Is It A Sin To Go To Las Vegas

My husband and I are thinking about going to Las Vegas, not to gamble, but just to see the lights, shows, sky diving, and other attractions. Is it a sin to go to a place called sin city?

Why shouldn't his opinion count? Why should yours? Trump is a con man, and I question anyone who supports him, and holds him up as an example, a poor excuse for a Christian.

Do you fit in that catagory?
---NurseRobert on 11/12/20

My opinion counts BECAUSE I LIVE IN THIS COUNTRY, whether you happen to like it or not. I have lived more than half of my life here.

Since you seem to have an attitude that people who don't like it where they are should just leave, and if you don't like sharing a country with me or our next Democractic president, why don't YOU leave, and go to a country that is actually ruled by a theocracy, rather than a secular government, and where there is no separation of church and state? I'm sure you would just love it in Iraq, Iran, or Saudi Arabia.

Thank you! You are one of the few level-headed people on this site.
---StrongAxe on 11/12/20

little ax: How is it that your opinion counts on such matters? Why not go back to your home country of socialist Canada?

---jerry6593 on 11/12/20

We agree Strong Ax. On Trump.

Have a blessed day.

How is Trump Hotel "Jesus Approved"?

Trump breaks all Ten Commandments (boasting of several). He commits all Seven Deadly Sins. He goes against almost everything Jesus ever taught. When Evangelicals prayed for him in 2016, he said "Can you believe this b***s***? Can you believe someone believes this b***s***?" He and his family defrauded charities, stealing money earmarked for veterans, and KIDS WITH CANCER!

Despite this, many Evangelicals call him "God's Chosen".

His administration is the most corrupt in recent history. 3 Recent Democrat administrations had 3 criminal indictments. 5 Republican ones had 120. Trump's alone is 215 and counting.
---StrongAxe on 11/7/20

Donald, that may change shortly.
---kathr4453 on 11/7/20

It's fine but only if you stay at a Jesus approved hotel like Trump International Hotel Las Vegas. Then it's totally fine.
---Donald on 11/4/20

I agree with Robyn. Besides the attractions and shows have woman dressed sinful. They wear very little clothes which is a sin.

That alone puts images in your husband's mind for ever.

---Nicole_Lacey on 6/2/18

That is so funny because I see all that at the local Walmart.

Ok question, is it a sin to be a resident of Las Vegas?
---kathr4453 on 10/20/18

Other questions that need an honest and true answer is "What is your spiritual walk with Christ?"and "Are you relatively new Christians?" The answer to these go along way in addressing why people go to public forums or blogs and ask these types of questions. Spiritually mature Christians already know the answer because they communicate with Him daily. The spirit of Truth will never mislead you nor disagree with the scriptures. Could it be that asking other Christians that you know or your pastor would reveal where you really are in your spiritual walk? No one but YOU (and the Holy Spirit within you) can address these questions honestly. You owe no one but yourself the real answers. All I can suggest is PRAY! Part 2 of 2
---Michael on 6/3/18

I don't see Las Vegas any differently than TV or Movies.

They are live show as TV/Movies can bring those same shows and attractions live to you on your TV.
---Nicole_Lacey on 6/2/18

Is it a sin to visit Las Vegas? No it is not but, you still have to be honest with yourself and with God and answer the question of "Why do you really want to go there?" If not to witness for Christ on the streets then what is the real point? Basically a person just hasn't "crucified their flesh" or brought their mind and body under total subjection or alignment wiith Christ. 1 Thessalonians 5th chapter Paul teaches us to "Abstain from alll appearances of evil". The book of Hebrews teaches us that Christ died ONCE and we are to quit trampling under foot that precious blood that covers our sins by continuing to knowingly sin. A Gospel without repentance is watered down.

---ROBYN on 7/6/17

Some Christians don't believe in this kind of thing, but, the demon spirits would be rampant in such a place.

It would not be a sin, per se, fro a Believer to go there, it simply depends on what you intend to do there.

Your intentions, as stated, seem valid.

It would just be wise for you and your husband to be spiritually wise and covered in the Blood of YAHUSHUA / JESUS and be covered with the Ephesians 6 Armour.

