God Let Job Get Tortured

I'm reading about a man named Job and how God let the devil torture him even though he was a man who loved God dearly. Why did God let this happen to him? Why did God think he had to 'prove' anything to satan?

I think it was for the rest of us so we could learn from it. And don't foget to read the last chapter. That's when Job gets double back what he lost. So God isn't so bad after all when you look at the whole picture.

The Prayer of Job shows that no matter what God put him through that he still loved God.

Josef: that was a nice speech and you may be the exception to the rule, but let's get back to reality. 99% of the Christians could not cope with being homeless. I presently know a few senior "christians," church going christians for over forty years, who are now cursing God for their problems: one lost an eye, one losing her home, and a few others having severe medical problems. I also work with the homeless on a daily basis. I truly understand their situation.

Steveng any man that recognizes & embraces the indwelling presence of the Father & has freed his mind to receive His inspiration as a child that trust his parent, will know thru their love of God all things work together for good. I was at this place you refer to before I came to any true knowledge of God, yet I can say with all praises to the Father, I never thought of cursing God & dying. People experience that life everyday & most I have met will proclaim God bless you for any gratuity given them.

The Father allow Job to experience the things he experienced for his growth & understanding. Satan is an accuser looking to condemn all who place their trust in God. He is used of the Father to bring up & out of us all that is within for our examination. Giving us opportunities for true repentance which will always lead to reformation & a deeper understanding of ourself, our priorities & our relationship with Him. Job was provide an education, that now serves to educate us during our time of hardship.

We are anointed for spiritual growth, and with growth comes pain. Through the hardships of life we recognize that in all we go through the Father makes a way for us to stand. Thru the pains of the trials of life, the mental, physical, emotional stress & duress that arises out of a sense of pressure that sometimes overwhelms us during unpleasant & sometimes dare situations or circumstances we are strengthened. For the Fathers strength consummates our character during & thru our weakness.

In every storm engulfed in darkness there is illumination, insight & awareness that is brought to light by the turbulence of the storm itself. The mental, physical and/or emotional duress brought about by the storm once recognized & acknowledged as vain & futile can be calmed simply be speaking that awareness. With the darkness recognized for what it is, light will be revealed. That light was revealed to Job. Lay your cares upon the LORD for He cares for you. Loss is an illusion concerning the righteous.

Don't answer this question. The answer is deep within your heart.

Could you truly survive as a homeless person? Can you really experience finding a warm place to sleep each night? Would you stay strong in the Lord or would you curse Him if you were in Job's shoes? Most of you, of course, will answer, "I will be strong." It's easy for you to say with your mouth only because you are not really in Job's position. But if worse came to worse, most of you would surely curse God.

Don't get me wrong, specially you Mrs Morgan.
If I could measure at least up to Job's ankles
it would be quite a lot. Nevertheless, by Job's
own admission: Job 42:5: "I have heard of thee
by the hearing of the ear: but now mine eye
seeth thee." Meaning that he got a first hand
knowledge of the God he served.

From Job 38:1: "Then the LORD answered Job out
of the whirlwind, and said,", God is speaking
to Job and he teaches him about Pride and about
His Power. That lesson is for all of us and we
should note that Jesus killed any wisper of
Pride in himself. See Philippians 2:5: "Let this
mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:"
Please see Philippians 2. God Bless!

I think you are missing the point a little and seeing Satans side. God said Job was perfect the Devil said he wasn't because he could see Job's pride as you do but God did not because he had found Grace with God. The world always takes the devils side and finds fault as they did with Jesus but God said he was perfect even though he broke their sabbath and being a man blasphemed by making himself equal with God. It,s about what God say's not man or the devil. If God says up is down you better believe it.

If Faith (1 Peter 1:7), Works and Motivations (Revelation 3:8) isn't TRIED by God Himself (Revelation 3:18), By His Word/His Truth, Where's the PROOF/Evidence that it is good or not? That it is of Him or Not? God Bless!
---Mrs._Morgan on 12/21/06

"And the LORD said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil?"(Job 1:8). God Bless!
---Mrs._Morgan on 12/21/06

(II.) It was Job's friends that were full of pride(they were FALSELY accusing a TRUE child of God, not a lukewarm person in error, or a hypocrite BTW, with UNFOUNDED accusations, like I have witnessed on different blogs),GOD'S ANGER WAS KINDLED AGAINST THEM, and if it wasn't for brother Job praying for them, the Lord might of stuck them.....
---Mrs._Morgan on 12/21/06

