The role of women in church is to be an ACTIVE MEMBER. Being silent, especially, if always, is not good nor commendable!
---Bebet3754 on 6/2/08

Absolutely Lynet, we do have many ministries in the church to perform but NEVER to PREACH IN THE CHURCH. It only said not in the church so I guess it is ok in halls, stadiums etc. Am not sure about this. I prefer to go by the Word and the Word alone that women dont is taken as assuming men;s position.
---jana on 4/16/07

robyn---Good job. That is the best scripture I believe in the Bible in the defense of women serving our God. I use it alot. The other day somebody on here was I believe, hinting around that we are using it too much. I just don't believe that we are.
---catherine on 3/31/07

Our role as women in the church is to be led by the Holy spirit and use whatever gifts God has given us, regardless. There is neither male nor female in Christ. We are as one. Women can preach ,teach pray as well as any man. We should love and respect one another as God would have us to do. That is the bottom line
---robyn on 3/30/07

Role of women should be minister & teacher, helping the younger women in the congregation, not taking the place of a man, elder in the church. For example,I am a non-baptized JW, but in field ministry Jehovah gives us the opportunity to go speak with others of his message, but in service it is the men who give the lesson,we do the home bible studies, which to me is great, because it's 1 on 1.We get the lesson in service& we go out & give it as well.
---candice on 3/30/07

My point exactly Jana. Any work within a ministry helps to further the message of God.
There are many duties women can and do perform.
---lynet on 1/15/07

In Genesis, during creation, God said let us make man a HELP MEET. Not one who assumes position above men but a HELP MEET. Prov31 Praises of a Good Wife.Prov12:4,14:1,31:10,Women have many duties thru out the bible...women's minstry Serving the church,Kindness 2 the poor, serving the family,Hospitality etc...

1st John 5:14-15, And this is the confidence that we have in Him, that, if we ask any thing according to His will He heareth us: And if we know that He hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of Him.
First we must believe, then line our lives up with the word of God. Then ask, and be prepared to act on what we believe God has for us to do. He will provide a way. Our actions must bear fruit, if not, we have to go back before the Lord, it is His will not ours.
---lynet on 1/15/07

Women like Deborah were used even though she told Barak (Judges 4:9) the journey would not be for his honour as the enemy would be given into the hand of a woman. Titus shows that bishops and deacons should be the husband of one wife. I take it that means men. Many scriptures point out men as husbands ruling their households and women in subjection to them. The man must be able to rule his own house to rule the house of God. Neither the word nor the Lord change with the times.
---Frank on 1/14/07

No man has ever asked me to grovel at their feet, If you had answered by using scriptures It would prove that women have a valid reason to assume that God had ordained them to preach. Now either you can walk the walk, talk the talk or you have recognised your weak arguments based on heresies.
---Carla5754 on 1/14/07

It would be interesting for those Anointed women Preachers to answer the question with unbiased biblical scriptures or admit their lame excuses are unfounded and non biblical.

Lynet: How can we know the "where ever" & "whatever" is from God & expresses His will?
---Leon on 1/14/07

The role of women in the church is to be where ever God places her, doing whatever God gives her to do.
It's between God, and her.
---lynet on 1/13/07

Carla, have you ZERO self-esteem?! The way you talk, it seems you feel women, including yourself, should grovel at a man's feet!
---Mary on 1/13/07

Alan of Quent, The subject is about women been called in the role of leadership ordained and marked out for MEN, a role that women feel God now has made his annointed redundant so that they can lead. Christ is male, his leadership was also and yes women were used but NONE but NONE Preached or held office so where are these women going with Male Leadership roles. Humble yourselves and be as God intended a Help meet.
---Carla5754 on 1/12/07

as much as women say God called them how is that none have lead the theology Bloggs on Meatier matters such as The Trinity? Because non is educated including myself to be able to desern the Meatiers things of God. But all want to PREACH EH, LOL

All those that claim to be called to preach to men why have you all not cleared up the matter concerning these subjects? Since you are all called to preach to Gods Annointed men, where is the evidence that you can Hold down an annointed debate and the Men on this net can say I am truly fed, you are annointed from God and Blessed with Wisdom, Knowledge and understanding of God truley he has sent you?
---Carla5754 on 1/12/07

Darlene_1: In light of your staunch egalitarian feminist stance, I agree we need to disagree agreeably. :) Thanks for the dialogue. God bless...
---Leon on 1/9/07

Leon,Didn't say the Bible isn't what God intended it to be. I said man has changed God's way, using women in the Bible in leadership roles,to form doctrines which limit women. Some feel so rigid about the Bible they can't look at the truth of human nature in adhereing to customs of the time. Many words were changed in God's Word but still proclaims the Gospel of Jesus. I've studied the Bible, learned scriptures men use to limit women are directed to husband and wives, not every man over every woman.
---Darlene_1 on 1/7/07

Leon,In conclusion,I respect your right to believe as you will. I will never change my mind nor has God ever tried to in the 57 years I have served Him and prayed and studied my Bible in depth. Remember this,God will not use the rebellious or profane to minister and there are and have been many mighty anointed warriors for God in women,in the Bible and our world. I suggest we agree to disagree. May God Bless and lead you in the New Year.

