Eloy::I accept your explaination of
"anothen" with your various words of again, anew above and its applications.Ihe fault lies in the English transalation making "again = above" which it is not.I accept the correction.

A "Change" within oneself, A "New" person that leaves the old one behind.

Reading through alot of these blogs I notice an over-abundance of opinion and a huge variation of beliefs with criticism not that it's unhealthy, however I'm not feeling the one most important thing Jesus taught while I'm reading, Love, without it "we are none of His", don't you think?

What about meekness and fear? Is anyone out there going to be effective soulwinners without the fruit or is that not important? Sorry for the diversion from the question but I think its relative.
---Joe on 2/25/08

.emcee, God's truth is not for any one to corrupt, but is given for all to accept exactly as it is given, but many as yourself wrest God's truth to their own destruction. The Greek word you are misdefining is "anothen", this word has more than one meaning, and depending on context can mean "again" "anew" "over" and "above". If you mistransalted the word to above in every case, you will get falsehood.
---Eloy on 2/25/08

.emcee, for ex: Galatians 4:9 as in John 3:3 uses "anothen" correctly to mean again. After salavation, " turn you again to the weak and beggarly elements, where you all desire "anothen" to be in bondage." Now if we wrest scripture and mistranslate this word to mean "from above", rather than "again", you will see the wrong meaning and falsehood.

Think of being born in your mother's womb, this is what being born again is like, only in God's womb. The Bible says that the one's who accept Jesus Christ as Lord (boss), and repent of their sins ARE the Born Again.

ELOY::If you are right and claim to have Gods MIND (which is impossible)PROVE ME WRONG explain how "Born from ABOVE":JN3:3 transalates to "born again."THIS IS FALSE. makes me suspect the mind you claim to have is from, anything else other than what you claim. You stand on the border of BLASPHEMY.Face the issue of Truth, don't turn tail & Run.

Exodus 12:21 Moses explains that they will kill a lamb and take it's blood and put it on the the door post and the lintel and the death angel seeing the blood will pass over and all in the house would be saved. This is a type of the blood of Jesus being applied to the believer and the wrath of God will pass over him that has the mark of Christ in his forehead. this is why they said this-Acts 16:31 And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.

exzucuh, Please show me from Old Testament scripture and Jesus' testimony that sin was placed upon the Passover Lamb? AND that the blood of Jesus will blot out anyone's sin? I dare you! If Jesus was the Passover Lamb, then NO sin was EVER placed upon Him! NO One is saved or born again at this time! Why-because they don't know the truth and beliving a lie is a sin!

you need to study the word more you know absolutely nothing about the new covenant or the blood of Jesus. Are you even saved? It is only the Blood payment that was sprinkled on the Mercy seat that covered mens sin. God looks at Jesus not his Followers, Jesus is our mediator, as long as we are in him we have justification by faith.

The Father cannot see our sin as long as we are in Christ. If you are not covered by the blood
you are guilty of all your sins.

Acts 1:8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me.
The witness is the Power you receive by regeneration to be transformed into the image of Christ and receive his mind in you, Carnality is still there and wages war against the regeneration, trying to return to the old creature,But by pressing in to the Spirit we receive power to help us overcome the flesh.
---exzucuh on 2/20/08

Galatians 5:17 For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh:and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.

Galatians 5:16 This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.

Galatians 5:25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.

Regeneration gives us power to walk in the Spirit. A freewill gives us power to turn back.

Titus 3:5 but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of REGENERATION, and renewing of the Holy Ghost,

Being Born again is regeneration. Man is a degenerate he left his first estate and became carnal, he must be translated out of carnality into the Spirit, some after the translation return to carnality as a dog returns to his vomit or a pig to wallowing in the mire. they put their hand to the plow and look back. They were born again and like Judas sold Jesus out to carnality.

.emcee, you are catholic, not Christian, and I have no need to shoot anyone whom is already down. There is no striving in the born-again Christian's life, only in the nonChristian's life (strife belongs to those of religion and those not of religions, but not to the praying Christian). After praying the sinner's prayer, Christ's life then joins this soul and the soul is born-again (Christianed). They become a genuine child of God, and their name is written in heaven in "the Lamb's Book of Life."

