Steveng ... There is definitely a song ... "wonderful wonderful Copenhagen"

I can still remember the tune but no more of the words!
---alan8566_of_UK on 6/1/11

alan8566_of_UK: "I can't remember from what film "vonderful vonderful" came from!!!"

I remember it, Lawrence Welk, but "he denied he ever used the phrase "Wunnerful! Wunnerful!" though it later became the title of his autobiography." (Wiki)
---Steveng on 5/24/11

alan8566_of_UK, that's funny.
---eloy7794 on 5/24/11

Another way of getting rid of pride is to actusally apply your christian love on a daily basis. Do an online KJV bible search for the words "one another", "each other", "comfort", and "encourag" to fight the evils of this world.
---Steveng on 5/22/11

Eloy ... I have been to Copenhagen, but only vonce.

And ve did not vonder, for ve were led on a regimented excursion by my cousin who lived there.

I can't remember from what film "vonderful vonderful" came from!!!
---alan8566_of_UK on 5/19/11

pedant, in Denmark? no. But I have been to Germany and England and France.
---Eloy on 5/14/11

Eloy ... Have you ever been to vundervul vundervul Copenhagen?
---pedant on 5/14/11

pedant, that's vunderful, we're makin' progress.
---Eloy on 5/13/11

There is an old song called "I wonder as I wander"
Or is it "I wander as I wonder"
I w'o'n't challenge your do'n't!
---pedant on 5/13/11

pedant, do'n't wonder ToO far, yoU might get lost,!-:.
---Eloy on 5/13/11

Eloy ... on a small point of grammar & punctuation, I wonder about your "so's"

The apostrophe is normally used in two circumstances ... to indicate a possessive (as in "Eloy's post") or to indicate the ommission of letters (e.g. "It is good" becomes "It's good", and "He has gone" becomes "He's gone")

I've not seen it used in the case of plurals (except by greengrocers, who insist on calling potatoes "potatoe's"

What do you think?
---pedant on 5/13/11

Luk 18:11 The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican.
Luk 18:12 I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess.
Luk 18:13 And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner.
Luk 18:14 I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased, and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.
---Donna66 on 5/12/11

pedant, more "so's". But to answer your question, "No, never, even as I have already posted earlier."
---Eloy on 5/12/11

Eloy ... So even before you were saved, you never had any worldly pride?
---pedant on 5/12/11

pedant, I already detailed the definition of my posting, and how your misapplication and superimposition of your thought of pride into my clear posting is wrong.
---Eloy on 5/12/11

Eloy ... My point was that when you thought you knew everything, that was pride. But naybe you have a special definition of pride?
---pedant on 5/11/11

pedant, you assumed that you knew the definition of what I posted, when in fact you did not. Now your point is?
---Eloy on 5/10/11

Eloy ... Being a pedant, I think I get sentence structure and other grammatical matters right ... an example being the use of the word 'whom'

So I think 'there is nothing really new for me to know' about grammar.

Don't think that I am guilty of pride?
---pedant on 5/8/11

Eloy ... (continued) But, even though I am a pedant, I can get things wrong ... and missed out the word 'you' in the last line.
---pedant on 5/8/11

pendant, I never posted that I was proud of knowing everything. What I posted was, "I recall once as a teenager that I thought that there was nothing really new to know." Again, this was not pride, but a thought that there was nothing presently new to know. And right after this thought, I indeed learned something new about people.

"How has God helped you to get rid of pride in your life?"
He granted me an understanding of the truth of these verses.
"I am the vine, you [are] the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit, for 'without Me you can do nothing'." Jhn 15:5
"O LORD, I know the way of man [is] not in himself, [It is] not in man who walks to direct his own steps." Jer 10:23
"If anyone thinks himself to be something, when he is nothing, he deceives himself." Gal 6:3
"Do you see a man wise in his own eyes? [There is] more hope for a fool than for him." Pro 26:12
"And if anyone thinks that he knows anything, he knows nothing yet as he ought to know." 1Cr 8:2
---josef on 5/8/11

Eloy ... I was referring to the time before you found that out and started learning ... to the time when you were proud of the fact that you knew everything
---pedant on 5/8/11

pedant, I know exactly what is meant by my own words that I have posted, and you are 100% wrong, for learning something new is not pride. I suggest you look up the word pride in a dictionary, then you also will learn something new.
---Eloy on 5/7/11

//I recall once as a teenager that I thought that there was nothing really new to know//

That indicates that at that time you had a pride that you knew everything.

