Should Christians Use The Tithe

The tithe was the inheritance of the Levitical Priesthood because they had no inheritance of land. In the New Covenant Christians are a part of the new priesthood. To be consistent should we than tithe to ourselves?

We do not please God by trying to live by the Law. We have fallen from Grace. Grace pleases God not living by some set rules and regulations. For those who insists on tithing, why don't you just go ahead and practice circumcision, bring your fatted calves, food, everything and lay them on the altar. Then the priest can forgive all of your sins. You really would not need Jesus or the Holy Spirit, Now would you? Sounds silly, doesn't it? It is silly for those who want to live by the Law.

If we are born-again then we do not have to tithe. We need to give freely and be cheerful givers.

I don't hide in a building either. I am alive in there as well as I am anywhere else. I understand what you're saying, but you don't understand what I'm saying.

Rebecca D the Church I belong to does not have utilities or bills, because it is a Spiritual body. I do not sit back and let others do the work I am actively engaged in spreading the gospel as a disciple of Christ. I do not hide in a building where God does not dwell. As commanded by Christ I go into the world and I am salt and light and I am a living testimony to the true and living God.

Ryan; No, God put it on my heart to pay my tithes to my church. To help pay for the utilites and the needs within the church. Do you belong to a church? If so do you do your part by helping with the utilities? Or do you just sit back and let everyone else do it?
---Rebecca_D on 2/21/07

Rebecca D, so your telling me that GOd has told you specifically to give 10% of your income to a building that He does not dwell in?
---Ryan on 2/21/07

Well however you feel, is how you feel. God wrote the word for all to hear and to understand or at least try to understand. I just know that God has put it upon me to tithe to my church and help out the church. So I will do what God has lead me to do and not worry about what someone else says.

#1 Rebecca D, Abram tithed to Milchesidek because it was the custom of the times. Abram had traversed the land in which Milchesidek resided over, so Abram gave a tenth of the spoils (not his personal wealth) to the high priest as was the custom.

#2 Rebecca D, Your quote from Genesis 28 was only a partial quote. You left out the entire first half in which Jacob claims (and I'm paraphrasing) "God if you will do this than I will give you a tenth of all." It was a condtional promise Jacob made to God.
---Ryan on 2/21/07

#3 Rebecca D, I noticed your new little saying is, "To me and only me..." The main problem with such a statement is you are using scripture in your own personal interpretation, we are warned not to mishandle the word in this way. Since your not a farmer you mush have herds or flocks? Right?
---Ryan on 2/21/07

christ told the rich man to sell everything he had and foolow me.but he went away sad for he loved his possessions more than God.EVERYTHING not 10 to the church for the furtherment of the gospel is answer your question ,we already give enough to ourselves.mortagage payments, car payments, insurance, credit cards, entertainment, all the trappings of american life.
---tom2 on 2/20/07

No I am not a farmer, like to be, have enough land for it, but no I'm not a farmer. Why do you think Abraham paid his tithes to
Melchizedek? Because he had to? No. Heb 7:1-10. To me and only me, it is a commandment from God. Gen 28:20-22. Jacob said, "and of all thou shalt give me I will surely give a tenth unto thee. He was talking to God.

Rebecca D yo failed to answer any of my questions. Why?
---Ryan on 2/20/07

Again, It is up to me or to each person to tithe. Do you believe one should support the church they attend to? Or are you one of the many people whom think that there are many tithers so you don't think you should do your part? You shouldn't tithe, because God doesn't need your money that he let you earn, he'll get it through true believers.
---Rebecca_D on 2/19/07

Rebecca D, your a farmer? Which Levitical city do you bring your tithe to? Do you tithe of the land the seed of the land the herd and the flock, as commanded by God? You live under the Mosaic law, (The law of sin and death)? God leads you to tithe for the inheritance of the Levites, which no longer exist? Ignorance is Satans greatest weapon.

Tithing is carnal? Let me see, God leads me to tithe, so how is that carnal?

Please dont tithe, its way too carnal....give as the spirit leads, Christians are to be led by the spirit. The Spirit cant lead if your led by the law.
---Duane on 2/17/07

If God permits you to do that. Sometimes He does. Now isn't He, A Good God?
---catherine on 2/17/07

Whether we tithe or not, we cannot be cursed. Galatians 3:13 Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law... Furthermore we should give wisefully. Proverbs 22:16 He who oppresses the poor to increase his riches (sounds like prosperity preachers) and he who gives to the rich, will surely come to poverty.
---Randy on 2/17/07

The N.T. says to render unto Ceaser what is Ceaser's (government) and unto God what is God's (tithe). The cross was for salvation ONLY and did NOT do away with the tithe. If you do NOT tithe a curse is put on your finances. This is why many Christians are broke, in poverty, in debt, or on welefare.

If YOU would like to tithe it would please God. If YOU can not tithe by faith it will not please God if you do. Faith pleases God, and faith alone. Give until it takes faith to give, and it will please God. He LOVES you and does not want you under bondage to his law, but under his grace to give what you please out of faith and love.

Brothers, remember that Jesus Chist did not come to do away with the old testament. If anything our Lord Jesus raise the bar even hire for those who are truly in Christ. It shouldn't be inspected, but expected of us truly born again. We need to remember GOD see'and knows all things.GOD does need us or our money,I strongly believe he will test us in what we value most.In our sinful nature sadly to say we tend to feel secure with money and many times don't trust GOD in that area.
---edith on 2/6/07

I do agree with Helen. The tithe does not pertain to New Testament christians of today. However, if someone wants to tithe they should be prepared to keep all of the commandments in thee OT. They have fallen from grace and want to be back in bondage.
---robyn on 2/6/07

There are two standards of giving:

1. 10% in the OT.

2. 100% in Acts.

Which would you rather give?
