Rewards are usually given for good behaviour or excellence of some kind. Heaven was purchased for sinners, purchased for us at a very high price so, no, I cannot describe it as a reward. It is a gift towards which I contributed nothing because it has been paid for in full by Jesus.
---m.p.a. on 4/15/08

And reward is not given as unmerited favor. Every war implies that you did something to earn the reward. And that way of thinking of course puts us back in and under the LAW!!! And we know no man will be justified before the father BY THE law!!!

Sister_Leslie & ShawnM.T , That was stated very well(Biblically sound). God Bless!

Bruce, You would do well to read the Blog. I already adressed this issue below. Please read it.

Steve:I was educated in a Catholic institution where I had the privelege of studying with young men preparing for the priesthood. My devotion to Jesus & His Beloved mother started age 9. What I saw learned & passed on to my Children,Is the same grounding of what Jesus said A house built on a rock foundation will never fallas opposed to House built on sand. My love for Jesus & His mom are set in STONE.Thank you for the invitation.

Here you say Heaven is a reward. In another blog you said: "This is for all people who thinks they deserved to be saved. Well, think again. God only saved you, because he has work for you to do. So what are you doing"

Is heaven, (eternal life) a reward (something deserved) or is it not?
---Bruce5656 on 1/31/07

For the sake of those who may have missed it, the original question (as clarified below) was:

Note: The question is not about if it is believed that rewards are given in Heaven

if it is believed that Heaven itself (eternal life) is a reward.

Emcee, I am not asking you to just except what I am presenting to you. My desire is that you will search the Scriptures to see what I am suggesting is there. I believe if you ask God to open your eyes to His truth and not seek to just prove your position He will reveal Truth to you. Steve

Steve:Authors guided by the same Holy spirit are addressing those who have already come to believe in Christ for salvation" Why would this lead you to assume that I belong to the category who are to be influenced BY John? I do believe each one has a destiny & its the duty of each one who is on this earth to do his utmost to reach a state of perfection,by contrition before completing his tour of duty on earth as HE ALONE has to render an account to His Maker.
---Emcee on 1/30/07

Websters Dictionary defines Reward as something giving in return for something done. In Greek: Reward translate misthos {mis-thos'} Meaning: 1) dues paid for work 1a) wages, hire . With this knowledge one can only conclude that Heaven is not a reward because we can not work our way into Heaven. It is Faith alone in Christ alone that one inters into an eternal relationship with God and if one does not believe that Jesus is the Christ and gives them Eternal Life then they cannot enter into Heaven.

I don't know about THEOLOGY, but HEAVEN is going to be my reward. I will get to really rest up there. I got saved, so someday, I can go and I won't be going to HELL. AH,resting, that will be a great reward. I believe anyone that is really saved from the fires of HELL, is going to think of HEAVEN AS THE BEST REWARD, EVER.

Emcee, it is good that you mentioned the Book of Acts because you prove my point.
Acts 16:29-31 Then he called for a light, ran in, and fell down trembling before Paul and Silas. 30 And he brought them out and said, "Sirs, what must I do to be saved?" 31 So they said, "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household."
---Steve on 1/29/07

Emcee, you can not dismiss the purpose statement in the Book of John (John 20:30-31). I believe if look intensely into the Word of God you will see that the Book of John is the only Book in the Bible writen to show one how to inter into an eternal relationship with Jesus. If you pay attention in the other Books of the Bible you will see that the other Authors guided by the same Holy Sprite are addressing those that have already come to Believe in Christ for Eternal Life.

Heaven is a reward for those that have accepted Jesus Christ into their hearts as Lord and Savior, and who are without spot or blemish.
---Sister_Leslie on 1/28/07

Steve::Thanks for your input. However salvation is not dependant on The Gospel OF John ALONE. There are other 3 Gospels Acts & writings PLUS THE word of GOD contained within. My summation stands. You may have your own convictions God gave you a free will.I offer mine not for barter or exchange.
---Emcee on 1/28/07

EMCEE, if you hold that position than you have pieced together a very different Gospel from the Bible. The Pharisees believed that by keeping the law (enduring) they would work their way into a right standing with God. However, Christ said that if you believe in Him. You have eternal life (John 3:16).

