How To Grow Fruit Of The Spirit

Explain how the fruits of the spirit are revealed in a believer's life. Are all of them automatically present when one is born-again or do they come with time as one grows in the Lord?

Moderator - They should continue to grow throughout a Christian's life as none of us ever arrive.

Psalm 1:2-3 NIV, "But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither. Whatever he does prospers."
As we grow in the Lord our witness will become more apparent, and we will produce more fruit. This isn't quite the question you asked, but it's leading up to my answer, so bear with me.

Last night in prison ministry I had the privilege of being with a man who exhibited many many fruits of the spirit. Realizing that I fall woefully short in exhibiting the fruits of the spirit, I have confessed this to the Father in prayer. A Christian cannot grow fruits of the spirit. But their existence in the new Christian is like the seeds in a nut, nurtured they will grow. And I'm calling myself to do a better job of nurturing what God has given me.

They are not automatic.
The scripture says "the trial of your faith worketh patience."
Many are afraid to pray for patience as is will bring the trials to test your faith and the tribulations to build it.

It's the Holy Ghost Himself that produces these supernatural fruits. When a born-again person, yields to God, and goes on to tarry and receive the Holy Ghost the Holy Ghost bears these fruits in a persons life. We must receive the Holy Ghost and let Him manifest these wonderful fruits in our life. --Mrs. Morgan

I can only share how the fruit of the Holy Spirit was produced in me. By the word of God and by experience. When I sinned, I waited for God to punish me, instead, he loved me even deeper. Thus the fruit of love was produced. When I asked for Joy, he showed me how to study the word Joy, thus now I have Joy Unspeakable. When I couldn't control my temper, the Holy Spirit trained me to restrain myself and said, "Don't say it Donna." I think I've run out of the 85 words.

Yes they are all present the moment you get born-again. The word "fruit" means produce/outcome. Every ounce of the fruit of the Spirit is in every believer, but we just have to choose to walk/conduct ourselves in them. When we walk in "love" the rest of the fruit will be shown too.

We grow in the Spirit by feeding the Spirit through the Word of God.

#4 The heavenly "HUSBANDMAN ... MUST BE FIRST PARTAKE OF THE FRUITS". II TIMOTHY 2:6 We feed on Christ. The Father feeds on the Christ in us. We should refresh and rejoice His loving heart? He should see only Christ in us? How. Following is the answer:
Cease from your own works, "AS GOD DID FROM HIS". HEBREWS 4:10 Count your old life dead. Count Christ only to be your life; and count that very Christ-life continually dependent upon the Father, even as Jesus was.

#3 In ISAIAH 61:3 saints are called - "TREES OF RIGHTEOUSNESS, THE PLANTING OF THE LORD, THAT HE MIGHT BE GLORIFIED." These trees bring forth fruit because of the fruit-bringing life within them. Jesus "CAME AND SOUGHT FRUIT" on the "FIG TREE"; that is, the Jewish nation (which stands for the very best the old creation can produce), but He found none. Now He seeks fruit only from the new creation.

#2 No one, in himself, can produce such fruit; yet, there are those who try to palming off their own human love, patience, and goodness as the fruit of the Spirit. They appear in three distinct groups:
1. Love, joy, and peace express our attitudes toward God and men. 2. Long-suffering, gentleness, and goodness are our attitudes toward men only.3. Faith, meekness, and temperance enable us to make the second group practical.

#1 Gal. 5:22,23 There are nine - three times three, divinity multiplied by divinity - the full exhabition of the character of "THE GOD OF ALL GRACE" in a bloodwashed human life. There are not nine fruits; but nine aspects of one fruit. These nine features can't be separated Where one is, all the others are, though they may not all be witnessed at the same moment. They are the product of the Holy Spirit in us.

John 15:3-6, NIV "You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you. Remain in me, and I will remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me."

When Jesus enters into us we are automatically tapped in to the fruits of the spirit, but it is through remaining in him that the fruit becomes evident in our lives.

When you produce fruit you become a living testimony to the Most High God. We BECOME Salt & Light. This is my favorite subject in Chrtistianity. I have devoted the majority of my studies to this subject. It is one of the most important aspects of Christian maturity. I have coupled this study with the study of the Merismose and it is phenominal.

It is important to note that man cannot produce fruit by his own faculty. Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness, faithfulness and self-control may only be produced in the heart of a true Christian by the power of the Holy Spirit.
---Ryan on 8/2/06

Maturity in the Spirit will lead to production of fruit. As it says in John 15:1-2:
"I am the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser. "Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit, He takes away; and every {branch} that bears fruit, He prunes it so that it may bear more fruit.
So as you can see when we bear fruit we get pruned so we may continue to bear more fruit.

What an awesome question? All Christians should seek the answer to this question. Fruits are the result of belief and faith. When one believes and has faith they are transformed into a new creature. This new creature also is given a new heart. These happen instantaneously. The production of fruit is a result of man turning his focus from flesh to the Spirit. The fruits are revealed through the power of the Holy Spirit that is now in you.
