Why Fight The Culture

What scriptures tell us to battle the current culture we are in as Christians, like Jay Sekulow, James Dobson & D. James Kennedy? Why do these men, and others like them, feel it necessary to fight everything that offends them?

Well, if the culture is filled with wicked men it is a sin to look stupid, close your eyes, look away, let Satan take over and God's people let it happen. It should not be about us, it is about the true God. Just for the record all you true believers, you need to learn not to be easley offended. Also we are going to have to face God someday. Are you really obeying Him by allowing Satan to come in and take over our country the U S of America? I rest my CASE!

What offends them?. Try to be specific.

we need to not transform every culture to fit our cultural norms but transform cultures to God honoring Cultures. this is very possible look at Ireland, their history does not refect Rome even though they are largely Catholic but they have a unique form of catholicism. Just as Russian orthodox is different then Greek orthodox. and THe Friends and Minnonite cultures differ from other denominations. Take the beauty of the culture and point it to christ and remove the evil with love.

Culture is Beautiful. Don't fight it. Rather, be immersed in it...but not just one...explore many cultures. Diversity is the world's Rainbow!

---Reiter on 10/31/06

It is important to proclaim the standard - which is the Bible. The God of this world hates it, therefore the culture will hate it when we take a stand for what we believe to be right and true. Where would we be if Martin Luther King hadn't taken a stand... quite vocally, against the sins in this country toward people of color? It is right and good to do so - with compassion and integrity - even if we are mocked and derided for it.

We do not have to battle with culture, but to battle with ourselves for we are our worst enemy, this filthy flesh that we dwell in is our worst enemy. The world is not our enemy, it is the evil that dwells in this earth that is our enemy, and yet we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities....

=3= Jesus, said to "...Render therefore unto Caesar the things which are Caesar's; and unto God the things that are God's." Matthew 22:21
Couldnt this mean pay your taxes, as well as support the work of God. Do you think he meant for us to pay taxes and stop there? or are we to go further and fulfill the things citizenship requires? We need to stand against anything that infringes upon God's will.

Before we became Christians, we lived in, and for the flesh..for all things easy, expedient and pleasurable. We reflected our culture.
But when we were saved,Jesus began to live in us. He is offended by much the same sort of things that He spoke out so forcefully against at times, while he was on Earth. These public Christian figures may not get it exactly on target all the time, but I believe they intend to speak of the righteousness of Christ Who lives within them.

=2= 1 Tim. 2:1-42 "I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty." We are to pray for them, wouldnt we also want to help elect those who would promote "a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty."? cont.

All these responses and no scripture?
Ok, lets start with the fact that it is our God given duty to preach the truth and rebuke error as seen in verses such as: 1 Thess. 5:14; Eph. 5:11; 2 Tim. 4:2-4; Rev. 3:19
Next, we are responsible for our families (1 Timothy 5:8) and we are to protect them from harm... government decisions can harm our families.

Dottie: Since I am a liberal politically, I find it rabble rousing. Society sees the conservative Christians as more concerned about politics than the Gospel message of Jesus Christ.
---Madison1101 on 9/26/06

Madison1101, "rabble rousing?" To many people don't have the courage to stand up for what they believe. Jesus took a stand on the steps of the synagogue and stood up to the money changers. Should he have just waited for someone else? or just figured "it will be okay" ( that sounds liberal, doesn't it?) We are to have courage of our convictions. Stand up for what you believe in, or will you be one of those that would take Satan's mark, because you won't stand up against adversity?

While it is good to take a stand against things we know to be wrong, we should be certain our own hearts are right before trying to legislate "godliness" into others. We can't "make" people do right until we start doing right ourselves. The best way to do this is to hide the word of God in our hearts.

Let Us bless God for this wonderful country that we live in. These men are free to do whatever does not harm someone else. The first two named on your list appeared to desire notoriety, power and influence.

Because a responsible Christian [Minister or laity] tries to influence and change culture for the better when he/she can. Jay Sekulow, James Dobson & D. James Kennedy just don't sit on there buts lamenting about the problems of the world. They use their stature and rhetoric to implement social change.
I don't all way agree with them on all issues but at least they are trying to do something and that more then I can say about most Christians.

At Christmas last year, the work music system was playing a VC by an foul mouth, unpleasent comedian call Roy Chubby Brown. His routine was making me physically sick, and I went and asked for it to be turned off. Thankfully it was, though noone else in the office understood why I complained.
Maddison, what do you object to in their complaining, unless you find obscenity funny? We all have the ultimate censorship button, the on/off switch, maybe it should be used more often.

If they didn't fight everything that offended them, they would have nothing to talk about on their different shows on the air.

Actually, they would have something to talk about. They could talk about God's saving grace and actually teach scriptures instead of rabble rousing all the time.
---Madison1101 on 9/22/06

There are things that we are responsible to do something about when we can. Voting against abortion is something I do. I vote for things and against things. I base my decisions on things written in the word of God. I signed petitions for Israel to the United Nations. Why? Because God says He will bless those who bless Israel. If we knew what battles you were speaking of maybe we could give scriptures.
---Amy9384 on 9/22/06

Because they don't yet know that the battle has been won by One who didn't fight as the world fights. His victory still stands for those who will believe.
