It is not called the World Series. (That's baseball and it includes Canadian teams) The Superbowl is just that . . . the best of the best of the two football leagues on this continent. There are many bowl games before and leading up to the the superbowl. It has never been referred in our country as a world series or world champions, just the Superbowl champions. I don't know what they say about it on Television in other countries.
---Gena on 3/2/07

If people can get so excited over a little ball flying in the sky, on a sunday morning, instead of Jesus on a sunday morning, Something must be seriously out of whack in our churches.
---Cynthia_1 on 3/2/07

you Americans truly make me laugh at your superbowl game. The game is beamed on tv saying it is a World Series when only American teams compete in the game. How come its a world Super Bowl Series? hahah Cricket is played by world wide teams and so as rugby n soccer..But never the Super Bowl .. mmm

You know what Rebecca D, That is exactly what makes me turn red, blue, name it. I love you. And thanks.
---catherine on 2/20/07

I agree with you Catherine. God is left out of most churches because the people don't bring him with them. Most people don't know how to worship God. They watch others and do as they do and don't let the Holy Ghost fill them and let him lead.
---Rebecca_D on 2/20/07

Rebecca D== I know without A single doubt that God has been left out of most churches today. Being led by the Holy Spirit is the only correct way to worship. So you, my friend, are correct. People tend to forget that God, well, He has feelings. I know that JESUS is my life. and as I live and breathe, I am going to take God with me everywhere I go, and He will lead me, even in church. YES.
---catherine on 2/19/07

Not once did I say, my church was perfect. I just said that we are lead by the Holy Ghost, not by self. We don't go by a program or a schedule if that was what your getting at, what is it that your getting at?
---Rebecca_D on 2/19/07

Madison, meeting with Christians in church, is priceless. Your answer made me want to sing. I have to find the right song, and I'll put it on H.on CN for you. I liked your answer.
---Rural_Cafe on 2/19/07

Rebecca, is yours the only perfect church?

Can others be formal, and meet the needs of its congregants?
---Observer on 2/19/07

Madison: God called me to sing. I sing songs that speak to my spirit. I also am learning sign language to worship songs. The songs that I can hardly do without crying is "Shout to the Lord" and "Lord, Prepare Me to Be a Santuary". When I sign to Santuary, the HOly Ghost comes in and just takes over. I agree some churches have songs and people that are just for entertaiment and have no clue what Worship is all about.
---Rebecca_D on 2/19/07

My church is not boring in the least. I did not attend it because it was entertaining, but because the pastor preached the Word of God with love for His people. I also found the songs of worship to be uplifting and encouraging.
---Madison1101 on 2/18/07

Chestnut, you do not mention why you do not attend church with your children. My parents dropped me off at the back of the church when I was a child. It bothered me so much not to have my family all there as a group. I made sure when I raised my children, they would be with both of their parents in the pew during worship services, and they were.
---Madison1101 on 2/18/07

I think that their is too much religion, not enough relation...i think when God gives us greater revilation of that, even greater than before it gets exciting, we anticipate what GOd will do next, whether its in a church where we hear the same messages or not, whether we sing the same songs or not, or when we walk on the sidewalk, or even run on the sidewalk...
---mark on 2/18/07

If one goes to church for enternaiment then there going for the wrong reason. Church should not be like the movies, if it is find another church.
---Rebecca_D on 2/18/07

cool beans,mark!2 of my daughters frequented a nearby church for a few they have stopped.I hadn't given it much thought until the other day,so I asked my now 9yr.old why she stopped going and she said, its boring mom,its the same stories, over and over and over.I wanna hear something different.she's 9 ppl! There is always someone out there saying how good their chruch is.I don't buy it.

If you are tired of hearing the same stuff preached over and over might I suggest finding a church in which the pastor preaches the rightly divided word of truth as it is brought forth by the Spirit of God without the doctrinal limitations of the parrots that blindly repeat what they are told and limited to by a convention, international, or other man made limitations of the well schooled spiritually blind?
---Frank on 2/18/07

Sue; If church is boring to you, then find another church. Sue you need to come to my church. We go by no programs, we let God lead. When me and a few other girls are singing, when the Pastor is ready to preach, and he's on fire for God. We know by his actins. We have no routine, no schedule. Keep searching, because if you think that all churches are boring, there is something wrong with the inner man in you.
---Rebecca_D on 2/18/07

Sue-- there is nothing wrong with you. Many churches are like going to the movies, you come in pay your money, watch the show, and go home. Scripture says we come together for the benefit of each other, this is hard to do when the only interaction is during a handshake before the offering is taken or on the front steps after the service
---Buttons on 2/18/07

Hey sue, i got bored of church eons ago, haha i'm only 17, so what did i do, well i decided to find out if their is more, well i found out that their is more and am going after it,
We must search hard for something more, not just church and tradition, something more straight from Jesus Christ...