That way, Satan cannot sidetrack either one of you with temptations for sin.
---Gordon on 6/30/17

Well whenever I hear someone call Las Vegas "sin city" either if he means it in a positive way or a negative way, I always feel like slapping him in the face and saying "REALLY!?!? So not New Orleans? Not modern day Amsterdam?"
---Random_Boy_3_m on 6/14/17

Sin is world wide, no matter where anyone goes, sin is always present. you can walk into a grocery store and get shot. Or a bank and get shot. You can go to a Church and get shot there too. Sometimes there is some really bad people there that only come to do evil because someone didn't treat them right.
Also, temptation is everywhere. It is up to us to discern what places to go, and even then you are not safe from others who have different agendas. Agape
---Luke on 9/13/14

Are folks who live in Vegas sinning because this is their residence?

Many of these resorts, because of losing so much money have reinvented themselves as family friendly resorts now, without all the trashy stuff. Much like a land cruse.

Years ago we passed through and at night the lights are spectacular. I found it humorous seeing a slot machine in the ladies restroom of a gas station.

For those who live in that part of the country, I'm sure there are a lot of fun events to see, without buying airline tickets to another city with SIN.

One argument could be that it is just a place where there will be many good things as well as the bad and WE should be able to sift out the bad and leave it there. However, reality is that human beings (even Christians) are weak and curious - children even more so.

We have to always be one step ahead of Satan.

I never enter a pub, even just for food, because I prefer to stay away from where alcohol is served. I've never touched it and never intend to.

There are plenty of better placed to go, see and do.

No, it would not be a sin to go but it might be unwise to go.
---Rita_H on 9/11/14

My thinking is that if you have faith in god to protect you and stay away from any sinful things in that city you can have a fun time. Research on-line look for anything G-rated or for kids and you should be safe.
---darkocean on 9/9/14

Every place a person might want to go to is filled with sin. Sin is all around us. While some places can be more tempted that others, there is danger everywhere you go. In some places you go your life is in danger, not your money. San Francisco is pretty sinful. But there is places you can go to have fun and eat out. Las Vegas is the same. Many places to enjoy yourself and see, and places to eat. Now living there I would never agree to. A very good place to witness for Christ. It is all up to how faithful a person is. Enjoy life but be careful, Agape

Las Vegas is no more like Sodom and Gomorrah then just about every other big city in the United States. So you must try to prevent people from visiting any large cities.
---love.jesus on 7/31/14

Is it a sin to desire a visit to Sodom & Gommorah? If you have no obligation there, i will suggest that you do not go there. Instead visit the prisons, motherless babies homes & the homes for the aged.
---Adetunji on 7/31/14

GOD uses and those who can handle what they can handle or even can't handle.
Lot was given an opportunity to escape. Noah,Abraham, Israel etc, etc.
Job's friends gave advice too and learned a life lesson as well about GOD's purpose...not theirs.
Mat_9:12 But when Jesus heard that, he said unto them, They that be whole need not a physician, but they that are sick.

Agree with visiting widows an orphans.

Trav, we don't have to carry sin around everywhere we go. We see sin because the world is full of sin.we are to be seperate. We live in satans world.

Lot really liked Sodom and Gomorrah a lot too!

Gamble, gambling is not mentioned in Scripture that I can find. Every financial move we makes carrys some risk.
I'm like some of the responses below. We carry our sin....wherever we go. Christ visited and was chastised for visiting the very places we should carry our strength and wisdom in as well. Unfortunately for me....I fail as Paul failed. For that which I do I allow not: for what I would, that do I not, but what I hate, that do I.
Romans 7:14-16 Romans 7:19
For the good that I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I do.

---alan8869_of_UK on 9/24/08

I know preachers and leaders in the church who goes to Las Vegas for all of the wrong reasons. They do gamble among other things. If your motives are right, Las Vegas, the city itself, is not off limits to visit. The city has been named Sin City because the evils that go on there. Of course, that can be anywhere.

We have LOTS to do to prepare for our move.

I see that Rev_Herb holds the minority view here; but I partially agree with him in that if you are asking about this, then maybe you need to commit this to more prayer. Remember we have the freedom in Christ, but we may sometimes elect to give up some of those freedoms so as not to stumble others. So I'm not saying "don't go" but maybe further thought and prayer is in order.
---Benny on 8/6/06

nvBarbara please explain to me, since you lived in Vegas for so long, why is it that when we visit a buffet the piece of steak that we want is always on the other side of the turnstile. And, just before it comes around to us someone else grabs it. (Huh... who let the dogs out.)
---Elder on 8/6/06

Well dear hearts and gentle people, we're still in Oregon at Steve's Mom's. We'll return to 'sin city' on Saturday. The BIG news is that we're moving here to OR to be close to Mom and help her recover, no other family close by. It is awesomely beautiful up here and our duty to be with Mom.
Elder, don't get me started on the Vegas buffets, mmmmmmmmmmm!

