By reading, understanding, and believing the gospel revealed to the Apostle Paul for us, the simplest and easiest to understand being 1Cor 15:1-4.

I felt nothing as I was not born yet when Jesus died for my sins.
I have always felt the hand of God on my life from my youth and have always been sorrowful for any wrongs I did daily.
I have always asked forgiveness as far back as I can remember upon knowing about Jesus.
Nothing whereby I or any other person can glory.
A spiritual work brought forth and led by the Spirit of God.
I love him and fear him and trust him to guide me to when I put off the tabernacle and go to join him.

I was 14 years old and in a service like I had never been in before. I was under such conviction during invitation. I remember leaving my seat but don't remember my feet ever touching the floor. I was a new person and I felt like a new person. Old things were passed away.

I felt His Blood going up me. Clean, I felt inside of me. That's what I FELT, besides the wooing of the Person of the Holy Spirit, wooing me to His Son. Do you want to know what I saw? HELL...I received a vision of it. And then God spoke to me and said, "That is where you are going to go, if you don't get forgiveness of all your sins"....How does one know if their salvation really took a hold? I will tell you and I will quote from the N.T. "I WILL NEVER LEAVE YOU NOR FORSAKE YOU". Hallelujah. This is the greatest promise which God MADE to His chosen people in the whole Bible. Even when we mess up. When peter denied Jesus, Jesus could've just as easily denied Peter. But Peter was chosen. Saved. Really saved.

I heard the gospel preached, then I was convicted by the Holy Ghost and felt bad in my heart. Next I realized I was a sinner and the only way to get to God was to believe that Christ died for my sins, and raised again. The night Jesus saved me, I felt a strong conviction and Jesus knocking at my heart's door. All I had to do was open it and let Him in. After I did, I felt the heavy burden lift and now years later, I'm still unwrapping my Christmas gift, finding out how much Jesus loved me and what all the scripture contains.

I was pretty much breaded in christ, my dad has been a pastor since i was 5, it seems like the enemy attacks young christians more than ever. Girls, friends, etc. i finally made up in my mind in the 6th grade that i would be different, i refused to enhance the world's tempataion and gave my life to God. So i never curse, i never look at BET videos or listen to ungodly music. Iguess a sinner would say im a lame but for God i would be the biggest lame ever. Beacuse thats what its all about obedience and sacrifice. Its easy to turn your life over to God but hard to maintain it, but i guess thats what the war is all about, fighting the flesh to maintain favor with god.I do sin but i repent daily and you should also to stay in touch with christ.

Dont put faith in YOUR ability to repent of sin for salvation or keep yourself saved.
When we repent, we turn to Christ. When I was saved, sin was the last thing on my mind. I felt the love and power of God. I was being born anew. The old was gone, I saw newness of life. I had a completely changed mind.

James, I got saved the same as everyone else. By the Grace and mercy of God, the Holy Spirit brought me to life, when I was dead in my traspasses and sins, from Adam, following the course of this world, doing the desires of the enemy and didn't even realized it. But God who is rich in mercy and because of His great love, brought me to life. "..God may perhaps grant that they will repent and come to know the truth, and they may escape from the snare of the devil, after being captured by him to do his will." God also granted me faith, "for by grace you have been saved through faith, and this is not of your own doing," I then felt a conviction from the Spirit, and I begged for forgiveness.

AlanUK, Priest never sprinkle water, we POUR water 3 times/Trinity.
Infant Baptism is Salvation, ridding Original Sin. A baby has no personal sin.
Everyone has Original sin. The baby didn't commit the original sin, born into it,so why should the Baby confess this sin? Jesus Saved us.
When a baby grows and sins, these personal sins only needs repenting to God. The baby, now an adult is Saved but, must repent for personal sins to keep his Salvation.
An adult getting Baptized has more than one sin on his soul. He has Original Sin and all his personal sins. He must confess his belief, and be baptized. If joking, then God honors the Baptism for Salvation-rid of Original Sin. But,he goes to hell for his UNREPENTED personal sins.
---Nicole on 7/8/08|
Those who don't believe and just get baptized are in a very precarious position indeed. They think they are saved by a ritual. The only way I can see God saving those who are not faithful and baptized, is if thy give their lives for their fellow men, like Aaron Russo did. Those who turn away power, money and security and are taken out of the picture. I believe God has mercy on them because they are doing God's will.