But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the children of God, to them that believe on his name: which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. And because you all are sons, God has sent forward the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Papa, Father. Whoever stays in him sins not. Whoever is born of God does not commit sin, for his seed remains in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God. Jn.1:12,13, Gal.4:6, I John 3:6,9

Born of the water AND the Spirit. Jesus was saying that baptism by water is not enough. For he was talking to Nicodemus who was a Minister of the O.T. Law, whom already was accustomed to water purifications according to the O.T. Levitcal Law for ministers (Exodus 30:17-21). Jesus was saying that you must not only be born naturally of earth, but also supernaturally of heaven, that is, born-again of the Holy Spirit, meaning born of his Spirit, the Spirit of Christ. Please read John 3:6,7,14,15, Romans 8:9.

"His life for yours". It takes all of your entire life and being, nothing less is acceptable. In genuine personal prayer you surrender your life to Christ, confessing and forsaking your sins, then ask him to Save you from sin and to come into your heart and into your life to take over. When you become born-again, you receive his nature in exchange for yours, he takes out the dead stony heart and gives you a live new heart, one in which he lives. Now you live for him, instead of living for you.

The beauty about becoming born-again is that a tree bearing bad fruit or no fruit is converted into a good tree bearing heavenly fruit, even as the righteousness of Christ.

"Born Again" is an over used term and an underused principle. I too have known far too many that say they are "born again" that act in every way like they are the same old person. Its like saying you are a Christian, but not acting like one. I'm hesitant to say I am "born again" because though I have changed some, I make lots of mistakes and don't want others judging me as a hypocrite or thinking that being "born again" is worthelss, because of my sinful actions.

The Spirit part seem to be the best and easiest understood by bunches
and bunches... The physical part of the new birth is even denied, yet we
are still here and the lord said Matt 26:41 "Watch and pray, that ye enter
not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak." So
then, the body must be tended to also and the water is for the washing of
it and to commend it to God and to the spirit.

See Psalm 26 for what to do after the washing until the body is no more.

Born again cannot be reduced to just a Spiritual birth, not while we are
alive. But these people that do, pretend there is no "body" and people are
headless torsos. Who can understand these things? The last of the lot
according to Jesus, Matthew 21:32 "For John came unto you in the way
of righteousness, and ye believed him not: but the publicans and the harlots
believed him: and ye, when ye had seen it, repented not afterward, that ye
might believe him."

Those were the words of the Lord though Isaiah, "concerning Judah and
Jerusalem in the days of Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah, kings of
Judah.", Isa.1.1 Words that thereafter became invalidated? Don't think so.
What requirement God stated then in Isaiah's vision, echoed again in those
of John. Luke 3:3 "And he came into all the country about Jordan,
preaching the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins,"

What then? They asked John who answered on a few written instances in
Luke 3, "He that hath two coats, let him impart to him that hath none, and
he that hath meat, let him do likewise.", and "Exact no more than that which
is appointed you." and "Do violence to no man, neither accuse any falsely,
and "be content with your wages." John echoed the very same words or
essence that God spoke through Isaiah.

The words of Jesus, "Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he
cannot enter into the kingdom of God." in John 3:5 show that the new birth
is composed of two elements. Together they symbolize renewal in a physical
and spiritual sphere. John 3:28 "Ye yourselves bear me witness, that I said,
I am not the Christ, but that I am sent before him."
---Nana on 12/27/07

#5. When water is used firguatively in the O.T. it habitually refers to renewal or spiritual cleansing, especailly when it is used in conjunction with "Spirit" see (Num. 19:17-19, Ps. 51:9, Is. 32:15, 44:3-5, 55:1-3, Jer. 2:13, Joel 2:28,29). many who are not taught rebirth will argue that you don't need it. Jesus tells us everyone does and He makes the distinction between the two births, "That which is born of the flesh is flesh, that which is born of the Spirit is Spirit?
---Mark_V. on 12/26/07

#6. It is clear that many Catholics don't believe in rebirth. As you can always see by the answers that Emcee and some others give. Those, like Nicodemus, do not understand how they too could be born again. While lost, they are spiritually dead. No Spirit. What everyone needs, is to be alive to Christ, "A spiritual rebirth" And sense works is part of their salvation, it could not be possible for the Spirit to do this to someone. Rebirth would have to be by their own works.
---Mark_V. on 12/26/07