I've always wondered what goes on in Truth or Consequences,NM?
---NV_Barbara on 8/3/06

nvBarbara, my dear Saint sister, I went into the MGM Grand and bought supplies to use that helped me to present the Gospel to others. How sinful was that.
(The food bars were extensive but not sinful, we won't go into that.)

This concept (sinful to go to Las Vegas) demonstrates perfectly Jesus saying about going after the mote in someone elses eye when you have a beam in your own.

High profile places:
Las Vegas, San Fransisco, Hollywood
or low profile places:
Dimebox,(TX) Nameless,(TN) and Lookingglass, (OR)
each and every one is a "sin city" with out Jesus.
---Bruce5656 on 8/1/06

Going to Las Vegas and staying away from the sinful activities is no different than comming to my home town and staying away from the sinful places here - and every town or city has them.
---Bruce5656 on 8/1/06

Rev, Heck yes I live in a sin city: Detroit! Drugs all over the place, murders, just all kinds of SIN.(but believe it or not there are beautiful things about Detroit) I was just wondering why some think it's okay to visit a sinful place as long as you dont sin but not watch a sinful show as long as you dont participate in the sin. jeez.
---sue on 8/1/06

Any town can be "sin city" depending on what YOU do there. There are more restaurants AND churches in LV than any other city per capita. We don't drink, nor gamble, but I love on occasion to go shopping or for dinner at one of the casinos. Look inside NY NY, or MGM, Paris, Caesar's, Wynn or many others. I like the shops and the architecture and just 'people watching.' Make sure you get a good high up look from the monorail that circles downtown.

Sue are you saying that you don't live in a "sin" city? Is everything where you live perfect in the sight of God?
Las Vegas has the advertisements to trap those who want to be trapped in the first place.
Is Barbara and Steve in sin because they live there?
Christian need to learn to go into the World and not be part of the World.
---Elder on 7/31/06

Actually, I think the LV city council has violated the 1st Amendment (freedom of religious exercise) by making it a crime to feed homeless people in parks.

Jesus flat out commanded us to feed the hungry, and the LV City Council passed a law making it illegal.
---Jack on 7/31/06

Sue: I can sin in Philadelphia, my big city near me, or I could visit historic sites, museums, and see theater, or a concert. I am certain, if you ask nvBarb, that there are historic sites, like Hoover Dam, museums, and theater and concerts that are not "sinful" activities, in Las Vegas. I bet there are even some evangelical churches there too.

I was wondering...a while back I read some posts about watching 'bad' tv shows. Now why is it okay to visit a sin city as long as you dont sin, but not okay to watch a sinful tv show as long as you dont participate in the sin?
---sue on 7/31/06

No. It is what you do that would be considered a sin. If you did go to gamble and know it is wrong, then yeah, it would be as sin. if you go just on vacation, then where is the wrong in that?
---Rebecca_D on 7/31/06

If you don't drink or gamble Las Vegas (Lost Wages) is a great place to visit. People who want to sin will find a plase where ever they go.
As far as a sinful place, most of our homes are just as sinful, but maybe not in the same way, as Las Vegas. We just don't advertise as much.

NV Barbara, when I heard the first time you're from Las Vegas, I figured someone would say that you are a sinner because you lived there. I am sure many will think things like, "Why don't you move?" or "I would never live there" Just to justify their faith. I don't think anyone has to justify their faith but to live it. Vegas is a beautiful place to visit, just like many other places in the world. We still live here, but we have to not love it in terms of sinning, like the world does.
---Lupe2618 on 7/31/06

Vegas is a city just like Chicago, or Orlando. Families are raised, people work, and go to school, and worship in spirit filled churches. Then theres the nightlife. There's an opportunity to sin everywhere you may visit. Perhaps not as easily accessed as in Vegas, but anywhere you go you have to make the decision on what part of the tourist attraction you wish to enjoy. There are casinos all over my city, I choose not to gamble, but the food is great, so I've dined in them.
Have fun.
---lynet on 7/30/06

nvBarb: I was hoping you would answer this one.

Herb: You must really condemn sister nvBarb because of her residence in Sin City.

I went to Atlantic City, which has resorts like Vegas, and had a great time with my family. My mom has been to Vegas twice in the past year, and loved it. Go and have a blast. Remember, what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas.