"...I am sure the Baptist who mostly teach from the Bible wouldn't have allowed that to be taught in their college unless confirmed ."

Is that right? Just how did they establish/prove their alleged truth?

Darlene, your logic is unfounded. I mean you no disrespect; but, you're obviously grasping at straws to conveniently suggest the Bible isn't what God intended it to be. I pray you'll soon have a change of heart & mind.
---Leon on 1/6/07

Leon, didn't ask my Baptist Professor how that was known but I am sure the Baptist who mostly teach from the Bible wouldn't have allowed that to be taught in their College unless confirmed. I'm saying no matter how man may change Words God's message still comes through to those who seek. In 1st Century women did all the things men did in ministry and it wasn't until men began to write against it,thats how know they baptised, etc, did it change, beginning with Catholic leaders, followed later by others.
---Darlene_1 on 1/6/07

Carla ... How old-fashioned!!
Do men have no part to play in all those duties?
And surely if man is to be the bread-winner,how does he have time to preach?
---alanUKquent64534 on 1/6/07

Darlene_1: You're saying what God wanted to say to us has been changed and/or distorted. So, the Bible really doesn't represent God's will/plan for our lives; but, rather is written by "man" to suppress and dominate women?

"...some Di[s]ciples scribes who were known to change some of the words they were given." Okaaay! Just how did your professor(s) know that? Did the scribes change words or did they appropriately edit them by God's leading?

Karen with all respect for your point of view,I must say that the verse in the Bible about being silent in Church is less about being silent and more a lesson about order in the Church. The men and women sat on different sides of the church and women were yelling, out of order and causing confusion, across at their husbands during service. Oh yes, there isn't any good reason for a woman to be silent and not contribute respectfully on any subject on here, even if more than once.
---Darlene_1 on 1/6/07

Kenneth, What Church are you referring to, those in the Body of Christ, "The Church", or the earthly Church made up as body of Believers. Your words, Minister, Preacher, Pastor, need to be examined. We're called to preach the Gospel to the Lost. All Christians(male & female) are given "authority" to do so. Women who are members of their earthly church have the right to VOTE on who they want to be their Elder. So, we do have a voice in matters.
---kath4453 on 1/6/07

Womens role in church should not include Preaching to the Men. If women do that then they obviously have lazy men whom like to be spoon fed and have their wives take both their mothers role and sit back drinking milk all their lives. But THE MEN who require Meat will eat from the masters table whereby they are fed by MEN.
---Carla5754 on 1/6/07

Women NOTE:We have periods whereby we are made weak, sometimes we have premenstral stress we cannot function. We are praying mothers,Dr,Social worker,Cleaner, cook, needleworker, hairdressers, toilet cleaners, mentors to our friends, husbands children, window cleaners,girl/boy trainers, helping children with homework, coping with adolesence,drugs,guns,girlfrinds/boyfriends ironing, washing, drying, to name but a few.

How do we Preach to Gods Annointed without NEGLECTING what we are supposed to be doing?.

You know that passage in the bible, women are to be slient?, well, if you look that word up, it pretty much is saying, women do not know when to stop talking, they go on and on. Karen
---Karen on 1/5/07

Leon, I learned in College some Diciples dictated the Books attributed to them to scribes who were known to change some of the words they were given. Yes man does have the ability to change God given Word which is obvious since no original Books were left to translate for any Bible. They all came from the translations of previous manmade translations. To think they came to us in pure form is optimistic to say the least. To believe men weren't influnced by their culture and customs is unrealistic.

God is good. Women take your rigthfull positions in,in that God have called you to be. We are powerful in Christ do not get moved by people but by Christ. We can preach, but must remember to be under authority. Be humble and do what God has called you to do.

"People need to remember, Bible was translated by men ..." Darlene_1, 12/27/06

People also need to remember, the Bible was written by God . Does man/woman have the power to change/alter the Bible, against God's will , to suit their personal agendas? Really? To think so is to believe God isn't really Almighty (Omnipotent) after all.
---Leon on 1/5/07

Silence is a feminine is submission...supposing she were called upon to a man who she is in submission to...then it would be better not to be silent.

---Reiter on 12/29/06

As the apostle Paul once said, "I write this by permission, ...." ....

I believe this is something we all can build on in a positive way. Take a Jewish Mennorah lighting ceremony. The woman of the house has only one job at that time, to light the 1st candle on The Mennorah, without which no other can be lit.

