I dont know if you have seen the HBO special about Rome. From what I understand it is historically accurate. It parallels the US almost to a T. Power combined with religion, the divine right to start wars, corruption, wealth as god, total disregard for the poor; it is all there.

there are similarities and differences. the main difference is The USA doesn't war to gain greater boarders (most of the time) but it goes to war to give the nation to the people of that land. small difference. but as far as superpowers go, we will also be brought down. when who knows but history proves that most fall eventually. but if history is correct we have about 1500-4000 years first =)

Yes at one time but sadly we seem to be heading in the direction of those ancient nations. Is it too late? Never so we take courage and "stand" when U have done all stand hold your ground like all good soldiers and let God our Head General then take up our battle. But either way for the Christian it is good, either a revival or the prophecies of Rev.are near the door. Take heart either way we win!

Jack is correct.

The Problem is the Bible canon so revered by fundamentalist was organized by the RCC, the same RCC fundamentalist are quick to condemn.

** mikem -please do not confuse catholocism w/ Christianity. HUGE difference**

RW, please do not confuse evangelical protestantism (especially American pop-evangelicalism) with Christianity. HUGE difference.

Now, do you see just how UGLY and UNTRUTHFUL your words are?

Every president since then -- Bush, Clinton, and now George W. Bush -- have similarly taken their oaths of office facing the obelisk. It is difficult to think of a more despicable Satanic symbol than the obelisk. All occultists literally worship the Egyptian Sun god, Ra, whom they belive resides within any obelisk. By "facing the obelisk", a person is also worshipping the evil, Satanic spirit within.

Rome's decline began after Christianity became the official religion in 325ad. Its 'morality' was far worse during its greatness than when after it became Christian. Christianity was the official religion in 325, By 381ad Paganism was outlawed, Rome was finished by 450ad.

Quite a few of your old superpowers contributed to our moderen day culture in the US. But, we have picked up some of their bad habits too - especially Rome. Rome, if I remember history correctly, destroyed itself, internally, from moral decay. The US is doing the same thing. We have been and are still pulling away from the moral ideals that made us a superpower, and it will cause our downfall as a nation.

But don't forget that between Alexander the Great and Julius Caesar a big, stable Empire with a more-or-less unified Graeco-Roman culture (everyone spoke either Greek or Latin; everyone who was anyone spoke both) that allowed wide commerce in ideas was JUST the situation to allow the rapid spread of the Gospel over a big geographical area.

Indeed America is unique among all the great powers. Different in abundance of wealth, gifted individuals, immigrants and ingenuity and innovation. And(here in my opinion the reason for our greatness) we and we alone among all the great powers have consistently given free rein to the Jewish immigrants had been strong supporters of the state of Israel. Recognizing that the Jewish people are God's people we as a nation have acted accordingly.