Emcee ... Yes I do have much to learn about the Roman catholic Church ... and am learning here all the time.
But my latest post contained only one statement which was about the superstition that if a baby died before baprism it went to hell. Now you may say the superstition is wrong (as I say it is) but nevertheless it is 100% true that there was and indeed still is such a superstition.
The rest of my post comprised questions about the efficacy of infannt baptism, and Nicola has not really answered.
Neither has she answered about the adult who gets baptised sa a joke and does not mean a word of the promises he makes. Is the priest's sproinking of water effective then?

So, ones feel they are infallible in choosing to promote their Roman Catholic Church...which many were taught to trust while also able to believe in Santa Claus. I found out *I* was NOT infallible.
After getting "saved" and falling in various ways, I considered "the thief on the cross" > he maybe met Jesus, for the first time, right on the cross. He just saw who Jesus is, realized he needed Jesus, and asked Jesus to remember him.
There was no more time to figure out all the issues about baptism and doctrine > Jesus took care of the "thief", I simply trusted Him to have me do what *He* knew He really wants to do with me (o: God bless you (o:

Nicole, Jesus was speaking to the eleven disciples. He had just rebuked them for unbelief. He gave them a directive in the context of the verse. "Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. He who believes and is baptized will be saved, but he who does not believe will be condemned." They were to go, preach the gospel of salvation and those who believed and got baptized were to be considered saved. No where does Jesus say, "go and baptized everyone first, because the gospel of Jesus saves. Without the gospel, there is no salvation. The Word of God convicts the heart, and when it does, the person will get baptize because he believes and now follows Christ.
---Mark_V. on 7/8/08|
Nicole, I reject all your Catholic doctrines. There are many Iraqi children who were killed in the war and I for one believe they will go to Heaven even without having repented of their sins. There is a thing called the conscience, which tells us we did wrong and punishes us. Those born without consciences are few and far between and clinically ill. There are some people who love evil and they will go to hell. But for the most part we are sinners and we depend on a merciful God. Thinking that you are not a sinner is a home goal, because that is pride. Also judging - be careful. You cannot know me. My life is hidden with Christ.
---frances008 on 7/7/08|
Frances008, stop and think. Jesus said in Mark 16:16 Whoever believes and is baptized will be Saved. If Jesus is giving you a clear directive to be Saved, how can you have doubt?
I didn't believe in Jesus before Baptism, I was a baby. But, I did not need to believe. The ONLY SIN I HAD was Original Sin. I didn't commit any sins. Jesus died for ALL SINS.
After baptism, is when I need to believe in Jesus and repent of the sins I COMMITTED. V 16 finishes -"whoever does not beleive will be condemned." I have to believe to keep my Salvation.
We are speaking of 2 TYPES OF SINS. ORIGINAL AND PERSONAL. No action needed from me to clear the original sin, since I didn't commit this sin I WAS BORN INTO THIS SIN.
---Nicole on 7/7/08|
Lately I have been investigating Heaven/Hell experiences on youtube. Most of them were actual after death experiences. I particularly recall one man who was an unbeliever, and who was dying in the ambulance, due to being stung by box jellyfish. He saw his mother's face and she told him to pray. He could not recall exactly, but he managed bits of the Our Father. He went to Heaven, saw God/Jesus and spoke to Him. The point is that if you are not an evil person, and you call on the name of Jesus even in the last throes of death, you will be saved. But sometimes death is sudden and so we should call on Him today. This man was returned to live out his life in which he had promised in Heaven, would be different to his previous life.
---frances008 on 7/7/08|
Nicole, I have been baptised twice, but I don't think it makes any difference to my salvation. It is faith that saves us. Because we believe, we obey the commandments of God. (Also notice that faith comes before baptism.) Did you believe before you were baptised. Children who are baptised before believing can slip through the net and never believe in Jesus Christ. That is why I am against baptizing babies. Really it is just a public welcoming of the child into the Church. The parents promise to bring them up Christian is the thing that counts. If the child turns out an atheist there is no salvation for them, IMHO.

AlanofUK and Frances, Mankind is dead because of Original Sin. Remember Adam?
Salvation is Saving one from damnation that was given to Adam and his offsprings = You and I. Jesus had to die to take away the first Death! It is Free. That's why Jesus commanded the Disciples to Baptized all Nations. Not saying the Sinner's Prayer, which was made up by Protestants not Jesus.
We are still outside the Garden.
We can still turn away from Jesus. For these NEW sins after Baptism, if you DO NOT REPENT OF THESE NEW SINS, YOU GO TO HELL. This is your choice. You refuse to repent then your choose to go to Hell.
Adam chose his own wisdom and was kicked out. God didn't stop Adam from his mistake, Nor will He stop you or I.