Small job? Maybe (like a ship's rudder), as a young virgin gave birth to 'The Light Of The World', without which no one would have a light to shine.

Key Word? Usurp!
---bob6749_[Elishama] on 12/29/06

God created the spirits first then he made them male and female. When the unclean spirit goes out of the body it seeks rest and finds none and goes back to his house which has been Garnishes,(made male or female.

---betty8468 on 12/28/06

The truth is that a woman was the first preacher. Eve preached to the serpent. Trouble is, he preached back, false word and she not only didn't rebuke him, she followed his lead. She even went and preached that false word to Adam so well he followed her. That in a nutshell is the whole situation and women preachers continue today...
---mikefl on 12/27/06

Look at little closer. 1 Cor 14: says keep silent, forbidden to speak, learn something ask your husband. And husband must acknowldege what paul wrote as commandmnent. 1Cor 11: Any woman praying or prophesying in church. Prophesying is a speaking process in church. This means look a little closer, get the context and in this case it includes the times in which they lived. All women keep silent and church will be safe. I don't think so. Some good background has already been brought out.
---jhonny on 12/27/06

People need to remember, Bible was translated by men in a time when women were no more than property, naturally they would translate acording to customs. Even so you can search History and find women were doing the Ministry men did until men of Catholic Church began to complain against nonpriest women doing that and others followed suit. Women have complied to custom not God's will or way. Example; 1 Timothy 3:1"if a Man" really means Strongs 1536 whoever-whatever,not man, could be woman too.

Women have an important role period, But not to include Preaching to the House hold of Faith. Women that are allowed can and do preach did God ordain it NO. I believe that a church where men do not take the lead is a weak and lazy organisation and will not reflect the gifts outlined by the apostles where Greater things than what they did will be evident in their ministry. FACT

Prove it for yourself go for prayer with a common cold/flu and see if you do not get up with the same aliment. Go for healing for arthritis and see if its gone, not testing but Believing. and they will tell you, You have no faith. But My Bible tells me that the Prayer of a Righteous Man(not woman) Availeth Much.
---Carla5754 on 12/27/06

And all Those that see that phrase as an opportunity to state scripture to mean both men/women, try again this time with Pauls teaching on women preaching to the Church. I am not sorry if this hard for some of the women ''preachers'' to handle. It is feable to assume that Paul asked for women to be silent, and not to teach just to put them dowm. There are a lot men that know just how to do that effectively without including Pauls advice.
---Cara5754 on 12/27/06

Men should have the final word. That's half the truth. 21 "Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God." And that means yeilding to one's admonition or advice. Will God bless a man who never submits because he's not the one who's supposed to submit. And who wants to be married to a doormat wet blanket. Anyway this is speaking of one of seven mysteries in the bible. That means it's being used as a metaphor, not to be taken too literally as we have done for decades.

The Bible says that if people will not praise His name, that the rocks will cry out. God used women (and men) to spread His Word in Bible days. He still does the same today, but more so - I will pour out my spirit on all flesh, and your young women will dream dreams. I (as a woman) would rather spread His Word than let a rock do it.

to give forbidden fruit to the man, and to become a pillar of salt...just kiddin'.
---Eloy on 12/26/06

They were both created equal in the image of God. Man has dominated over woman for centuries, misled them and kept them in sin. Women have suffered some untellable cruelties over the tyranny of men. They have dominated them to their injury.
---Tonne on 12/26/06

Good "word" mikefl & Geoff! In essence men & women in the Church are the same; but, in function God word (the Bible, Gen.-Rev.) shows clear distinctions of roles in order to achieve His desired outcome (goal, i.e., "...Thy will be done...").

Only man given rule over a woman is her husband as in Genesis 3:16 woman was cursed by God because of Eve's fall. Men have perverted that verse and tried to take something ,rule of all men over all women, that God never gave to start with. Every Christian is subjet to directions of those who minister in a church, not just the women. Men have elevated themselves to a place God didn't give them as is evident in last chapter of Proverbs. Also fact Deborah was a prophet and judge over many, men included.
---Darlene_1 on 12/24/06

MikeFL is right on target. A "role" is NOT a right or privilege, but a function. Only a woman can function as a mother and a man as a father. Attempts to mess with that meet disaster.
---Geoff on 12/24/06

I have asked this question before and not received an answer. Does the man become the womans god since she is now subjected to his direction? Is she no longer responsible for her sin if she is acting at the direction of her father, husband, or pastor?
---randy on 12/23/06

By "in the Church", if you mean as a Christian, then read the last Proverb. Read the Bible. Women have very important rolls just as important as men. The "problem" for some to overcome is they do not have the same place. Ultimate responsibility is on the man to God. so he should have final authority. If you mean in Church order, the women should not assume any position that could place them in authority over men whether the men let them or not. Not my word, that's scripture.
