Rangel does not want the draft. He is just saying this to try to undermine the war in Irag. He is trying to make Pres. Bush look bad. He also said that only black people were force to go to war. ? I see plenty of white folks in the Miliary.
No one is force to go to war. My father was drafted from Puerto Rico. He went to war and stayed in the Army for 20 years. He could have gotten out, but he didn't.
My brother joined the Army of his own.
He joined during the first Gulf war.
He is still active in the Army.

We don't issue uniforms to make them look pretty. We don't issue guns just because the sun is up. They don't have war drills and exercises for the fun of it.

If anyone joins the Military or Guards and claims they were tricked into warfare- Well, maybe they thought they joined the Scouts.
Trust me, I am Black and Rangal is making this a 'Black thing issue'.

"Was Ronald Reagan too old? My opinion is that two of the these three would make the best ticket. John McCain....." "Jack"
"I don't really see how this is a Christian issue as such, can you explain?" "Jack"

I don't really see how this is a Christian issue as such. Can you explain?
---Jack on 10/14/07

If Rangel does get us with another draft, I hope he goes first. After what he said, "Who the hell wants to live in Mississippi?" Then his remark about bringing a food tester with him if he comes to visit. I do not care for the man. My Dad was WWII in the South Pacific. Loved the military. I've never known a draftee, only those who chose to serve their country.

Jared in the past 15 years I have helped recruit. Does that tell you anything? I know what Recruiters do and what they are allowed to do.
I also see that you said your were deaf now you say you would have passed the hearing physical. So which is it?
Our country needs support soldiers that never see combat. A very low percentage actually get involved with actual killing and fighting.
To not serve you have leaned on your health and religion but I wonder the real reason why.
---Elder on 12/15/06

I dont think Jared is any less an American because he does not believe in the draft. I think he said he comes from a Quaker background, the Mennonite, Amish and many more do not believe in ever killing as we learned from the recent Amish school deaths. The men in my family all have military backgrounds and I thank the young solders male/female of today- but I also do not support a draft. That may change as peoples views can and do but I have to be honest as a Christian and no I do not support a draft.
---Jeanne on 12/11/06

Elder have you been visited by a recuiter in the past 15 years? if not you do not know how they do things. My High school counsoler told me to take a test that would help me decide what I wanted to do in College. it was a test used for military recuiting. I scored high and they wanted me to join. I told them every meeting I was deaf yet they kept calling me out of class. It wasn't so much that I wanted to talk to them (although skiping class was nice) it was that they wanted me.
---Jared on 12/11/06

Yes at times I thought it sounded pretty good, so I'd ask "could i do that with a hearing impairment" and they wouldn't give me a clear answer, telling me that they would only know after the physical. I didn't get the physical, because my doctor used to give them and he said that I would pass because of my ears.
---Jared on 12/11/06

I don't think God likes war, I think it goes against the NEW TESTAMENT, But I also think God allows war because we are stuborn people. There can be good things that happen because of war, but those are done not because they were overpowered but because the people have relized some truth about things. True I don't like everything about our country, I have the rights not too, like everyone else. Rights give by God not by man.
---Jared on 12/11/06

I do think we are taxed too much If you don't think so look at your paycheck some time and see how much is being withheld. There are other options but sometimes we are so intrenched in our own ways we can't see them. This is the same in every country which is why war still happens but the Truth can set us free.
---Jared on 12/11/06

And if you read the Old Testament Closely they didn't kill everyone only those that did not join God. there were many that joined with Israel, like Rahab. The gospel can change lives, and the gospel is more powerful than any army.

Elder, First, thank you for helping me and my family & friends to be free, second: I know I could have stopped those recruters, but I left it up to my son to choose. I told my son I hated war and anything to do with it and I wish the world would figure out another way, but left the final decision up to him.

It appears that you are angry that they stopped visiting you...humm. Wonder what your motivation was.
You must have had a (Free) Military physical that revealed your hearing loss. (Something else for nothing.)
You complain that the Tax system in the USSR and Russia is more to your liking, well, then please take advantage of my free ticket offer to which ever place you want to move to. (Nah, I didn't think you would. It's better here already ain't it?)
---Elder on 12/9/06

Jared it is hard for me to believe that Recruiters visited you everyday (really?) for a year and didn't know you were hearing impaired.
You were getting something out of the visits that gave you pleasure or you would not have allowed them to continue. Sue and you both could have stopped them at anytime.

It is so true that Freedom has a flavor that the protected will never know.
And I am proud that people like Jared have the right and freedom to complain against our Government with no fear because that Freedom was bought on the backs of others from the 1700s till now.
I was not alone for my brothers and sisters that served before, after and with me were there also.

My wife has set at home and heard the news that the 82nd had been deployed into combat and she not knowing where I was at for all Commo out is shut down, together for months only by prayer and pen and ink with some letters being read by someone else before they can go out.
The worst thing that ever happened to me was that I had to stop serving because of my severe health due to my colon rupturing.
And now your complement, encouragement and poem warms my heart.

