We do not win anyone over by adopting counterfeit religious beliefs.
That is deception and you may fall into the same deception.
If you don't care "how you're doing it", that again is not Scriptural or of God.
Jesus Christ did not win others by giving them false religion. There was no evil or sin in Jesus.
Keep your mind stayed on Jesus Christ's words. False words do not win someone over. It is of another spirit to use the false to reveal the authentic Gospel of Jesus Christ.
---Bigfoot on 1/30/08

Lies do not sound like the truth to me. They sound like lies no matter how they're told.
Let your yes be yes and your no be no.
If you cannot discern between truth and lies, I question if it is the Holy Spirit or an unholy spirit using someone.

Counterfeit anything is not of God.
A counterfeit witness for Jesus Christ does not lead them into truth, but into the broad door that leads to destruction.
---Bigfoot on 1/30/08

If you are grounded and rooted in Christ and your mind is made up who you want to serve, it is probably ok to read up on other religions. It is no harm in being able to discuss and relate to others who believe differently. Who knows? Since you are knowledgeable in a certain religion, you may be able to win someone from that religion,over to Christ. Does not matter how we win them over. Christ died for us all. Persons who believe differently may just need someone to lead them in the rght direction.
---Robyn on 1/29/08

Reading and studying other religions is not wrong. I don't think. Being persuaded in the wrong teachings and doctrines is wrong. Someones whose faith is very little should wait untl they are more ground and rooted in Christ before opening themselves up to studying other religions.They may be persuaded and become confused by what they read and study upon. Lies can sound like the truth,sometimes.

How has your personal life changed since you unwisely began searching into other religions?

Mackey asked me, how did you know that so and so's ministry was falling. Not by my head, not by IQ, not by man's power, not by might but by God's Spirit.
---Bigfoot on 1/29/08

A word to the wise.

Only a very strong Christian with great spiritual protection from God can go through indoctrination into false religions and come out unscathed.

Inviting a lot of trouble in your life, ungodly trouble. Even Christians with sound minds have fallen by indoctrinating themselves with false religious beliefs.
---Bigfoot on 1/29/08

For the impressionable, I feel that you are placing yourself in a very dangerous position, spiritually. By studying all these other religions you are opening your mind to satan. I am not telling not to investigate other religions if you are so disposed to do. Since ALL other religions are of satan (for, they are not of God, so who else is there), that you are opening yourself up to evil spirits. Look at how confused many have become. That is not of God.
---Bigfoot on 1/28/08

If you keep dabbling in false religions you're going to end up in one of them, if you're not careful. Or, you will begin to doubt Christianity.

Why would you study these other religions if you are a Christian? If married, my spouse wouldn't want me trying out other spouses. Well, our God, the only true God, is a jealous God.
---Bigfoot on 1/28/08

A word to the wise.

Only a very strong Christian with great spiritual protection from God can go through indoctrination into false religions and come out unscathed.

Seems to me that many are inviting a lot of trouble in your life.

How has your personal life changed since you unwisely began searching into other religions?
---Bigfoot on 1/28/08

For, if you're open to it, then satan will throw all kinds of evil people into your path with "wisdom" (evil wisdom). And when you are interested in "investigating" other forms of religion, you are open for it.

Do you think that satan won't let you destroy yourself with his deception?
Think again, did not satan deceive Eve?
---Bigfoot on 1/28/08

Jesus wasn't play-preaching or role playing He was speaking of eternal life and the only doorway into it.
If you keep toying with forbidden fruit, you just might take a bite (remember Eve). There are very real spirits in these other religions, and people do feel a spiritual presence in these false gods and false religions but they cannot discern that it is an evil spiritual presence. Not all evil acts evil openly, you know.
---Bigfoot on 1/28/08

Laure, it is better to study your own faith until you are mature in it's essentials before you can be able to witness to Muslim's or any other religion. "If you are one who believes you lose your salvation, and that you get saved by works of obedience and not faith in Jesus Christ sacrifice, you will be the next victim." The reason is they believe those matters as truths. You will begin to agree with what they teach. And soon you will be here answering for them why they are right.
---Mark_V. on 1/6/08

Donna9759, Muslim and non-trinity christians believe that Jesus is a Messiah too but not as the son of God.

All of this confirms without doubt the writers of the Old Testament and the New Testament were definitely on the lookout for a Messiah or 'Chosen Leader'.

