What are examples of walking in the flesh? What does the Bible say about walking in the flesh vs. walking in the Spirit? Is the Holy Spirit able to bring it under subjection if a person humbles themselves?

If you walk in the Flesh you will fulfill the Lust of the Flesh.
The sins of the Flesh destroy Both Body & Soul!
Not all sins are of "the Flesh" though, Some are preconceived thoughts & Imaginations that are fulfilled thru the lust's of your own Heart & Thoughts...

We are to bring our own bodies under subjection. God is not going to do it for us. He wants us to do it for him.

Debbie, The answer to your questionis in Galations 5:
Gal 5:18-21 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the Law. Now the deeds of the flesh are evident, which are: immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmities, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, disputes, dissensions, factions, envying, drunkenness, carousing, and things like these, of which I forewarn you, just as I have forewarned you, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.

The Holy Spirit is the promise of the New Covenant to do all that man under the old covenant could not do. The Holy Spirit according to Romans 8:11-13 mortifies (puts to death) our old nature. Paul says: I die daily. The Holy Spirit is who raised us up together with Jesus Christ, as we now walk in newness of life.

We are always carrying about in our bodies the dying of Jesus Christ, that the life of Jesus Christ is made manifest.

This is the walk of the Born Again believer.

Steve, it is true that the examples you gave are fleshly, however there are fleshly acts that appear to be good. Many try to live by the golden rule for instance, all within their own power with little to no acknowledgement of God, let alone reliance upon Him

Yes, you are right about abiding in Him.

, walking in the flesh means alcoholism, anger, lust, gossiping, greed, foul talk, pride, bigotry, refusing to repent, etc. all who live this way will not enter heaven.

if we had power and ability to bring our own body under subjection... then Jesus died for what?
of course we have to make an effort to do so, hopefully with the GUIDANCE AND HELP of the Holy Spirit.

#11 I do believe that those who have totally surendered their lives once and for all, that God truly takes it from there. We have a long learning experience of flesh and spirit. So much religious flesh that God has to put to death. Many things we can't figure out why this happened or that happened until we come out on the other side, look back, and then say, "Now I understand".

christina , If we hold on to God's unchanging Hand, and keep Abiding in Him, we will not fail, because God will be there leading us, but if we decide to break free from God's hands(sin/disobedience) then failing will occurs, God promises to help us every step of the way if we truly Abide in Him, and yes sometimes we have to learn the hard way, when we don't Abide in Him. Nevertheless God is Good.

Amen Ryan. Mrs Morgan too, although I would add to Mrs M that one may appear to be successful in their own efforts or have a degree of "success" but eventually WILL fail. I know because of all my many many attempts.

REV Herb is right on target,we must show our willingness & "E"for Effort & Endeavour to obtain Gods grace & keep us in His favour or grace, if we are to succeed, walking in the spirit.
---Emcee on 8/30/06

Rev_Herb , We do not have the power to bring our own body under subjection, it is the Holy Ghost that does that, we must Yield to Him, to God's Holy Word. If we fail to Yield to the Holy Ghost and God's Word we will fail every time, because we are attempting to do it ourselves. --Mrs. Morgan