(III.)...they later repented.Job's friends was trying in vain to find fault in Job, They were not trying to counsel him, or help him with faults,No, Because God even said the man was perfect and UPRIGHT,They had OTHER intentions(to belittle him),God was disgusted by that,KNOWING THEIR TRUE HEART AND INTENTIONS,Seeing that it was corrupt, they were falsely accusing him ,Just like satan was doing,God said said mark the perfect man, because the END of that man is PEACE(Psalm 37:37). Amen! God Bless!
---Mrs._Morgan on 12/21/06

What would Jesus say of Job's parable
in Job 29? There was certainly an issue
with [[[ Pride ]]], and in order for God
to teach Job he allowed all that befell on

God has faith in those faithful to Him. God has faith in the promises and word that He sent to mankind.

i see a comparison: God had no fear of satans doing harm to Job. yet Job feared for his children. that put a hole in the hedge.
but he never said, "why me, what wrong did i do God?".. so far that he refused to acknowledge guilt, as his "comforters" thought that he should.

God never promised that we'd not get tested. and we are to learn from the testing of others.

sue, God gives you a circumsized heart. With your submission He will turn you into a new creation, including a renewd mind. It is not the mind of God that questions God's sovereignty it is the mind of the flesh that questions God. The mind of flesh, that questions God, is not the mind He gives you. Even Job, when being tortured, did not question God.
---Ryan on 12/17/06

"....I question things because I have a mind. That God gave me. I cant help it." --I enjoy asking Questions and RECIEVING ANSWERS from the Lord. One must first ask before they can receive. There's no such thing as a stupid questions as long as the question is asked by a honest-hearted person. God Bless!
---Mrs._Morgan on 12/17/06

Ryan, I question things because I have a mind. That God gave me. I cant help it. I cant just follow things that make no sense to me. SO I ask questions hoping somebody with a mind more understanding than mine will help me.

" Why did God think he had to 'prove' anything to satan?" --No, God don't have to prove anything to satan, His Truth just forever shoots down satans lies. God's peoples faith is tested/tried by trials, some fiery. God knows if He is truly being put first in a persons life or not,He test's that faith, tests if one will or will not deny Him or disobey Him under adverse circumstances. Job,Abraham and other's passed the test, We must too, DAILY. God Bless!(1 Corinthians 10:13)

I would have to agree that the premise of Job is not very clear. The big picture for me is not that Job gets double what he had. But that GOD felt he had to prove something to Lucifer. My mind can't absorb that.
---Christian on 12/17/06

FAITH is a difficult process. It's right up there with FEAR (respect). God loved Job enough to know Job had faith in Him. Job feared God and had faith in Him above those things in the world. Too many of us lack that faith to know God replaces what He takes. He chastens those He loves. We are the clay, He is the potter. If we can get past the flesh we can see God.

I wish more people were more sympathetic to Job's wife; yes, she said something she shouldn't have--no doubt. But how many of us could lose all of our children, watch our husband dying, and do so with grace? I pity his wife; she didn't have it easy either :/

greetings. Is it that Our Father sends hit men to do his dirty work? What kind of God does man worship if he believes that. This is not love and any true God taught man knows this.We know that God does not tempt, sends temptors, nor is wealth a sign of favor nor associate with evil for the causing of pain.Jesus clarified these misconceptions and they were written as we know them.God knowing sons live with faith to end of our days no matter what that day is like.Is this God's special treatment to Job?

Sue; I always thought the story of Job was a little unfair in that in the end he gets better looking daughters, the 1st ones were (unfair) victims. The book is purported to have been written by Moses.Moses was raised as Pharroh's son and skilled in all things Egyptian.Could there be a connection? Who knows?

Satan wrongly proclaimed that Job loved God only because God was blessing him, and if God would let him give Job some hell then Job would not love God anymore. So God knowing that Job loved him no matter what, directed Satan to give his beloved Job some hell: Satan killed all his kids, gave him a horrible disease, and turned his wife and friends against him.

Job told God, "Cease, my days not few? let me alone, that I may take comfort a little, before I go I will not return, to the land of darkness and the shadow of death." Job 10:20,21. "And YHWH turned the captivity of Job, when he prayed for his friends: also YHWH gave Job twice as much as he had before." Job 42:10. Please read James 5:10,11.
---Eloy on 12/16/06

I admit, Sue, I find the whole premise of the book of Job hard to understand.

Part 2:

FWIW, the Greek and Syriac texts have a few verses at the end that are not in the Hebrew:

It is written that he will rise again with those whom the Lord raises. He is described in the Syriac book as dwelling in the land of Ausis, on the borders of Idumea and Arabia. His name before was Jobab and he took an Arabian wife and begot a son named Enon. He himself was the son of his father Zare, one of the sons of Esau. His mother was Bosorra, so that was fifth in descent from Abraham.

The story of Job, is by some considered an allegory. The devil temps and challenges God and the reality is God can't be tempted so you have to look below the surface.