I've been in bullet riddled airplanes in Viet Nam, came in from the field to find no chow available, ate food with sand, dirt and rain water in it and drank coffee you could strip floor wax off with. I've searched for a static free phone call home and to vision a loved one's voice almost as good as being there.

Jared: You can hear the stories or read the books and articles about men and women who served in the military, but you must experience it yourself to really get the true feeling.

"War is not the only way to make peace" If God couldn't prevent war in the old testament, how do you suppose man can find another way? Remember, we are fighting against people who are the pawns of Satan just like all the other leaders in the past in the name of conquest.

A Different Christmas Poem

It's my duty to stand at the front of the line,
That separates you from the darkest of times.
No one had to beg or implore me,
I'm proud to stand here like my fathers before me.

My dad stood his watch in the jungles of Nam,
And now it's my turn, so here I am.
I've not seen my own son in more than a while,
My wife sends me pictures, he sure has her smile.

Away from my family, my house and my home,
I stand at my post, cold and alone.
---Rachel on 12/8/06

I carry the weight of killing another,
Or lay down my life with my sister and brother...
Who stands at the front against any and all,
To ensure for all time this flag will not fall.
So go back inside, harbor no fright
My family is waiting, I'll be alright.

Just tell us you love us, and never forget
We fight for your rights, hold no regret
Our life is payment, with that we will trust
That we mattered to you , as you mattered to us.

elder you are quite funny. I was advicating work for the money not draft. you dont' have to have welfare you can get a job. I think i know a little about the military since i have friends and family that are in it (some drafted some actually vollenteered) Yes the recruiters called everyday for one year until they found out I had a hearing problem. why are you questioning this (they actually made me late to a school funtion once.)

as far as school is concerned I grew up in a very rural community there were only 3 options for school. 2 public schools in driving distance and home school. I went to the public school that we were not in the district for so my parents had to pay the difference. My mom would have home schooled but she had to work outside the home. so no I didn't really have a choice.

and I have taken a stand against evil. I am a pastor, I went on mission trip to Ukraine. I support ministries in Nepal, india, Africa and the middle east. War is not the only way to make peace it is, just one of the quickest, meaning it may take generations to reeducate cultures (like USA and Racism) But Christians did it in Rome they can do it today too.
---Jared on 12/7/06

Jared I think you say the things you do hoping someone will jump on the wagon with you.
You know nothing of military service. I was trained to save lives not kill. I speak to active duty soldiers almost every week. Of the ones wounded in this present war each one I have spoke to wants to get back to their duty because they are making a difference.

Jared you advocated a draft in your 12/6/06 statement about Welfare reform. Yea, that's right your view is that of FORCED LABOR.
I like your joke about not wanting to serve then you are angry because Recruiters stopped calling you when they found out you were deaf. They approached you "every day?" I don't think so.
Did you volunteer for school or were you "forced/drafted?" Why yes, I understand that was you getting something that you wanted at someone elses expence also.

Friends and Family Forum, our country is in a dangerous time now and for years to come. I have been involved in things with the Dept. of Military Affairs in my State that prove to me that people with the attitude of Jared do as much harm to our military members and Country security as any enemy bullet can.
There is more than just this foreign war that is going to be brought to our door steps in the near future.
---Elder on 12/7/06

Jared: Have you served in the military? The first couple of months, each man is trained to obey his superiors. If a man cannot obey his superiors, how do you think he will obey God?

"there are other ways to teach a child to be obedient" Since World War II, parents have lost control of their children. It's even harder now to teach children obediance because laws are protecting the children from parental discipline.

3 months should be enough time to find adiquate work. The unemployment check is less than what you'd make at walmart. Work is work.
---Jared on 12/7/06

yeah taxes come out of our checks to go to social security and Medicare/caid Welfare is out of the Income tax. But wouldn't it be nice to get all the money we work for instead of sending it to Washington. Wouldn't it be nice if pastors could preach the gospel without fear of the IRS coming in to shut them down? the tax system is messed up and need changed. We pay today more taxes than USSR paid in all their existance as a communist state and right now Russia pays less taxes than the USA.
---Jared on 12/7/06

isn't that sad? But with an inclusive sales tax of 13% we would be able to support all current gov't programs and increase the wages of everyone that works. it's called the fair tax. Pay for consumption not success. pay as you go not when you earn.

do you really think the draft is teaching kids to be obedient? It is evil, it isn't good. Forcing people to kill others "for their Country" is not right no matter how you look at it. there are other ways to teach a child to be obedient, and to love their country. and no the comand is kill not murder, because it includes neglect and accident to it is to teach us to protect the lives around us.

Jared we are beginning to think alike.
You said you considered military duty for what you could get not for what you could contribute.
During the draft years there was less crime and more disciplined people. Check it out.
The greatest asset this country has is its Soldiers.
Freedom of speech, right to assemble, freedom of the press and all of the others came on the back of the US Soldier and their sacrifice. Can you deny that?
And you contributed what?