Rebecca, I dont like church because I find it boring. I cant help it, there must be something wrong with me. I do like a certain woman I found on TV because she can tell me exactly what the Bible says in the original language it was written, and explain it in a way I understand. I guess I just got tired of the same stuff being preached over an over. Singing the same songs over an over. Nothing new, nothing to make me THINK.
---sue on 2/17/07

In addition to the Scripture below, we know that we are created in God's image because of Gen 1:27, "God created man in His own image,...male and female He created them."
1 Cor 11:7 confirms this fact. Image and likeness of man is part of the image of God. Infants laugh outloud, they smile.
---Cindy on 2/16/07

God is Eternal. We know eternity exists because God placed the understanding of eternity inside of us. It is witness that God exists. We are created in the image or likeness of God so that we are capable of having fellowship/relationship with God.
---Cindy on 2/16/07

Because some are not aware that they were made in the image or likeness of God; or their mental capacities are impaired - it does not make the image defective. The oil of gladness, laughter, joy are in the image of God. If you are unable to express emotions, mental or physical impairments, it does not negate they are part of the image of God.

Jesus' body on earth was God and Man.
Acts 17:29 He is alive, not a God of gold, silver or stone.

We know Jesus wept, we cry. All of our emotions were created in the image and likeness of God. We could not smile or laugh had God not created that ability. Jesus had fellowship with God on earth with emotions.
---Cindy on 2/16/07

Pr 17:22 A merry heart doeth good like a medicine; but a broken spirit drieth the bones. Maybe jesus didn't laugh but if it is a sin, then I shall never make it to heaven.
---buttons on 2/16/07

I really, really want to see the scripture where Jesus had a fine sense of humour. Know ye not that I must be about my Father's business?, and I always do those things which please my Father along with he was despised and rejected of men and stricken, smitten of God and afflicted seem to show different. Every scripture I have ever seen bear witness to sober minded dead seriousness in he that was too hated to mingle with heresy and rebellious sin.
---Frank on 2/16/07

Geesh you guys,do you really think that Jesus didn't laugh?good grief just looking at the dog that one the prize for being the ugliest dog,he too would've laughed.have you ever watched a monkey for a bit,I can't imagine him notlaughing at them. When one of my newborns smiled like he or she was looking at something that I couldn't see,I always thought that Jesus had come to coo at him or her.

The bible doesn't tell us that Jesus ever had to use the mens' room. It does say Jesus wept. When Jesus walked the earth, He was God and Man. He showed emotion. (At the temple with the money-changers).
Heb 1:9 "Therefore God, Your God, has anointed You (Jesus) with the oil of gladness more than Your companions." Jesus, God and Man, He laughed, He smiled.
---Cindy on 2/16/07

If Jesus was emotionless, the disciples would've had more difficulty in understanding. Jesus spoke many times in parables. Jesus was anointed with the oil of gladness. Our love cannot compare with the Love of Jesus. When you love someone and there is gladness in your heart, you smile, you laugh. You offer a heartfelt handshake, and pat someone on the back, you embrace, and you kiss cheeks.
---Cindy on 2/16/07

Helen, Jesus also went to parties, like at Cana, he ate in the homes of the humble, the rich, and tax collectors.

He was also was accused of being a wine bibbler, obviously because he consumed wine.

If you look hard enough, you will find he did have a fine sense of humor. In short, many were drawn to him, and he was not a legalistic sour puss.

That is why he would have enjoyed the game (and rooted for the Colts).
---John_T on 2/16/07

John T=== The very same Men that had represented John as crazed in His Intellects, represented our Lord Jesus as corrupt in His morals, wine-bibber. Ill- will never speaks well.

---Madison1101 on 2/15/07

JohnT: I agree with you. It is ridiculous that someone would think it is unspiritual, or sinful to watch the Superbowl. Christians who think they are better than me because my church does not have evening services really irk me.
---Madison1101 on 2/15/07

JohnT - Jesus acted, and was, holy all the time. It is interesting that Scripture does not record Jesus laughing. It does say that Jesus wept, He prayed etc.
---Helen_5378 on 2/15/07

Rebecca: A lot of larger churches are having small groups that meet in people's homes during the week. It is not for visiting, but for prayer and Bible study. In one group I used to belong to, we would have the pastor's sermon outline and discuss it in great detail using our Bibles to study the points he made on Sunday. We would also have prayer time for the church as well as the members of our group. It is from these small groups that deeper friendships and ministry opportunities grow.

A few years ago, my church did have a Superbowl party as an outreach, but that was because our Philadelphia Eagles were in the Superbowl, and we did not have services in the evening anyway. We have not had evening services in years. I have been there five years and they haven't had services in the evening since I have been there.
---Madison1101 on 2/15/07

John T-Jesus was even called a rebel and of the devil! I like your picture of him sitting with you munching and laughing.I think home churches are better than going to a church full of people. Its more intimate, more relationship, which Jesus was all about. He ate with sinners because thats who came here for.If we have a sense of humor, than so does He for we are made in his image, so laugh on!
---chestnut_burr on 2/15/07

I agree, w/ John T, please take your personal attacks elsewhere...i would definately have to say that the funniest SB commercial was the one snickers bar comercial, where the guys kiss and their like "quick, do something manly" haha and they rip out their chest hair...hahah i love it...if you want somemore laughs on their website is 3 alternative endings

Well I'm sorry, I just find it strange that anyone doesn't have church but instead of going to people's houses for visits. And people staying home just to watch a stupid game.
---Rebecca_D on 2/15/07

I posted this as a fun blog, but you, especially Rebecca, have turned it into a place to attack another.

