations because other Christians don't see things the way you/I see them? Disappointments, when things that some promise don't happen? Being misled or caused to doubt or wonder, about false doctrines? Realising that you can't stop that sin? Illness, financial difficulty ... why doesn't God look after me?
---alan8869_of_UK on 8/10/08

duane, Yes, it's God's power that we must depend on & use in our life, daily. Faith without the power/unction of the Holy Spirit in our life is dead. Temptations lose their "appeal", when we depend on/use God's power, truly falling in love with Jesus(humility & a obedient heart/walking in the Spirit) is the key. (Colossians 1:10). God Bless!

**IF WE LIVE THROUGH FAITH, The christian life is joy, not hardship.
If we live through flesh, its impossible**

Awesome, true statement. However, becuase of the narrowness of love,...cont'd...

2) until Jesus comes, the Christian walk also requires personal sacrifice and denial, that become the hard or challenging junctures of Christian walk, among the sweet and joyful ones. With our knowledge being limited, certain sacrifices will no doubt be painful, but at the same time gratifying in righteousness when we see that God is pleased because we obeyed.

The Christian life is sweet not hard, yet,
The Christian life is hard.

---Mrs._Morgan on 7/26/07

duane, Faith without God's power, the Works of Christ/the Holy Spirit in ones life is dead faith(James 1:27). You seem to be a little different then some other OSAS false doct.supporters on CN(same goes with Pastor Herb),but there's a deadly confusion about Grace & the 2 types of works. We must have godly fruits, a good tree can't bear bad fruit & a bad tree can't bear good fruit. Jesus said those who love Him keep His Sayings(abide in Him/the Word), a must!

Mrs Morgan,
I have read James and the rest of the books.
Nothing in any of them will shake the foundation of Christ that I rely on.
Im a forgiven saint, I know that...I have imputed righteousness, my sins are not counted against me. Sin has no power over me.
Dont you know, all flesh sins and sin shall not enter? How can man say he is saved, if sin is still counted against him? ..Jesus took sin away......
---duane on 7/26/07

I agree with Jay. He's also perceptive. I think that duane is a want to be. You can tell who is real and who isn't when your a Christian. These are just opinions now, so let the apples fall where they may.

Amanda>> I used to think like you because I was Christian only in word and not in Actions. Honey, being a Christian isn't just hard it is impossible. This is why Christ had to come down to the earth and live it for us, so that we could live it through him. However even with his spirit living within us we still have to struggle with our carnal nature. This is why Paul states that the good that I want to do, that I do not do.
---Marcia on 7/23/07

I have to say that it was always a sin to think about killing someone (or commiting adultery which was the example used), Jesus simply clarified that for us, he did not add to it.
---Amanda on 7/22/07

Also, I do not believe it is hard to be a Christian. First, God will not give us an unbearable burden. He promised to give us whatever strength we need to bear it. Second, I believe that some say it is hard to be a Christian because they are trying to be one by themselves, and not through God. I can imagine that task would be extremely difficult.
---Amanda on 7/22/07

Yes, it IS hard to be a Christian. Everything today seems to be against Christians when you think in worldly terms. In the OT it was a sin to kill someone, now it's even if you think about it. The apostasy happens when Christians cannot endure being a Christians any longer because of the tribulation/ adversity in their lives. This is especially true for the pre-trib Christians. It's the inner peace that God provides which makes us strong even when man kills the body.

In the first place your heart right with God has absolutely nothing to do with it. However, the more obedient you are the more you will suffer. As far as the question reads: Ofcourse, It is not hard to be a true Christian it's impossible, without the help of the Person of the Holy Spirit.
---catherine on 7/21/07

catherine, as I said to you earlier, I have compassion for your family.
It's really hard on the family to live with a narcissist. This disorder does run in families and it's hard to treat. Most Narc's will not seek medical treatment. They are like a tornado that rips through a family, leaving a path of destruction every where they go.
---George on 7/21/07

For the record, catherine wrote those two posts using my name. It speaks of her character. She's pulled this before.
She is angry because I do not believe she is a messenger or prophet of God, not at all.
I do believe she is Christian woman with a testimony of Jesus Christ. We will probably never hear the real testimony because she would have to give up her prophet personality that she uses as a weapon against others for survival.
---George on 7/21/07

I asked the question, should we tell them the truth and risk the chance they might throw themselves into a walleyed fit. The answer was YES, that the truth will set them free. I will not enable catherine's prophet personality using curses to scare people to her authority. That is spiritual error, controlling and manipulative. I feel so sorry for her family members.

Some here crack me up, even Herb. Yes, He makes our burdens light but we have to do our part as Christians and it's not always easy. I'm not talking just about temptations here either. Some must even die for the Gospel of Christ and that is far from easy. Even Jesus didn't want to do it, but never the less He agreed that God's will be done. Rebecca, it can take some years to mature. It is a learning experience. Once we understand that God can strengthen us to do all things that he expects of us we depend less on ourselves and more on Him. Those who believe it's too hard being a Christian most probably haven't reached that understanding yet. Tney don't run to God as they should when they are faced with unmotivation. Christs's commandments can be followed at all times, even easily, as long as we are walking in the Spirit.

