Life Style Evangelism Only

What does the bible say about lifestyle evangelism vs. just telling about the gospel? I heard in church the other day that the "best" way to witness is by your example. I feel a more urgent need to get the gospel out before we are raptured out of here!

Some evangelize to those that have lifestyles
which Is deceiving, because lifestyles change.

The Gospel & serving God Is a way of life. God doesn't change.

I think that life-style evangelism is the prerequiste to actually speaking. If the lifestyle is not there, no one will listen to your words. Life-style evangelism though, is the bare minimum a Christian must do. Ray Comfort of way of the master says that he believes in friendship evangelism and can make a friend in three minutes and tell him the gospel!

How about both ways? Who says it needs to be one or the other?

ExSister-in-law made remark "if Darlene says it's in the Bible it's in there". She didn't mean I was so knowledgable but that I wouldn't tell it if it isn't in the Word. I never was preachy, but we had some good talks about the Word and being a Christian. She is saved and in church. Another lady was in honky tonks, not church. Later said I was the reason she was in church then, how I acted before her,my standards. She's not only saved but Preachers wife. Lifestyle does testify and lead to Christ.

And by this shall all men know that we are His disciples...It's not about perfection...we all sin and fall short...but it is about love...

Sometimes it is the best way. 1 Peter 3:1, "wives, be in subjection to your own husbands; that... they... may without the word be won by the conversation of the wives;"
NOTE: "conversation" is not about manner of speech. It is from the Greek anastrophe and means - manner of life, conduct, behaviour, deportment
Also Jesus said Matthew 5:16, "Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven."

Great point, John. Our lifestyles influence people but if you won't say something, you know, preach the good news directly, not many will really be converted. I myself wasn't converted by anybody's lifestyle. But through direct evangelism to my father, my entire family was saved.

I agree we need to do both and if we are truly led by His Spirit then His Light will be shining in us and our witness will be evident. I feel a sense of urgency now given the climate all around the world especially the Middle East. It may just be me but I feel like He is coming very soon.

Evangelism is defined as the preaching or promulgation of the gospel. Thus suggesting to make it known by open declaration or put the profession of the good news into effectual operation thru ones actions. Both is applicable & indispensable. However as we all know actions speaks a lot louder than words. There are those who believe none of what they hear & some & none of what they see, therefore a lifestyle that demonstrates a love for the Father & our fellow man will be that which reaches the heart.

I disagree with witnessing by our example. We are all human and faulty, and if the world is to look to us they will never get saved because none of us is perfect. Jesus' command is to "go, preach the gospel". We are to preach Christ crucified.

Sounds like the Holy Spirit is dealing with you. If so, he will not speak of lifestyle. But he will speak of your confession(to confess you need to use your mouth) about how others can be saved. They are not interested in the fact that you are saved, but they're vitally interested in how they can be saved. Send me your snail mail address and I will send you information. mima 3783

I believe that both are appropriate. There will be times when I see a person for only a short time, as on an airplane, and the Lord gives me a message for them. Yet, for the people I love and work with, my life has to be a living testimony to Him.
---Madison1101 on 9/21/06

Love your neighbor as yourself, that's lifestyle evangelism. But if no one says any thing you can be an angel and no one will get saved. Also, if you give them the Gospel with a mean, nasty lifestyle they won't get saved. I say have a good balance of both.

John-B, since Jesse Duplantis is an Evangelist, you might want to visit his website and get the "Merry heart doith good like Medicine" series. He has some of the most powerful testimonies of how he has witnessed to people on airplanes, in airports, at restaurants, anywhere and everywhere he goes, he tells people about Jesus and people from all over love him. He has the gift of Joy and you know as well as I do that Joy is contageous!!!!

The bible says, "This little light of mine, I'm gonna let it shine, let it shine, let it shine." Well it doesn't really say that, but "let your light shine amoung men so that they may see your good works."
There are many ways to witness. that is one of them. Another one is asking people, Do you want to meet my friend Jesus? He's so awesome and I know He loves you very much.
---Donna9759 on 9/21/06

Jesus did this very nicely. During His travels, He showed by his actions His witness. He fed the hungry, He healed the sick, He cast out the demons, no doubt He also clothed those without enough to wear. His witness went further. He preached the Good News of His Father in ways those listening could understand. We must do likewise.

I do believe that witnessing is a mix of both styles. A lifestyle, based on the word of God in the gospels and the messages of Paul, will proclaim your righteousness,(the example). We are also constrained to tell about the Good News of Jesus. How can people know, if they are not told.
---Margaretj on 9/21/06

Both serve their purposes, and have their impact. I believe that we are called to share the gospel, with those around us, and lifestyle is easiest.
What it does mean is that you have to live the life you claim.
---mike8384 on 9/21/06

John-B, We must do BOTH, but in some cases, people don't want to be "so-called" preached to, so you pray for them, and live out your testimony so they can see God's perfect work. But I tell you this, when God starts raining down judgment during the Great Tribulation Period, many will wish for that preaching "that they rejected" the rest will blaspheme God. Moses and Elijah [not Enoch] will be witnessing though for half of the Great Tribulation Period. God Bless. --Mrs. Morgan
