Problem Believing In God

I have a problem in believing in God. I want to believe in God, but the only reason I worship Him is because I am afraid not to. I am leading into depression and want to make up my mind.

As much as God loves us we are to fear him, Yes that's exactly what I mean The secret is in fearing the Lord. Just as one fears the wrath of their father and by so you are obedient else where where is the discipline.

Psa 25:14
The secret of the LORD [is] with them that fear him, and he will shew them his covenant.

john, well the bible tells us that the fear of God is the begining of wisdom.remember that the bible is a witness of God and jesus.the men like peter, paul, the apostles and others were real people.all of whom died for their faith in jesus.these men chose to die rather than deny may die for the truth but I don,t know any that will die for a lie.

John, reach out to God, and He will reach out to you. Remember, without faith we cannot please God. Ask God for this faith. You will not be disappointed. God bless you, in Jesus name.
---John on 3/11/07

the bible says that you may believe in God but those who worship him must worship him in spirit and truth.GOd is a God of love he doesnt want you to be afraid of him.the bible says to work out your salvation with fear and trembling but it is a metaphor to some degree. god wants you to accept him willingly and not out of fear.learn more about your heavenly father so you dont have to be the 4 gospels.ACCEPTING Jesus is a choice not a punishment.amen

What is all of this nonsense believing in God? When God truly saves you, then you will believe. This is why I say, we don't try to prove anything. Wait until Jesus saves you, then you shall know. plain and the gospel. People, you are always trying to make something difficult when it is not.
---catherine on 2/27/07

John, when Jesus rose from the dead over 500 people saw him. Why would these people lie about it when to do so could have gotten them killed? Put yourself in their place. They were putting themselves in danger preaching about Jesus but they HAD to do it because it was so true/important. Why would those men go to prison if they really didn't see Jesus like they claimed? These men were not fools. They really saw Jesus risen from the dead and they put their lives in danger (some died) to tell about it.

John, This may scare you, and it should. In no way am I putting you down. Jesus preached about this a lot. If you don't believe in God, particularly Jesus Christ, you will burn in HELL forever! Can you guarantee that you will live to see tomorrow?

John, do you know what makes it difficult for you to believe in God?

John, you have many responses here. Has anything helped? Please let us know.

Yes, but Paul believed he was serving God before the Damascus road experience.
---ken on 2/22/07

Emcee. Hi Remember what Paul was doing before he was "paid a visit" he was definately not on the "faith" side. Hope this helps

John::Hebrews 11:16 is not what you printed in your post of 2/7/o7Your post as seen on this blog contradicts of what Catherine wrote on 2/14/07 she did not believe in God yet god paid her a visit.I am confused Could you or someone explain it, you see it seems one does not need faith to get Paid a visit from the Most High God.something is Fishy here.
---Emcee on 2/15/07

Catherine::"Until he paid me a visit"If you do not mind would you please explain the nature of that visit & what was said.I do not doubt but you have piqued my interest.I am sure there are others who may like to know as well. Thank you.
---Emcee on 2/15/07

If your not for God, then your against Him.
---Kip on 2/15/07

I certainly can understand someone having a problem believing in God, if He has not saved them. I didn't believe that there was a GOD, until He payed me a visit. Now I cannot imagine a life without Him. I would be lost.

You either believe in God or you don't. In other words, you step out in FAITH and believe that He is, or you don't. The Bible says that without FAITH you cannot please God. You have to make a decision, John.
---John on 2/13/07

God is very real. You cannot see the wind, but only its effects. The same is with God.
---Leslie on 2/11/07

Rebecca D== If I may, I will add to that. If all you have is God, then you had better learn to trust Him.
---catherine on 2/11/07

You can never truely worship him in heart unless you make up your mind to serve him. It takes faith to move the hand of God, if you don't have faith in God, then you can't please him. It is good that you have a fear of God, but God doesn't want people to worship him in fear. Seek God for help, he gave us the Holy Ghost for guideance. If you can't trust God then you can't trust nobody.

When the person of the Holy Spitit pays you a visit [God], And woos you to His son and you get saved. your belief and trust will grow. You will have some work ahead of you. Stay in prayer. [PRAYER should be like breathing] praise and worship. Study the word of God. Spend lots of time with God. All of these things will keep you close to the Lord Thy God. NO chance of back sliding.

John, you have a lot of advice here and with all that's said, it comes down to you. It's your call. Do you believe in God?
---someone on 2/9/07

John, Bless you! Some have spoken of the need to love God, and while that is true, one thing comes to mind. It is written that we love because HE first loved us. I believe you need to know the love of God for you, and that is shown through Jesus life, death and resurrection. Jesus loves you so much He gave his life for you.
Please read and reread what Joseph wrote and pray

John believing can be defined as "considering to be true" based on that which is sensually perceived. In christianity it is based on faith. I choose to embrace the definition "Reliance upon, adhering to, trusting in, & depending upon" when referring to "believing in God." Of course none of that is possible without faith "As a superimposed unwavering confidence in the Father, His Word & His principles" empowered by His Spirit. Submit to Him & be free.