The word in Hebrew for the 'chosen one' or 'anointed one' or 'appointed one' is Messiah.
The word in Koine Greek for Messiah is 'Christos' (became Christ).
The word in Arabic for Messiah is Meshiha
---Sheila on 1/4/08

Laure, You must be very careful here. If you are not rooted and grounded in the Lord Jesus Christ, then it is not for you. Jesus is the way the TRUTH and the life. Anything else is a lie.
When I first got saved my Pastor gave me this very good advice. And once your established in Christ, like the moderator said, you might be able to use the information to better witness to others of false religions.
If your still searching for the truth outside Jesus Christ, you will never find it.
---John on 5/23/07

I was raised fundamentalist. They had list of books not to read, many of these were of other religions. My atitude was, "What are they afraid of? Every book on the list I read. They were afraid of ideas, and they were afraid of the individual human mind. True faith has NO FEAR of belifs of others. It is only a shallow faith that fears the academic study of others religions, beliefs.

I was looking at some old Jewish texts last night on the web. There was a discussion about Christians hiding behind Jesus Christ, and how we even claim He is God. I read some of their threads, but after awhile, I cut it off. We are what we eat. One Christian was trying to enter the discussions. The administrator told one that if they were unable to hold to the scholarly discussion, move on. If the CN Moderator told those who were not Christian to move on, how many would be left?

What the moderator saids is true I guess. But it is not for me. I do not want to be side tracked. We do need to be careful, some have lost their faith.

A little poison is still poison. You do not need to study these false Religious Doctrines in order to witness to them .The Holy Spirit can tell you all you need to know and what to say. It is a deceitful snare of the enemy to get you to study error.
---Tsuanne on 5/21/07

I have read many sections of the Qu'ran and visited numerous Muslim and Jewish websites. I have also visited JW site. I have opted to not read the Book of Mormon or the New World Translation as a body, because I do not wish to contaminate my knowledge of Christian scripture, although I do check sections for comparison only. These are useful for witnessing purposes because the more I know about them the easier it is to explain Christianity to them.
---lorra8574 on 5/21/07

I would warn that it is not a good idea to look at other religions unless you are firmly grounded in your own faith and rock solid in the Bible first.

I feel there is nothing wrong with learning about other faiths but what I have seen on this site is: we all need to concentrate on our own faith, Christianity. From observation and that includes, myself. There are basic christian values, discipliness, beliefs we should know and we don't. We as believers should have more in common, than we do. It does not matter what our denominations are. If we do not embrace Jesus as our Lord and Savior, we are lost. There ain't no more, folks.
---Robyn on 5/21/07

Rather than wrong it is in fact very good to study other religions in order that we might know what other religions believe. When I was in school taking Old Testament I did not understand why I should know what other religions believe. Today I count it a blessing that an old Jewish scholar insisted we study and understand the Islamic book the Koran.
---mima on 5/21/07

Leslie, Jesus said in Mat28 Go ye therefore into all the world preaching and teaching etc. He didnt say just go to the sdas, catholics etc only..but the world. Jesus dined with thieves etc..How do u witness to those whom u want to go see if u dont fellowship with them? I now n agains visit a Presbytarian church and witnessed and got one out of them, she in return got many lmore to join the sda church by knowing truth.
---jana on 1/7/07

If you do this to know what other religions believe to better witness to them than NO. If you do this to get into this religion than YES.

If your motive is to get to know them and love them as Jesus said we do, then it should be ok. We christians are so critical of such issue when all someone want is to love others in other churches. If you love Christ, then it should not be an issue as u would be firmly rooted in your own belief. Love should be the motivating factor in such move. Love one another friends, stop attacking each other.2often we criticize, insult and attack. thats not of lGod.

Candice: "I've studied with the witnesses over 3 yrs"

I studied with them for a year. Good people.
---augua9846 on 1/6/07

Candice, here is an example:

1 John 3:16 (KJV)-"Hereby perceive we the love OF GOD, because HE laid down HIS LIFE for us.."

1 John 3:16 (NWT)-"16 By this we have come to know love, because that one surrendered his soul for us.."
---Kay on 1/5/07

Candice, I've been studying JW's for many years. I have friends and family members who are part of the organization. The NWT does in fact alter the message of the Bible. It denies that Jesus is God our Creator by making Him a created being. Many passages of the Bible regarding Jesus' divinity have been altered to line up with the organizations teachings.

Hello Candice, I wanted to say one thing on the subject of the New World Translation. The subject that is critical to all of us is the subject of Jesus Christ. Which is what we hold so dearly that is different then what the witnesses teach. When the words are changed in John 1:1-3, it completely changes His sovereign nature of infinite to a created being. The message is not the same and makes Christ a created little god, Not God.
---lisa on 1/2/07

2. Once that message is received by the followers, he becomes a created being yet with power, the very reason many on line believe that He is a created being. Which He is not. How can they do it? They just can, and even though they try to witness with other bibles, the message is still the same. A different Jesus. Not the One of Scripture. So the whole message is twisted. Now I know that you are a good person so I assume you only see the goodness, I do too, see a lot of good in all Jehovah Witnesses.
---lisa on 1/2/07

When you said the Jw's "add"& "take"away from the bible, though some words do differ the message itself remains the same. I've studied with the witnesses over 3 yrs, I also have other bibles that change the wording ,but the message is still the same.I have the KJV &Living translation,& NWT & all give me the same message.
---candice on 1/1/07

I don't believe it is wrong when you are led by the Holy Spirit to learn what others teach for the purpose of witnessing to others. Many are not led to do that and should not. Others may find many answers that can help us understand what others teach so that we can see the difference in their beliefs'. How can anyone witness to or discuss other faiths if we don't know what they teach to begin with? We should do it with much caution.