Discipline is never easy. It goes againt our very nature and a christian is a disciplined learner. So if we choose to walk the ways of Christ, it will never be easy going. So be encourage saints and always remember Jude 24.

Yes it is hard to be a Christian because the spirit and the flesh are always at war with one another. We can have joy in the Lord though. We'll need it because the Word of God tells us that the joy of the Lord is our strength.

So you people think it is hard to praise and worship God? To abide in him and he in you, is hard? To live right in the eyes of God is hard? The TRIALS are HARD to go through with. BUT SERVING GOD IS NOT HARD TO DO.

You can't deny it. If it's easy for you to be a Christian, you have not been sifted yet. Obeying God's laws are not greivious, but sometimes the trials we face are very hard. 1. There are lot's of people who call themselves Christians, that only follow God in what they choose. Thus, they will tell you that it's easy to be a Christians. Sure it is, if you do that. The Holy Spirit will convict them of something that they should or should not do, and they will just ignore it. After awhile their heart will become callus and they will no longer hear God's warnings. Yes, for them it's easy to be a Christian. They are deceived. God is not mocked. There will be a price to pay.

The trials gets harder, when one does more for God. That is expected. What is so hard about living right for Christ? It isn't hard serving him at all. I agree. We must crucify the flesh just as Jesus was crucified. He chose to go to the cross, just like we must choose to do right over wrong. If you think that's easy, then your not hearing God's voice or your resisting God's will. The trials will come, and the temptations will follow, and they are not easy. If you are Christ's child you will suffer, but only for a season, and God will reward you, if you indure and abide in Him. Those of you who say it's easy being a Christian, you better check your walk.

Yes indeed, being a Christian is hard. I didn't say it wasn't a joy. There is a difference. I just came back from a memorial for a wonderful brother in Christ who went home to be with Jesus. I find it very difficult to be a Christian.
The more I desire to do for the Lord, the more harder it becomes. I try planning and the time is used up, I try waiting and I don't get around to it.
I have however learned to just stop, and make small steps in the new direction I need to go in. Otherwise I might get stuck:)
I've learned to (try to) laugh at myself, and take it easy while I'm living and working for God, and basking in His never ending labor of love.

Timothy: It isn't hard being a Christian. How hard is it to worship, praise God? It isn't hard at all. The tribulations and trials we go through with is hard. I know the closer one gets to God and does more for God the harder the tribulations are. Paul said when I do good, evil is always present. The trials are hard, but being a true child of God isn't hard at all. And yes I am so truely a Christian. People believe it is hard being a Christian, as you claim, because you make it hard.
---Rebecca_D on 5/23/07

Rebbeca, Lean not on your own understanding. If you don't find it difficult to be a Christian, then you are not one. You may think you are, and are just going through the motions. I have been saved through Christ for 25 years and the closer I get to God the more the trials come. If it was hard for Jesus, Paul and other true Christians, then it will be for us likewise. Count the cost.

Well honey. It is not for the faint hearted. You have to be totally committed to Christ. You cannot be straddled the fence like a lot of counterfeit christians. Either you are on God's side or you are not. A lot of people profess to be saved but are not. It stops right there with them. But getting saved is only the beginning. There's much more after that first step. No one ever said it was going to be easy. But it is a very worthwhile journey. It will pay off after while. Hold on to God's unchanging hand.

Rebecca, from what you said after I asked, i'll point out that some who call themselves Believers, really aren't. I met many like that while in the Navy! Instead of relying on The Spirit to live through them, either sinfully or because they never knew Him, their feeble attempts at living a 'good life' on their own were soon altered by peer pressure and various temptations. Some people are very fearful of losing their jobs, so do whatever they can to 'fit in' with the majority!
---danie9374 on 7/22/06

Rebecca, thats the hard part. Your flesh just loves to be in conflict with Gods word.Satan knows all your weaknesses and uses them against you, and your flesh is weak.Just get ill, or have marriage problems, or money issues, and on and on. Then see how much your flesh controls your mind away from spiritual thoughts.when you get oplder and you aches and pains stay all day, and your kids and grand children start having issues.Life Is hard , but harder without jesus.

If most Christians believe that the Rapture is to escape Gods wrath, why are the dead taken up? Paint your heart with the blood of the Lamb and youll be protected.

Jesus made it harder for Christians when not only if you DO the bad thing, but even if you THINK about it. It's even more difficult in today's world where everything catches your attention from News to advertisements, from TVs to computers, from an anti-social society to entertainment. Each is a temptation. Its hard NOT to think about bad things. Dont think about how to gratify the sinful nature Rom. 13:14; Say NO to ungodly passions Titus 2:11-12; Rom. 8:5-8; Matt. 26:41
