Lori.I find this statment rather Chilling(an eye opener)"when blacks were allowed to move throughout the county" This tells me that there are still many who have a very deep seeded hatered for their fellow human beings. Are you a Christian? or are you sometimes to ONLY some people. By the way all your comments are hearsay. As U said U saw it on TV in the 1960's. This was the view for you ONLY 1 sided.
---freeda on 9/18/07

Beth: What r u trying to say? I can respond to 1 of your many comments/statments. The leaders of The Democratic Party are about 70% White. So, why are you blaming blacks...I will use the term African Americans for various of your issues? I live in a large city in the NE where 9 out of 10 voters are Democratic and the voting population is about even African and White Americans.

Many African people are suffering from the effects of slavery, driven into the wildernesses and deserts, while their fertile land is populated by foreigners and have a little more compassion on children of the surivors from this awful trades. Its become nasy trend amongst Jamaicans and until you go to JA and see the conditions left by colonialism, lost trades through their Independance.
---Carla5754 on 9/18/07

The land in larges places is Blue/green with poison because all the minerals have been stipped by the American backsite, left when the Country gained Independance. Britan refused to trade with them and now import very little Jamaican Bananas/produces. So their is very little work, and girls as young/boys as young as 12/13 pretend to be older and work the resorts as prostitutes.
---Carla5754 on 9/18/07

That information was given in a documentry by a famour childrens story teller In britan when he started a career in resarch. He recond he turned dowm a girl of 14 posing to be 18 as we watched her dance provocatively to attract foreign men for money. No they don't have to do this kind of work and many don't, it's money easy, and a service the resort are willing to exploit, through greed.

Hi Carla, forgive me if I sounded insensitive, I didn't realize how much racism still goes on in ways--awful! :( I am very sorry, by the way, your heritage sounds awesome!!
---Mary on 9/17/07

All I ask is that people get educated on slavery and the real effects of what racisim can do to nations of people, sometime you wonder if Africans did something really bad to have this happen to them, because it just does not seem to end, although racism in in every nation of the world, people say the Jews are the most hated, I would say hate is in everyone who does not know what Love your neighbour as yourself really means.
---Carla5754 on 9/17/07

lori, your "history" is appallingly wrong. Thousands were not killed or injured in marches. Violence was NEVER started by the marchers but by the racist police. Please don't pretend to inform people of lies.
---alexia on 9/17/07

alan I was referring to african tribal leaders who did sell their own, but they did not see slavery as we practiced it. It had nothing to do with human worth. It was historical slavery. American slavery was a new thing, a lifetime definition whereas in the past, one could be freed, ransomed, or purchase one's freedom and be a free citizen.
---alexia on 9/17/07

Alexia ... I was referring to the British slave traders transporting slaves in sub-human conditions to America and the Caribbean colonies.
Art that time slaves were traded with them by their own tribes leaders

Carla5754 I'm sorry for what you've suffered and what all non-white peoples have suffered - especially at the hands of Christians. I'm always amazed that so many churches in the states are black. They know it is not Christ. Yet still many churches abide racism. it is no longer politically correct but it still exists.

Hairdressing is very compettitive and it's easy . I can only say this now by looking back and seeing what I really put up with and at the last hurdle when a collegue blaitantly told me in no uncertain terms what she used to call her black friend at school and how she was going tell this asian girl what for using rasist jargon all they way, as she plotted to get rid of this student.

alan of u.k. I was a teenager when all that happened and watched everything live. Martin Luther King was opposed to violence of any kind by his own people, but it didn't stop them from looting, violence and marches ending in thousands of people getting hurt or killed. Dr. King won a nobel peace prize for his role to curb violence. James earl Ray killed him so blacks could escalate their violence and force the government to cave into their demands. many laws were passed creating equality for all.

Excuses is a poor example of Ignorance and I'm sorry if thats hash to say the least but until you have lived and being a victim of it's ugly presence you can only comment out of >Ignorace< and if you look into the meaning of >IGNORANCE< you might understand a tiny bit of how the word RASISM can loose it's meaning from being merely an excuse to actually mean Hate/hurt/Distroy out of IGNORANCE. People use ignorance to mean arrogant/stubborn but it's really means uneducated.

alan. They did not think Africans were sub-human. Slavery up until America got involved never had anything to do with one's value as a human being. It was soley the result of capture. One could often buy oneself free, or be ransomed in which case one was treated as any other free person. We changed it to the ugliness of subhumaness.

Mary ... Carla could be British ... there are people here who are descended from slaves.
They were torn from their homes and people to be slaves in America and the Caribbean islands, and later came to Britain for work.
Thank God, they are increasingly being accepted here, but it is taking a long time
---alan_of_UK on 9/16/07

Mary ... But it is wrong to say only the Americans and British are to blame.
Slavery existed in Africa long before the Europeans fouind the place. And the chiefs rounded up from their own people those whom they would sell to the slave traders.
But no doubt thiose who traded ihn slaves did regard them as being a sub-class of humanity, and therefore saw nothing wrong in exploiting them in this way.

---Mary on 9/15/07

Lori ... You say "Martin Luther King opposed violence and was assassinated for it"
What evidence do yuo have for that statement? Do you suggest that it was black extremists who assassinated him for not being violent?
My understanding is that Martin Luther King was assassinated because he was asking very effectively for the rights of the black people, and it was the white racists who wished to silence him.

I have read several comments going back and forth by Carla and Darlene. It is painfull, to say the least about slavery and the history of it. It does not matter that only a small fraction of whites in the U.S.A. own slaves what matters is that all whites were taught that blacks were "chattles"to be owned. They were considered 3/5th human. This set the tone of how Africans Americans were being treated in this country. May God bless us all and help to ease this horriffic pain in Jesus name.

I guess it's head to look at the source/cause of hurt and understand where it all came from because then you may uncover some vile thing in yourself. Martin Luther King wanted to see All people being treated the same but was killed before he could see how difficult that task was going to be. con't. I agreed with what Dr. King said in his speech. He wanted recognition on behalf of everyone, regardless who you were. he wanted peace, not violence. many citizens from Africa were used to murder, violence etc. that is what africa was and still is in places. many laws would be passed like the civil liberties act of 1969 meaning everyone was hired according to qualification. many old laws were discarded and it made the U.S stronger as a nation.

Today Black Americans,West Indians, Africans, other ethnic minorities or even magorities carry their own steryotypical on each other, many having little or no knowledge of their own past. Which derives from the old slave/colonial mentality.

carla, In the U.S 1961 pastors, ministers etc of black congregations led people in rebellion and hatred of authority. Abraham Lincoln abolished slavery back 1865. Forming an agenda to take over the U.S. leaders led their people in violence and hatred. Martin Luther King opposed violence and was assassinated for it. Hundreds of laws outlawing segregation, etc were passed to appease the civil rights agenda. When that happened crime skyrocketed. I was there. I lived it.

WE here in UK live in Great Britain. Now that Great is nothing at all about power, or the Empire. The Great stands for the whole od the island, where England, Wales and Scotland nestle, rather than just part of it, as was before those seperate countries became one nation.
But that is just a side issue, lest anyone think that we usurp the word "Great" into our name so as to imply greatness.

Now how is America great? I guess that what makes her great is not that she is the wealthiest nation on earth (although that will not last, the way China and India are going) but that she does do her bit to help the rest of the world, faulty and inadequate though that help sometimes is.