No, not wrong! Jesus never said I had to be right about every doctrinal question or cultural taboo. He encouraged understanding, no checking in our brains at the church door. The unquestioned faith is no faith at all, just blind following. How can we choose Christ when there are no other choices? You don't ask a Ford dealer what is the best car!
---Charles on 12/29/06

An exhaustive study of the bible with the intent of understanding it's depths would take this lifetime & beyond. What would be the point of reading "the holy books of other religions" when we have the living Word of God to meditate upon? Unless of course you are unsure whether or not the bible is the inspired word of God, in that case I see nothing wrong with other studies. Chances are they will lead you right back to the bible if they are at all inspired of the Father.
---Josef on 12/29/06

No it is not, if you would read you would see that most all religions are seeking God. God is not owned by anyone, anyone that seeks him can be saved. But the traditions of men, to keep there place, deceive many. Read Jn 3:14-18

With regards to truth being found in any religion -

Of course there is going to be an ELEMENT of truth in each religion, but that element has been twisted and perverted, so that it is no longer the truth. Only the Bible has not been corrupted.
---laure5759 on 10/31/06

Reiter: "Truth can be found in any religion."

There was a time when truth was based on fact and Christianity was truth (Webster's Dictionary 1832). Today, truth is defined as anything a person believes (Webster's Dictionary 2006). My, how times have changed, eh?

The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul;
The testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple;
The statutes of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart;
The commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes;
The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever;
The judgments of the Lord are true and righteous altogether.
More to be desired are they than gold, than much fine gold;
By them Your servant is warned, and in keeping them there is great reward. Rachel^^^

The Divine Love gospel. All gospels, doctrines, religious beliefs meld together. With divine love all negativity is overcome. No argumentative stands, love rules. No fiery trials. We are divine in nature. I am so humble and meek. I'm starving to death, but I meditate while lying in a dirty street. My meditation will not bring me a meal to eat, but I am divine. I love, and visualize love for the world.

"Religion offers many Paths."

Reiter, so does Satan.There is only ONE path to everlasting life(John 14;6-7; 10:1).

"Christianity is not the one true religion."

Christianity isn't a religion; its a personal relationship with the Almighty God.

"Truth can be found in any religion."

I STRONGLY disagree with you. Jesus Christ said ,"I am THE WAY, THE TRUTH, and THE LIFE. (Jn.14:6-7)We are to worship God in spirit and IN TRUTH (Jn.4:24)

If your stability is in Jesus Christ, it's alright. When I was a new Christian, it was right for me to throw everything contrary to the Word in the garbage. I've examined other religious material from the Library, taken some classes. I have not purchased any specific 'holy' books for my reference.

Sam, in answer to your question - I'm trying to find out what other people think. Years ago I've read quite a bit about other belief systems and religions - usually from a neutral or Christian source. I don't so much anymore, because they usually make me very angry because of the lies they teach. Of course, one needs to know what one believes to try to do this.

I agree with Tommy. We must be firmly grounded in the Truth before we consider studying other religions.
---Kay on 10/30/06

I think it's good to know what they believe about Jesus. Most false religions don't believe He's the Messiah, nor the Son of God. That's the focal point of our belief, who Jesus is, what Jesus has done for us, what the shed blood of calvary means, etc., Find out what other religions believe about this stuff so you have a better idea of how to witness to them. Know the word too. If you know truth, you'll hear untruths when they say it.

It is important to know where people are coming from to reach out to them. Paul did this when he went to Athens. Reading other "holy" books is ok but only if you are founded in your own faith, and should be done under caution. But from my experience trying to understand others is always benifital.

I agree with emg. Study from an objective source or a Christian source. The literature religious people provide is aimed at converting you. In these days an understanding of other Faiths is very important. Our national future has been irreversibly affected by Islam! Eastern Religions, esp. Buddism, are the basis of New Age sects and Humanism. We dare not ingnore these beliefs. We must comprehend how Christianity differs from these.

I have studies the beliefs of J.W.s, and Mormons. I did this from books I bought, not from studying with them. If I hadn't done so I would never have understood how much their beliefs differ from those of a Christian because they both tell us that they believe the bible. What they don't tell you is that they add, take away or change what the bible says. We should not remain ignorant regarding the beliefs of others.
