Blotting Out Name From The Book

In Psalms 69:28 it speaks of blotting out the names of people in the book of the living. Are all names written in the book of life and than as they choose to deny Christ their name is blotted out?

I will combine what I learnt as a Catholic with what I learnt as a nonCatholic from the Bible. God wishes for everyone to be saved. He made Hell for Satan and his demons. It is possible for demons to enter people and influence or even possess them. It is possible for demonic people to deceive believers. It is possible to fall away from God's plans by sinning against ourselves, our neighbours, or God. If we do not have a relationship with God through Jesus (the Word of God) and that through reading the Bible, so that we understand what the relationship is based on, promises and warnings, then we will probably fall away from God's plan and have our names blotted out of the book of Life.

Revelation 3:5
HE that OVERCOMETH, the same shall be clothed in white raiment, and I WILL NOT BLOT OUT his name OUT of the book of life, bUT I WILL CONFESS his name before my Father, and before his angels.

Revelation 13:8
And ALL that dwell upon the earth shall worship him(the beast), whose names ARE NOT written IN the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.

Revelation 20:12
And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God, and THE BOOKS were opened: and another BOOK was opened, which IS the book of LIFE: and the dead were JUDGED out of those things which were written IN THE BOOKS, ACCORDING to their WORKS.

Good question. The Psalm says: 28 Let them be blotted out of the book of the living, and not be written with the righteous.
I don't know the answer, but as long as I am in there, I don't Actually I do care, I want my family and friends names in there too. As long as you're in there, praise God, Amen?

God is faithfull and he stated that if anyone believe and put their trust in his son they will not Perish but have eternal life. We are saved by faith alone not works. Our own faithfullness could never get our names written in the Book of life. It is God's faithfullness that gets our names written in the Book of Life. Those who loose faith in the atoning blood of Christ fall from grace and are no longer saved through grace because they are trusting in their ability to be perfect and never sin again.

We are amongst the great falling away. Jesus said not a few, not some, but many will be deceived. The Gospel shows that during the end times the majority of those who profess to be Christians won't make it to heaven. They choose to follow teachers who teach manmade doctrines that nullify the power of God's grace. Claiming God can't help you overcome sin and that sin can't seperate you from the love of God. It's a mockery and they will all have their part in the lake of fire unless they repent.

Rebecca; you are right but many have lost their fear of God. That spirit of antichrist tells people they are too good to fall or that they are once saved, always saved.

Why does a person seem to believe that a Christian cannot backslide and their name be blotted out of the book of life and go to hell? I know that a person can only get saved once, but that is not a license to sin. Just because I am saved, that doesn't mean that I can't fall from grace, and remove myself from God's hand.

Duane; I never said God stopped loving the backsliders. He will always love them. If they do not repent and come back to God, yes they will go to hell. Proof. Mt5:13, 12:43-45, Mk 4:1-8, 4:15-19, 9:49-50, Lu 9:59-62, 11:21-26, Jn 15:6-8, 1 Cor 10:1-13, 2 Cor 12:20-21, Ga 1:6-7, 4:6-11, 1 Tim 5:15, 6:10-21, 2 Tim 2:12, Heb 4:1-11, 6:4-8, 10:26-39, 11:14-15, 12:15, 2 Pe 1:4-9, 2:20-21, 2 Jn 1:8-9, Rev 2:4-21, 3:2-3, 21:8. If they repent and come back to God, yes they'll make it to heaven.

Rebbeca D
God heals our backsliding and loves us freely. (Hosea 14:4) To say a backslider wont make it to heaven is wrong.
We are the overcomers, we have imputed righteousness.

denying the book of life. does this insanity never end. John states bluntly in rev. "And the books were opened and the dead were judged from the things written there. Everyone is judged by their works in life. You cannot hide, you cannot run, you cannot deny what you have done in life. for sins you truly repent of and never commit again, they are blotted out. if you continue in your iniquity, all former sins remain with you because you never repented. Repentence means to turn from and never repeat.

Did you ever stop to think this might be a metaphor or figure?

Do you actually think there are books up in heaven? (Whether codices or scrolls need not concern us here.)
---Jack on 7/4/07

God knows the heart of each person, and he knows when one is sinceir with him. Mima; I know I fail God at times, but I know that he will forgive when I ask. But a backslider won't make it to heaven because they have lost their first love. Donna; God is awesome, but people turn to the world for help or drugs instead of Jesus, and that is where they fail.

Psalms 69: 28Let them be blotted out of the book of the living, and not be written with the righteous.
That says nothing about the righteous being blotted out.
---kathr4453 on 10/2/06

Once again, God is unchanging. If He records a name, it is VERY permanent. No one can pluck them from the Father's hand.
---mike on 10/2/06

God's people should know that as long as they Abide in Christ, their names will not be blotted out. God don't predestine peoples eternal fate, We are responsible for how we life our lives before God in this short span of time on earth. God's people should not live in fear, simply Trust and Obey the Lord. God Bless.

Rebecca D.-I know you will understand when I use the term "get the victory" but because your idea forces a person to stay saved by their own behavior, I'm wondering how you ever arrive at victory, always having the fear of falling in your mind.
---mima on 10/2/06

Rebecca D, I agree with mima. God would need a thousand Secretaries to help him keep track of all that erasing. Pre-destined means God knows the ones that are His, amen? If someone "backslides" he probably never belonged to God in the first place. How can one backslide if they really KNOW and LOVE Jesus? He's too awesome to turn your back on. Like the disciples said to Jesus, where would we go? You have the words of eternal life.
---Donna9759 on 10/2/06

We all know that a backslider won't make it to heaven, because their name won't be written down. In Rev 13:8, are people that dwell on the earth are the sinners, backsliders. In Ps 69 David is talking about when Jesus being crucified. Starting at vs 8.
---Rebecca_D on 10/1/06

(Webster's)Eternal. 1. Of infinite duration; everlasting. 2. Incessant; perpetual. If we as Christians are to have "eternal" life, how could we begin or end? Being a part of God is being part of an infinite being. You know, without beginning or end. In Psalms, read the entire thought. It says destroy the adversaries. This is not THE book of life.

Rebecca D. obviously God's eraser would have to be much bigger than the pencil, if what you say is true. Also God having all foreknowledge would have had to make a mistake when he first wrote down your name. Also if backsliding is a sin(and it is) then Jesus did not pay for that the sin of our backsliding at the cross. All the above raises serious doubts about your idea.
---mima on 9/30/06

Once a person comes to Christ, their name is added to the book. When they fall from God, (fall from Grace) and backslide their name is erased out of the book. And to get back to God one has to be convicted and repent of their sins and their names are added again. but we are the only ones can blot our names out of the book by not abiding in Christ.

Your suggestion is my understanding of this Scripture.