"It's against my religion" is a copout from doing your duty to God and the country. Throughout the Bible and even up to this day, God has used men in combat. Probably because the "thou shalt not kill" is, in fact, "Thou shalt not murder." Which is a horse of a different color.

Besides, our kids today need to learn obediance and having the draft will instill what is needed to train to Obey God.
---Steveng on 12/6/06

tell me elder what student in the past 10-15 years didn't at least consider the military? I had them calling me and taking me out of class every day in Highschool. The scholorship sounds nice especially when I didn't have any money to go to college with, those calls all stopped when they found out I was deaf. I considered it for the $ not for duty. I would not go into Combat either way for my religious beliefs. Draft and enlistment are 2 very different things.
---Jared on 12/6/06

by the way I don't like our tax system either. I am doing all I can to get it changed. the Idea of punishing people for their financial success to give money to people that refuse to work is very unchristian. I support the Fair Tax Plan that taxes consumption of Goods and services not the income of people that work.
---Jared on 12/6/06

My views of Welfare reform are even better. I think we should allow people to live 3 months on welfare and then if they don't work then they need to go out and clean out every landfill in the USA seperating the recyclable items. They work 4 days and have 1 day to find a better Job. those that are able should work.

---sue on 12/6/06

Jared you are forced to pay taxes, light bills, almost 3 dollars a gallon for gas.
You claim you could not qualify for military service and then whine about the draft.
Since you brought WW II into this did you know the US Army only had 136,000 active duty members when the war started.
I have worked civilian jobs far more dangerous than when I was in a combat zones but what I did was for my country and people like you.

My family have been Quakers since Quakers have been in the USA and they are very patrotic, yet when it comes to Draft we are considered Nazis, Communist, Liberals, and many other things. But the truth be told we are Americans and we love our country and sometimes our country needs objectors to help keep war to a minimal. imagine if there were no objectors if someone made us mad we would go right in. does that sound like something from the past (say USSR)

why did I have the last word in this blog. it's almost unnerving.

Does anyone else not support drafts or am I the only one? I guess it doesn't really matter. I seriously doubt there will be a draft in the near future. But it is a constitutional right to object to forced service.
---Jared on 12/5/06

Elder, I tried to enter the army or navy to be a chaplin, but could not serve because I was deaf. I object to the draft because of my beliefs. I would only serve as non combat. Our military is stronger then it was in WWII simply because we don't have the draft. the draft is counter productive. If someone whats to serve or feels led to serve that is one thing but being forced is not right.
---Jared on 11/28/06

Jared first you say you can't serve because of your religion now it is because you are deaf, which is it.
There are many areas of military service that have nothing to do with combat. People like you could serve as a Chaplain.
Korea and Viet Nam were not lost there. They were lost here.
BTW this war will be fought. When it is on your door step you will see. WWII was won because everyone at home and abroad fought to win it. Now every punk with a firecracker wants to attack the ol' softies.

Elder: I support the war in Afghanistan and would proudly encourage my sons to sign up for it, if we were not also in Iraq. The Iraq war is the reason I would take them to Canada, not war in general. WWI and WWII were just wars, and we were fighting for our freedoms. Iraq is not a just war, and as such, I will not support it, or offer my children in sacrifice for it.

Part 2 of my reply--lol :D I just wanted to say, I put a flag on my Christmas tree every year since 9/11. Veterans, whether the war is right or wrong, should be respected and honored and they defend our way of life--including the right to celebrate Christmas as we choose. GOD BLESS VETS! :)
---Mary on 11/26/06

I think we should have "mandatory" military service for ALL over 18 years of age, not just a draft. If everyone had to defend their rights, as well as the rights of others, we could be a better nation than what we have now. Only God can save us from ourselves, though, so we should fall on our knees and repent so that God would restore our nation. We aren't promised the restoration given to Israel in 2 Chronicles 7:14, but, we all know that any nation that turns from God is condemned.
---tommy3007 on 11/26/06

Randy, thank you for your investment. In your opinion, is military service the only means of investing in our country or are there other ways?
---AlwaysOn on 11/22/06

For those that have invested in our Country, the sacrifice can be great. My Dad, DAV, served in two branches of the military. If the draft is reinstated, perspectives will change. It's a blessing to have a father, uncle, brother, nephew, son, husband,... Our troops need all the prayers we can send for protection, alertness, discernment, God's wisdom for every situation, and peace in their hearts. Pray for our military and their families to be shielded under the wings of the Almighty. Rachel***
---Rachel on 11/21/06

The point is that bush speaks freely about sacrifice but he and his base have sacrificed little. I think to be fair people of all backgrounds should be made available to serve. I think there is only one member of congress with a child in the Iraq. I think people would pay more attention if they were or their child was eligible to be sent to Iraq. I joined the Army when I was 17 during Viet Nam and have spent my life in public service. Few Americans have any real investment in this country.