So it can't be that you // have never had worldly pride//

robyn, I suggest that you look into the mirror when you address me, for I have clearly posted: "I HAVE NEVER HAD WORLDLY PRIDE. I RECALL ONCE AS A TEENAGER..."
---Eloy on 5/6/11

Eloy: My heart truly goes out to you. We can live to be 100 and beyond, and we will never know everything, there is to know. Everyday is an opportunity to learn something new. I hope you have oputgrown that kind of mentality you had, when you were a teen. This day,ask the Lord to help you to understand what pride really is. I am sensing in my spirit, that you still don't really have the understanding you need now. Even as an adult. We all are ignorant and prideful about many things in life.Whether we know it or not.GBU
---Robyn on 5/6/11

I have never had worldly pride. I recall once as a teenager that I thought that there was nothing really new to know. Then later while playing basket ball, one of the young guys from another country was getting the ball and he fell against the gym door and it swung open, and the young man became extremely terrified when he saw snow falling from the sky for the very first time in his life. Then I realized at that time that there are people which really do not know about some of the common things in life.
---Eloy on 5/6/11

I was raised Catholic, went to RC schools, knew much about God, but didn,'t know Him personally. I did not think I had pride back then. I obeyed the 10 commandments, or so I thought. It was works (synonomous with pride). I was saved years later after going my way (More pride) and only the shedding of His light in my heart could reveal my pride o me. It's an ongoing thing, the closer i get to Him, the deeper He takes me. So knowing Him, as opposed to knowing about Him. Only He can shine that light so we know how wretched we are without Him, and more then in just an intellectual way.

Robyn---It is also true that all but the most shallow of individuals, appreciates a truly humble person. So when you have to humble yourself in front of both God and man, though you are embarrassed, you may not be recieving the harsh "judgement" you imagine.
---Donna66 on 5/5/11

Dr. Freud said not all pride is bad and that the human being needs an "ID" (pronounced like "is") to be human (SELF-identity).

The pride of accomplishment is well deserved, VAIN pride is bad (Ecclesiastes 2:17 Solomon summed up HUMAN nature as "ALL IS VANITY", the "flesh" is the mortal WEAKNESS).

Let The Lord teach you the GENUINE humility that is necessary for how He wishes you to be. A true SELF is unique and can relate to and identify with "I am who I am" (Exodus 3:14) without any "self-abasement" (Colossians 2:18). Suffer peacefully (suffering produces character IF you "ENDURE" instead of whine and complain as a "woe is me" victim, Matthew 24:13).

God increased my knowledge and understanding of Him, by showing me practically that HE can bring me down & make me to taste what the very lowly are experiencing daily[Nebuchadnezzer's example too]. This has helped me to know that all advantages that one has is by God's grace.
---Adetunji on 5/2/11

Pride: an ugly evil character defect. Hard to get rid. This is why God hates it so much.I don't think we ever get rid of this demon. When I have to swallow my pride or lower myself ,I usually feel very terrible and preyed upon. Especially with other people. I don't have trouble debasing, lowering and humbling myself in front of God(prayer...etc....)Because I know He loves me, cares for me and will not judge me, as does humans.

Joshua parallels Ephesians.

When we cross over, they the Jordan, we through Calvary, we have one who goes before us...they Joshua, WE, Jesus Christ. Their enemies were all the ITES, our enemies, are the ites too, including Powers and principalitues.

The ITES in our life are all those things in SELF/the world.

SELF = Pride, hate, worry, impatience, lust etc.

1 Peter 4 is our Journey while we are in Christ, AS THEY were in the Land.

Faith is the key, in driving them out. Faith IN only One who can...Jesus Christ. Totally Surrendering and depending completely on Christ, you WILL be more than conquers!

The Truth will set you FREE!