When I decided to turn my life over to Christ and left him lift me up and carry my burdens was a breath of fresh air. I realized I didn't have to be so hard, take care of everything all alone. It made me feel light. That's the best I can describe that moment. Now when I was baptized I received the Holy Spirit and THAT was AWESOME! I kept praising him and in came this wonderful tingling, warmth all powerful feeling from the top of my head to the tip of my toes like it just cleansed me through and through. My body, mind and spirit. I suddenly could not control my speech and out come this language I had never before spoken and I knew I should not fight it allow myself to be consume. I felt power, love & total cleansing.

Frances I think you are right ... the baptism of a child does not suddenly "save" him. But there certainly was this superstition that if a baby died before baprtism it would goi to hell,
I wonder how long Nicole would say such saving lasts?
If at age 3 Nicole had suddenly turned inot a horrible child, would her salvation have perwisted?
Or if as a late teenager she had turned her back on Jesus & her faith. Would her childhood baptism still have saved her?
---alan_of_UK on 7/4/08|
Frances008, you are right I would not gone to hell. But, somehow babies would be Saved, before going to Heaven. It is a Mystery, which the RCC isn't afraid to say we just do not know. We don't try to make up an answer just to have an answer.
We have original sin and it must be taken away. God is merciful and will not allow babies to go to hell, because their parents didn't obey Jesus.
But,if Jesus states Baptism is needed for Salvation, are you saying Jesus is wrong? What do you think Jesus meant when He commanded Baptism?
Mark 16:16 He that believeth and is BAPTIZED SHALL BE SAVED, BUT HE THAT BELIEVETH NOT SHALL BE DAMNED.
Never once did Jesus commanded this sinner's prayer that Protestants made up to obtain Salvation.

Todd1, I have been searching for the truth for six years. In the last year I discovered through the Holy Spirit and through the Bible, that God does not live in temples or churches, that most old Churches in Europe were built for idol worship. I learnt that most denominations are daughters of the Mother of all Harlots (Catholicism) and that the only safe place to be was outside of any denomination. So we both studied, and we reached opposite conclusions. I wonder who is correct.

Nicole, the quiet peaceful god in you, is it called 'complacency'? And if you had died at 10 and a half months old, would you have gone to Hell? I know you would not. So what does that do to your theory that Baptism saves you?
---frances008 on 7/4/08|
Nicole, I am able to learn and be taught by my brothers and sisters in Christ, but not by someone who idol worships. It might be I was wrong, but not in the way you say. Baptism cannot save us. My 'works' are not what I rely on, I rely on the finished work of Jesus. My 'works' are really 'fruits'. Because I believe, I want to hear the Word. There are two days, the 'day' for want of a better expression, that God chose the ones who are to receive Salvation, which was before the foundation of the world and the other day is the first Good Friday. The kind of faith that receives salvation on a specific day (like your baptism) is not something to take to the bank, and makes salvation depend on mums and dads, or works in some opinions.

I started watching Bible study seminars on television. I was amazed at how logical and precise the Bible was. I always considered myself a "non-denominational" Christian who believed in God but thought churches were corrupt and twisted the scriptures. After a month or two of intense topical Bible studies which revealed God's will for my life, I surrendered all my sinful habits to God and was baptized.

Salvation is not an event but a process.---frances008
Salvation is an event. Baptism is Salvation from Original Sin.
C #1213 Holy Baptism is the Basis of the Whole Christian life, the gateway to life in the Spirit and the door which gives access to the other Sacraments. Through Baptism we are freed from Sin and reborn as sons of God,we become members of Christ, are incorporated into the Church and made sharers in her mission: "Baptism is the sacrament of regeneration through water in the Word."
The process U speak of is to hold on to our Salvation through good works of listening, praying, studing and putting into your daily life which shows good fruits.
This is a life time work of the Holy Spirit's Graces to us.
---Nicole on 7/3/08|
This question seems to me to be rather silly. It is not like you are drowning and someone (an angel) puts his arms around you and brings you to the shore. Not at all. It is more like God begins to work on you quietly, you have a few questions that need answering, you seek out God, and after years of praying for guidance, God brings you into all of His Truth. It might happen one day, but you cannot receive every truth in a day, you need to study the bible and other books in order to apply the truth to the world we live in. Eventually you start to testify to the truth. When you stop producing fruits you are cut off again. Salvation is not an event but a process. Hopefully, it is ongoing. If it was an event it was the first Good Friday.

How do I feel being washed in the blood and born-again and sanctified and filled to overflowing with the Holy Spirit. This final step humbled me to my knees where I prayed to accept God's gift of salvation. I felt exhilarated and frightened by the newness of Gods presence, confident of His love, and hungry to know and serve Him.
