     Helpful Blog Vote (23)

Reply to this BlogPost a New Blog

I think votes should be swept clean, and let the Moderators vote for helpful bloggers.
It would slow down mean hearted bloggers that swipe names, tell falsehoods with them and continue on with their agendas.
Have the Moderators vote on what is in the best biblical interest for outsiders, looking in.
Take the wind out of sails, or slow the windy down; encourage good bloggers back. Another option would be Mod. votes for best responses to a topic.
---ApplePie on 5/17/07

Moderator - does this mean we are no longer voting for the most helpful; or are the top 25 no longer listed in a separate category.
---Tim on 11/28/06

I mean when the helpful slide off the end, fingers hanging on tightly, and whoops, off they go.
---Tim on 11/27/06

Tim ... the votes don't slip and slide any more. Only for a short time were negative votes taken into account.
---AlanUK_quent5969 on 11/27/06

People have a competitive nature, more than most would like to admit. Have you noticed when the votes start slipping and sliding, the blogging steps up? Harsh tones subdue. It's funny.
---Tim on 11/27/06

Helen ... I have no complaint about my own "points" in my old name or my enforced new name.
The issue is that hardly any new votes are being recorded, so what use is the league table? There is supposed to be only one vote per person, so there is no opportunity to revise one's view of people as time goes on... either to vote for or against.
But I appreciate that your vote continues to rise inexorably, and have no complaint about that either..
---AlanUK_quent5969 on 11/27/06

AlanUKquent - Yours has already started new because you changed your name! I think maybe your old name should be dropped from the list.
---Helen_5378 on 11/27/06

Hardly any new votes are bing added to the existing totals.
Is it time to start a new league?
Or to drop the idea?
---AlanUK_quent5969 on 11/26/06

emg ... Yours 10/27/06 your very last question ... the answer is he will not answer
---alan8869_of_UK on 10/28/06

Elder ... I am so sorry to hear of your loss. Will pray for you and your family.
---alan8869_of_UK on 10/28/06

Helen ... why be sorry you said anything? It is not one, but two, and even if only one, that person is hurting, and cut off
---alan8869_of_UK on 10/27/06

Elder ... in case my others did not come through ... go back and read ---Helen_5378 (Vote) on 10/19/06
---alan8869_of_UK on 10/27/06

emg ... to your last question, my answer is I do not know
---alan8869_of_UK on 10/27/06

Emg - There really is nothing to be confused over. A couple of people had their profiles deleted that is all. One (Kathr) has resigned up, and the other apparently does not know what happened. I am sorry I said anything at all.
---Helen_5378 on 10/27/06

Since Helen's posting on 10/18 I'm thoroughly confused and wish that someone would explain what this discussion is about and why Elder should know more about it than anyone else. What is it that Elder can help with Alan and why isn't the moderator clearing up the confusion??
---emg on 10/27/06

With what Alan?

Kathr ... I did not

Helen5378: I deleted myself. No one deleted me. I didn't know you could block someone from e-mailing you. I was getting unwanted messages. I'll resign up. Talk to you soon.
---kathr4453 on 10/24/06

Oops, I'll just open my mouth again to change feet!!
---Helen_5378 on 10/21/06

Who is being deleted and from what are they being deleted? I just don't understand this.
---emg on 10/19/06

Helen, where are you finding people blocked?
On pen pal page or do you mean they are unable to be voted for?

Moderator - I have just come across a third person who has been deleted. She is a volunteer, at least was, and I find her very helpful. I know that Kathr4453, Alan8869ofUK, and now Gail8873 have all been deleted. I think something must be wrong. Possibly it is the "Block This Person" feature?
---Helen_5378 on 10/19/06

If a person follows the rules, their blogs are posted, otherwise they are not posted. If someone continually breaks the rules, it can cause a moderator to just ignore all of their postings for a period of time due to our limited schedules.
---Moderator on 10/18/06

Moderators - Are Bloggers warned first if they are in trouble or about to be blocked. Or, are they just blocked?
---Helen_5378 on 10/18/06

I find the 'helpful blogs' to be the best of the two. It reflects what the world is interested in. I think if the blogger list was eliminated altogether, discussions would return to a helpful tone. Replace list with a "Moderators' Picks" for helpful blogs, and keep the "Peoples' Choice Helpful Blogs"

I think Moderators only should vote on helpful bloggers. At least they are supposedly seasoned in the Word, as opposed to, as Elder mentions, that someone from a cult comes in and votes for unbiblical bloggers.

Moderator - That has been a thought here.
---Dennis on 9/24/06

Does the system reach a point where it resets itself? Or can it be reset by the Moderators?

Moderator - No and no.
---Helen_5378 on 9/24/06

Do we have a new moderator?

Moderator: Nope, same moderators.
---Helen_5378 on 9/20/06

I think the voting system is finally on the right track. (if we have to have a voting system). "Helpful" is a totally subjective measure...but it's useful. A negative vote was criticism without any suggestion on how to improve.

Alan, if you are correct in your answer to MAC and I'm sure you are, then it would have been better all along if we had been shown that each individual has a certain number of negative votes and a certain number of positives. The total (whether positive or negative) would have made a lot more sense. Mrs. Morgan's score now shows us that quite a few voted POSITIVELY for her whereas she always had a large NEGATIVE score before which made it look as if no-one voted FOR her.
---f.f. on 9/15/06

I get your drift, Elder. So change the name again. Current, Recent, Participatory. Or revert to Popular. Honestly, I'm new. I wouldn't hang/trust my salvation on a list of bloggers. I wouldn't stay in a burning building if a dispatcher said it was o.k. At some point, you've got to take responsibility and work out your own salvation with 'fear and trembling.'
---Spike on 9/14/06

Moderator and Spike, In my opinion the voting is not about the poster or blog but creditability of the blog for future readers.
Here is the problem;
If Mr. Cultist posts a blog and his friends that answer with him outweigh those who carry to truth then the blog will have a high rating. Younger Christians may come, read the high rating and think that good is being posted and end up confused.
There is a danger in that.
This is not about people's position here but those who are seeking truth.
---Elder on 9/14/06

Luke 22:24 'But there was also rivalry among them, as to which of them should be considered the greatest. Verse 26 'he who is greatest among you, let him be as the younger, and he who governs as he who serves.'