EMCEE, Please sit down and read the Book of John from cover to cover. You will see that Jesus perform eight signs in this book so that the reader might believe that He is the Christ (Anointed One) and by believing in Him for eternal Life He freely give it to the believer. The writer of the book of John wanted to make sure the reader did not miss this point so he put a purpose statement in the Book of John. See John 20:30-31

Heaven is not a reward. A reward is something that has been worked for. Heaven is home to those who are born-again. Heaven was paid for on the Cross by the Lord Jesus Christ.
---Helen_5378 on 1/27/07

I believe that Heaven is a reward. A reward is given for something which is found. God promised us if we seek the Kingdom of Heaven, we will find it. In other words, it will be our reward.

We are not saying that we work our way there. We are saying that heaven is our ultimate reward for enduring to the end. It is the only hope that we have, for goodness sake, it is going to be our final beautiful HOME. We should be very excitied.

It's our reward for believeing in God.

Sue, If Heaven is a reward then it is something you have to work for. We would not have needed Christ if we could work our way into Heaven.

"Whats wrong with heaven being a reward"
Sue"is that what Chstians believe? because they say,its by Faith which is a Gift so if heaven is a reward then they must have done some work for the Reward, but they do not believe in how can heaven be a reward,if it's a gift & does that say this in the book of God.

Whats so wrong about heaven being a reward?
---sue on 1/26/07

Heaven is a reward. Salvation is for eternity. The sufferings of this world does not compare to the glory inside of you. If everyone lives their life for salvation, death is not so bad. Yahshua suffered so that we can achieve this reward. Remember, your soul was bought for a price. And the price was, the blood of God.
---Jacques on 1/26/07

Heaven is a very real place. It is not metaphorical or sybolic or in any way internal. Jesus said: John 14:2-3, "In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also."

Love of God to those who are seeking a reward Will indeed Be Surprised.
Love God for what who & why He is. "HE IS YOUR GOD" Not for what He can give you.Do you love your Husband Or wife for what you can GET.This is one of the reasons for dissolution. The question needs restructuring.Peters answer was "Where shall we Go lord, you have the words of eternal life.

. (ii) We who are saved take it with us where ever we are. We do not think of it as a reward; because we have done nothing, nor could we ever do anything to achieve such a reward. It is by the grace of God and the blood of the lamb that we reside in heavenly places NOW. The book; the Lambs Book of Blood resides in heaven and if your name is in it, so do you.
---ShawnM.T on 1/25/07

Heaven, even according to the scriptures, is not going to be our final destination i.e. He is going to create a New Heaven and Earth. So if one is referring to Heaven as one receiving eternal life that is not a reward. How one would enter into the present Heaven would be simply by believing that Jesus is the Christ (Anointed One) and that He gives eternal life to those who simply believe in Him for eternal life.

(i) The Lord says, to not rejoice because you have been given power & authority over scorpions & demons, but because your name is written in the Lambs Book of Blood. Heaven is not temporal, so it is not a place in time that you can go to. Heaven is eternal and resides in the hearts (souls) of men.

By faith Enoch was translated so that he did not see death, and was not found because God had translated him; for before his translation he had this testimony,
that he pleased God.

But without faith it is impossible to
please Him,
for he who comes to God must believe that He is,
and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.

Heb. 11:5,6

Do not be afraid, Abram. I am your shield, your exceedingly great reward.
Gen. 15:1

The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever;
The judgments of the Lord are true and righteous altogether.
More to be desired are they than gold,
Yea, than much fine gold;
Sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.
Moreover by them Your servant is warned,
And in keeping them there is great reward.
