I think the greatest evidence of a true Christian is humility(Proverbs 22:4). Humility is the opposite of Pride(Satan). A christian who has a repentant attitude towards their own sins and the sins of others is trully Saved (Acts 20:19). This is the reality of one who is under conviction of the Holy Spirit.

A christian is one who has faith in Christ as there saviour.
Believes in the work of the blood and resurrection. (Forgiveness of sin and life everlasting through JESUS)

The Bible gives the defintion of Christian in the Book of Acts: The disciples were first called Christians at Antioch.
Whether one of these disciples was profiting by Christ's teachings as much as he may wasn't considered.
Still less is Christian a term of approval or a mere synonym for "good."

To be a Christian is to be Christ like or like Christ. Which is to follow him and do as He did in love. For most the difficulty is John14:15 especially #4.The next big test is 1Th5:21 because not only does scripture prove truth, it also proves some are to this day still in captivity worshipping false idols.2 Cron 6:17. Jam4:7

Footnote... James 1:22. Dont just listen and like, work and do in love, remember you are doing it for your own eternal life.Ph2:12

John 3:16. Follow Jesus Christ. Be a Christian. NOTE key word is follow. It is easy for a woman to tell her friends she is pregnant. It is not necessary to tell anyone when the baby begins to show. Talk is cheap, witness a life in the growth process and it removes all doubt. IF people say they are Christians, look for the "pregnant glow".

Donna, you wrote " How do you get a person to examine themselves to show them they're not a Christian (Remember, they think and believe they are)." This is something that we are unable to do on our own. Only God can open their eyes and hearts. Pray for them and speak the word as you are led...allow God to work through you.

tom2, I believe we as believers in Christ Jesus have to make right choices every day, sometimes every hour. I work full time and spend my nights with the Lord. Most think I'm wierd for doing that rather than going out to happy hour or even watching lots of TV. I have 2 favorite shows and I don't feel fulfilled after watching them. We have to make choices in these last days before Jesus comes back and finds us empty and faithless. Amen?

The word tells us to examine ourselves. 1 Cor 11:28, 2 Cor 13;5. I believe we need to do this everyday. I know that I am saved, because Jesus abides in me and I in him. I know if someone is on fire for God or if their lukewarm or just plain cold, by the fruit that they bare.

Folks, thank you for your answers. I'm trying to let folks know who I witness to, who tell me they're already Christians, yet they are living in fornication, how can I tell them to examine themselves and they're not really a Christian in the true sense of the word. If you tell them to repent, they rebel and say they don't have to, etc., How do you get a person to examine themselves to show them they're not a Christian (Remember, they think and believe they are).

And this commandment have we from him, That he who loveth God love his brother also.
---Rev_Herb on 10/2/06

And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments.

If ye love me, keep my commandments.

He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.

A person could follow the instructions given three times in the Bible, Romans 10:13-Acts 2:21-and Joel 2:32 where Scripture states the following;" For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