---Rod4Him on 1/15/11

kathr4453, A-men, there is zero shame in serving righteousness and living for God. I am very bold for my Lord as he likewise is for me. "My soul will make its boast in YHWH: the humble will hear, and be glad. In God we boast all the day long, and praise your name for ever. Exalt. For though I should boast somewhat more of our authority, which the Lord has given us for edification, and not for your destruction, I should not be ashamed." Psalm 34:2, 44:8, II Corinthians 10:8.
---Eloy on 1/14/11

Excellent example, StevenG.
We all have "pride" built-in, and there is no "painless" way to remove it. Nothing that we read or contemplate does the job like real experience, which is not soon forgotten.

An excellent way to get rid of pride is to actually get punished by God.

I had an electronics manufacturing plant in the 1980s building microprocessor boards for the wastewater industry. Revenues were great to say the least until I started squandering the money. The money became an idol. Then God punished me forcing me to sell the business and having the new owners turn around and sue me. I lost everything and became homeless for exactly one year. During that time I humbled myself to God. It was a time of deep thinking, asking questions, reading the bible and, of course, a lot of praying. He did provide me with a job making $20 per week.

---AlwaysOn on 1/13/11

Eloy, I know Paul felt the same as you, but instead of using the word proud, he said I am not ashamed. I am not ashamed of the Gospel.
---kathr4453 on 1/13/11

Knowing that pride is acting like the devil - It is how he got kicked out of Heaven, and how he will oporate in the Anti-Christ, and that I am nothing but a filthy wreatch in need of a savior, and cannot fix myself. In other words comming to the end of myself.

Godly pride is good. I am proud to be a born-again Christian, I am proud that we serve a mighty God, I am proud that God is not dead but alive, I am proud that God hears our prayers and answers them according to his will, I am proud to follow after Christ and righteousness, I am proud to reject satan and evil, I am proud to serve Christ and do his will. His praise will be forever upon my lips. Hallelujah! Lat everything that has breath, Praise the Lord!

The understanding that whatever that you have or are(status, position, wealth, connection, intelligence, brillance, successes etc) that is better than others have all been given to you by GOD's grace. You are a steward to God who is expected to use all you have for GOD's glory and betterment of human-kind.
---Adetunji on 1/13/11

I have come to the realization that my life is eaten up with pride and will never be the man God wants me to be if I continue to live with it. I pray that God will help me by providing His wisdom to identify the areas of my life where pride lives the strongest. I will journal my thoughts and concerns during this journey. I will continue to pray for God to provide wisdom and clear, honest thought and focus. I will also discuss all this with my pastor and other Christians and will pray to live a life in accordance to God's will, not mine. I believe that God will help me if I do this in faith. I start today, January 11, 2011.

How do I know? I do not understand how He works. And if anyone tries to give an answer to this, He may come along and let you know that pride is still hidden there.

How to get rid of pride?
Remember that there is no such thing as a nameless and faceless person. God loves and rains on the just and unjust.

While titles tell others of their great exploits for the Lord, the humble are out doing them without the approval or accolades from man. But they're not home yet.
---Michelle on 11/28/07

God uses the humble.
While the prideful are thinking of new titles to call themselves, now it's Apostle so and so, Prophet center stage, the humble are being used like stealth bombers. They move in undetected, miracles happen and before you can hold your hand out to thank them, they're gone.
---Michelle on 11/28/07

God has shown me that I need to be more humble. He has done is by allowing me to work with a man, who is very effect with his Soulwinning message, and even very effective in praying for the mentally handicapped (Alzheimer's) by the laying on of hands. I not only marvel at this man's effectiveness. This man is also the most humble man I have ever met.

God always has a way of bringing us back to earth. If one looks at the lost people on this earth it brings about a sadness in ones heart and then you realize you are one of the ones that are just trying and not better than anyone else. As soon as we get arrogant, something brings us back to reality. Having a relationship with God makes you realise how small and dependant we are. Psalms can offer you an answer.
---Junia on 4/28/07

By humbling me. God has a way of humbling us without humiliating us, amen? In his infinite love He can humble us if we have a yielding heart to be humbled.
---Donna9759 on 4/26/07

Turning towards humility will automatically keep you out of pride. Humility is the antithesis of pride. *Just as a bonus, humility is always followed by honor; honor outlasts pride.

A really, really close view of just who hung on that cross and why will reveal that who we were in Adam wasn't much account no matter how "dressed up" we were. That cross still says that our nakedness and shame was before God's face. If that doesn't humble you, nothing will.