I've went from a rooster to a plucked chicken. I tell you true, where you stand on the ladder won't make any difference in the big picture. It's not your placing that will save someone's soul. It's the Word of God and your testimony. Aim your sights on Jesus. Let the Lord Jesus Christ, the Holy Spririt, and our Father, God be our heart's desire.
---Spike on 9/14/06

This new system is confusing, but in a different way from the original. I see peoples names now who with the old system never went down to a minus score but now have only a handful of votes, whilst those who previously had huge minus scores now have huge positives. Moderator, have you counted ALL votes as if they were positive, even though a the time they were given as a negative? Barbara the purpose escapes me also.
---Mac on 9/14/06

Alan what I meant was if only one question was posted with an answer then you could determine that if it was helpful or not. You cannot do that with an open forum like this.
If I say that Group X is a cult and it is the truth that is helpful for the truths sake. If Group X gets together and votes against that blog it is advertised as unhelpful.
So are we back at square one or what? What is it that was broken in the first place?

Moderator - FYI for all, there are no negative votes in the system, only positive votes as to whether the blog helped someone.
---Elder on 9/13/06

I have been on CN for a long time. I see some come and go, but I see the old stand bys and I read their blogs first. I don't always agree but I respect their faithfulness.
The purpose of voting still escapes me.

R.A. You're right. I think it is a great exercise in doing just that. Also lets those know what is going down.
God said in the OT, I will put before you a test of truth and lie. He tests us to know His word, and develop discernment along the way.
---kathr4453 on 9/13/06

I don't see any need to worry about the cultists, etc. The road warriors here can spot the errors. Each individual blog is sufficient for the day. When someone is off base, 25-50 people are hot on the trail. Reading their bibles, quoting scripture.
---R.A. on 9/13/06

Oh my goodness Moderator!! I must be doing something right then!! LOL. Not sure I wanted to know that though LOL.
---Helen_5378 on 9/13/06

I am not being critical and what I'm saying is meant to be helpful to the cause. So...
If I am a dedicated cultist with nothing but mixed up theology and misunderstanding yet I write a lot can I become a most helpful blogger and "head to the top" of the list?
Is my blogs voted on based upon content and truth or how many I post?
There are major flaws in the voting system that is very misleading.

If there were one question and one answer then the vote could show if the blog is helpful or not. When a cultist brings in friends to vote that blog can be considered most helpful whether true to Scripture or not.
Think about this, will the Antichrist be rejected by the masses or accepted because of his great words?
As overworked as the CN staff is they don't need the extra duties of keeping track of a voting system.
---Elder on 9/13/06

Alan8869ofUK - Wow!! You explained it really well. Thanks. Gee, I am really doing something right to get all those negatives!! I would have had the worst minus ever. LOL.
---Helen_5378 on 9/13/06

I really like the change. It's so positive. I know a bold stand really gives some a big pinch. You can waltz around the pink elephant in the living room or share your testimony. I saw some with -votes become silent. I value them, they've given their time and hearts in these blogs.
---Rachel on 9/13/06

I like the new voting system. I was just looking at the list of names and it now makes sense -- all the people there are the ones who put in the most work here. What does not make sense Moderator is how come I did not have 30+ people vote for me before it changed?

Moderator - You did, however you also had around 30 negative votes. We don't count the negative votes now. Yes, the more people help answer questions, the more likely they will be on the list.

At its highest, my score was 8 I think. It went down to 4 and is now 15 or 16. I'm guessing that you have now discounted the negative votes and reinstated the ones that were taken off by them, plus, I must have had a few more positives since then. It should become less confusing from now on I think. Eloy sure has a fan club!!!!!
---M.P. on 9/13/06

The new method of scoring is good. Now people can't take us down simply because they don't believe like we do or didn't like what we said. Thank You
---Darlene_1 on 9/12/06

Moderator - My vote score has shot up overnight from -3 to 30!!! Are you sure that is correct. I never had that many votes before, even negative ones. Not complaining though - it has given me a boost to go on.

Moderator - It shows that since you were witnessing many people were getting their feathers ruffed up. However, the viewers of the blogs were being helped which is what is important.
---Helen_5378 on 9/12/06

Thank you Moderator I understand now. I thought we were starting all over, but now I see you just removed all the negative votes. That makes sense now. What I find funny is I have 16 people who think I'm helpful and there were 30+ people who believed I was unhelpful. I wonder why they think I'm unhelpful?

Moderator - No clue, but not anymore :)

Hey, I like it. The veterans that have been here a long time are getting a fair shake. They've watched themselves go from helpful to the North Pole. I think it's a better gauge of who really has hung in there. It's all good.
---Raine on 9/12/06

There must be some type of manipulation of the voting system. I was hovering between -8 & -11 and I am now at 15!? I noticed on the HELPFUL BLOGGERS link everone has had a enormous spurt in positive votes. What is going on. I like the ability to vote on individual questions.

Moderator - As stated the negative votes were removed. ONLY positive votes are counted. ONLY positive bloggers and positive blog votes. Everyone's comments helped to make the changes. All bloggers get a +1 vote :)