No one but Jesus can judge how I worship him, and I can imagine him with me, sitting on my sofa, noshing Doritos, and laughing at some of the funny stuff they brodcast.

NOWHERE in Scripture do you see him acting prudish, and repressive. Remember, he was actually accused of being (God forbid!) a wine bibbler?
---John_T on 2/15/07

your absolutely right Ryan. No such verse to say we r 2 worship on Sunday the first day of the week..It is the 7th day that God rested from all His work. Not sunday. He said in the 4th commands, REMEMBER THE SABBATH DAY 2 KEEP IT HOLY.
---jana on 2/15/07

But we do worship in truth and in the spirit, Ryan. Going to church with the assembly is an excellent way to worship.

Even in the OT, there were synagogues where people used to go to worship.

I disagree with your stand.

Madison; In the OT the church wasn't called "church" it was called House of God, House of Worship, etc. Wasn't it you that said instead of having church on Superbowl night, that your church watched the game and had snacks in the fellowship hall. (in 2006) Did you do the same this year? Sue, how can you not like church? Do you not feel you should fellowhip with other Christians, as God told us to do? NVBarbara; it isn't backbitting, I just don't understand people's ways.
---Rebecca_D on 2/14/07

#1 As Christians we do not 'go' anywhere to worship. We are instructed to worship in Spirit and in truth. God does not keep a tally of how many times you enter a building that is called church; He looks to see if you have entered into the sabbath of His Son and subsequently into His Church.
---Ryan on 2/14/07

#2 If you are a Christian, worshiping in Spirit and in truth, than you worship Him everyday and every moment of your life belongs to God. Worship is not reserved for services in a building on Wednesday and Sunday so that you can put on an outward appearance of holiness to impress other people..

church is not contained in a building.this is about relationship with God which should be 24-7!there is scripture that says that the Holy Spirit will teach you and lead you into all don't have to hear it from someone else.
---chestnut_burr on 2/14/07

Just finding a church that has Sunday nights and Wednesday nights is hard now days. Seems to me that if a church wanted to reach the community where they are located, they would have lots of activities every day so that the community could actually go to them. Church should not be limited to just a couple of days a week. Why bother having a building if you're only using it for a couple hours on Sunday mornings? What a waste of God's money! Oops! Did you forget it is God's money?

Rebecca, it's cool that you love your church but I dont really like church. I feel closer to God when I'm alone or when I'm in nature or when I am with my children and mother. I watch church on TV sometimes, but only when I find a pastor worth watching which is not a lot. I did find a woman, Melissa Scott, who I'm really interested in though. Church does not make somebody better.

Rebecca: You are definitely rude right now. My church has worship service at 9:15 am on Sunday morning. Sunday School is at 11:00 am on Sunday morning. We have about 7 Growth Groups that meet during the week in people's homes. There people have prayer and Bible study. We also have a Women's Bible Study, and AWANA.

There is no rule that says a church has to have services on Sunday night or Wednesday night.

I may be wrong, but I thought that the early church met in homes.
---Madison1101 on 2/14/07

Rebecca, I thought that Jesus is the intermediary between God and humanity.

Since when did you replace Jesus?
---Observer on 2/14/07

You don't have church anytime at all? It bothers me because where do you go and get the word being taught to you? It bothers me because it is okay for you not to have church. You and the others like you do not have a desire to have a church. It is okay to go to one's house every now and then but in a house there are more distractions. Are you making anytime for God? Your church? you don't even have a church.
---Rebecca_D on 2/14/07

Rebecca: Where in the Bible does it say that you must attend church Sunday morning, Sunday evening and Wednesday evening? Not all Bible teaching churches have that many services.

My church no longer has Wednesday services either. We have small groups that meet throughout the week in people's homes. I do not belong to one yet, as I work three jobs at this time.

Madison; You can spend Monday, Tuesday, Thrusday, Friday and Saturday with your family. Leaving Wednesday and Sunday for God. Now how fair is that to God? Sounds like to me that God is getting a raw deal. But as the bible says anything you put between you and God, becomes your god.

I loved the under-dawg commercial. Facing lifes trials...the lowly mutt, when opportunity knocked, seized the moment & overcame adversity. I laughed & felt good about Ol' Bud's 15 minutes of fame. "Ain't that a kick in the head?" ;)

So, what was the product? Years ago I worked USAF national advertising. I learned no matter how entertaining a "spot" is, if the target market doesn't remember & isn't moved to buy "the product", advertiser dollars are wasted.