John, Don't listen to lorra8574. Most people here are giving you the right advice, especially the other John. If you do what lorra8574 says to, you will be starting out on the wrong foot, and when you do find out that praying to saints is the wrong way, and is totally fruitless, it may be too late. If you want good things to happen in your spiritual life, pray only to God. God bless you John.

John "The invisible things of Him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and God head, Of Him and through Him are all things: All things are of God. Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things which are seen, were not made of things which appear." Rom.1:20>11:36>Heb.11:3 So you see John nothing exist apart from The Father. You are alive so you can be sure God exist.
---josef on 2/8/07

John, Romans 14:23 says that whatever is not of faith is sin. You must let go of your unbelief and let God have complete control. When God threw satan out of heaven a third of the angels went with him. They all roam this earth "seeking whom they may devour." One of them is actually a spirit of unbelief. You must rebuke him in Jesus' name. Your decision to follow God was a decision. So also is faith a decision.
---faye4464 on 2/8/07

Sin seperate us from God. You have problem believing in God. This what you should do. Accept/receive Jesus christ as your Lord and saviour the He will accept as His son. Tell Jesus to come into your life and ask forgiveness for all the sins you have commmitted. That's the start accepting that you are a sinner. All have sinned and come short of the glory of God. Read the word of God the bible. The bible is inspired by God and all prophesy has come to past.

Deputy: "Life after death goes hand in hand with the Bible...," but only after the first resurrection at the appearance of Jesus, for it's written that the dead in Christ will rise first, the living will be caught up with the dead. Blessed are the people who are risen during the first resurrection.

John: Would you call a stranger a friend? Would you call a person who you know by name only a friend? (some people have known people for decades by name only).

God already knows you very well. Now it's you that must get to know him. And that's by reading the Bible from beginning to end. He wants a personal relationship with you, a close personal and intimate relationship. Develop that relationship by getting to know him. The Bible is His resume.
---Steveng on 2/7/07

Another reason we know God is REAL, is simple.
Jesus Christ.
Jesus Christ is the most known name in the World. This alone speaks for the POWER of God.
Man-try as they may. Have never been able to stop Christianity and the Worship and Praise to God Almighty!
God, the Creator of Heaven and earth, is REAL! We live by FAITH, not on what is seen, but in what is unseen!
Don't give up brother, God is with you and so are we, God bless!
---DePuTy on 2/7/07

I have personally had encounters with the supernatural (ghost phenomena). Although this doesn't prove the existence of God, It does prove the existence of life after death.

A study conducted in 1992 into the 'near death experience' revealed that 30 million Americans, regardless if they believed in God or NOT, claimed to have left their body after being pronounced clinicly dead.
Life after death goes hand in hand with the Bible, and against evolution!

John, I see why you would have trouble believing in God. people should love Jesus Christ and show that love in the actions and words spoken. the problem comes when people say one thing and do another. when they indulge in the evils of the world and then try to say trust me I am telling you how you should live. my advice to you, study and pray for yourself. you will know God exists and loves you. only listen to God, no one else. they are not without sin themselves and can deceive you.
---anonymous on 2/7/07

John, I have been there. So have many others. It is sometimes called the Dark Night of the Soul (and it can last for years). The best remedy is to pray. While some might disagree, I would suggest that you call upon the Communion of Saints to pray for you, and for you to live the Gospel. Things should clear up. I will add my prayers to yours. God Bless and Keep You.
---lorra8574 on 2/7/07

I don't know exactly why you doubt the existence of God, but you aren't the only one that feels this way, Many others do as well.
I myself felt the same way, and was caught in a crossroads, until I discovered that God left many clues to prove his existence. The main clues lie in the Jewish Nation (Israel).

The Jews lost their Land nearly 3,000 years ago due to the disobedience to God. God promised to bring them back into their land, and in May 14, 1948, the prophecy came true.
---DePuTy on 2/7/07

Hi John, I'm thinking that lots of people have this problem from time to time. All you can do (and this works!) is keep praying to God, tell Him your worries and fears and ask for wisdom and understanding, He will answer. Keep the faith!

To please God we must have faith in Christ. That faith; is believing in the word of God. If you do not believe the word, who do you think your worshiping; when you worshiping God. God has placed before us life & death. Now we have to decide which one we wish to accept. It is very clear what to do. God himself has even told us; choose life.

In your case, look at it this way; choose Joy or Depression? Understand! The fear of God, is to be obedient to his word; which is different than being afraid of his word and what will happen if you do not do what you know you are suppose to do. We are to Love God with all our hearts, soul and minds. It is love that keeps us in the fear of God.
---ShawnM.T on 2/7/07

True worship comes from the heart. Maybe you gave up drinkin night or whatever; it means nothing if it's done of obligation.

The heart that's born again desires what has been shown as righteous by the Holy Spirit. It is as Jesus said: John 3:6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.
John 3:7 Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again

If you were saved you wouldn't fear death,("afraid not to") see Hebrews 2:14-15

John, my name is also John. I have been giving advice to a few here for awhile now, and all I can tell you John is, the Bible says in the New Testiment in Hebrews 11:16 "But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him".
John, get a King James Bible and start with the Gospel of John. Also read Matthew, Mark and luke. Read it again until God's Holy Spirit shows you something.