In the passage of John 3:3, where Jesus mentions, "born again" Here the word "again" in the Greek means, "Anothen" meaning (again, as before), John 3:3,7, Gal. 4:9). In these passages it is plain that it means again, and not the literal meaning "above." Nicodemus understood the Lord to mean again since his response was, "How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother's womb and be born?" John 3:4.
---Mark_V. on 12/26/07

#2. Nicodemus understood Christ words, but "did not believe Him that a person could be born again a second time after he was already alive physically." When the word "anothen" is used with a prep. as in Matt. 27:51, Mark 15:38, it is used in the sense of a noun meaning the top or upper room. When it is used as an adv. it mean's a place or time, from the word "ano" Above, and the suffix-then denoting from above found in (John 3:31, James 1:17).
---Mark_V. on 12/26/07

#3. The born again that Jesus was refering to comes from a phrase which literally means, "Born from above" but Jesus did not say above in verse 3. Jesus answered with a question that Nicodemus does not even ask. He read Nicodemus heart and came to the very core of his problem, "the need for spiritual transformation or regeneration produced by the Holy Spirit." The new birth is an act of God whereby eternal life is imparted to the believer.
---Mark_V. on 12/26/07

#4. found in (2 Cor. 5:17, Titus 3:5, 1 Peter 1:3, 1 John 2:29, 3:9, 4:7, 5:1,4,18). If Nicodemus had understood Christ to mean "From above" he would have responded differently. verse 3:5, "Most assurely I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God." Jesus here is refering not to literal water but to the need for "Cleansing" Ezek. 36:24-27).
---Mark_V. on 12/26/07

therefore that hath heard, and hath learned of the Father, cometh unto me."

All people since the fall, are dead in sin (Eph. 2:1-3). We did not "decide" by the power of our own will to become Christian. In John 15:16 Jesus says "You did not choose me, but I chose you..." Being "born again" or Conversion is solely the work of the Holy Spirit. "No one can say that Jesus is Lord except by the Holy Spirit" (1 Cor. 12:3). Anyone can hear the truth and still be dead, it's only by RECIEVING Gods gift of forgiveness that we live.

I neither have seen a just born baby, talk or get up and walk. Not only
does Life precede action but also it precedes knowledge also.
Proverbs 22:6 "Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is

Matthew 9:13 "But go ye and learn what that meaneth, I will have mercy,

How about the "righteous" who don't get called, are they not fit for the
kingdom? Rather I say that they were born already, thus having
undestanding of spiritual things.

John 3:10 "Jesus answered and said unto him, Art thou a master of Israel,

I have the experience. Thank you. Born-again means that Jesus pays YOU A VISIT convicts you that you are a sinner and if you do not get forgiveness you will die and go to hell. To make it short and to the point. He then comes and makes His home inside of you. And oh, you have been raised from the dead. Jesus was also raised from the dead. Emcee, born again is definitely in God's Word (in English versions). I'm not sure what version you prefer but the following verses use the term in both the KJV, NIV, and NASB. John 3:3, John 3:7, and 1 Peter 1:23. In addition 1 Peter 1:3 has the term in the NASB. Our bibles make it clear that Nichodemus misunderstood and Jesus gave the explanation. We must also give explanation when people misunderstand the expression.

Born again is to die and let Christ live in you. This means that we no longer live our lives by what we want but to live in the perfect will of God. In the bible those that were present at Pentacost were born again because they were filled with the Holy Ghost and no longer cared for their own lives but did according to His wiil. Today we see that Jesus said "Ye shall know the tree by the fruit in which it bears". Look around and see those that think not of themselves but of others.

Jack 8773, you said some have become born again? I have been looking all over the place for these people and I have yet to find even ONE! Do you understand that NO LIE will be found in their mouths? You see, the 'WISE' found in Dan. 12. are the ones who have become born again. They are also the 'Bond Servants' sealed by God who understand ALL of Revelation and know when Jesus is coming.

Don't believe the false theology of the "Dr", born again is as the Scriptures reveal it and as Paul and Jesus taught it. If you are not born again, you are none of his.

Listen well.God created us in His likness
and in his image. When Adam and Eve commited sin, that image was taken away. When Christ
said EXCEPT YE BE BORN-AGAIN he nor she can
enter into the kingdom of God.
TO be BORN-AGAIN is to REGAIN that which was lost in the Garden of eden.
Some have already obtained this image through Christ.Others will, but that image is
known above what is seen in todays presentation of religions. Many are called, but few chosen.
