This verse is Jn. 4:24 -notice one big thing here. "spirit" is in lower caps. "Spirit" = God or HS "spirit" = something else. i think the something else is our spirit or passion. i think God wants passionate worship but not all this clucking like the Toronto blessing, it must be mixed with truth. I think king David set the standard and he said "i will be even more undignified than this (dancing)" lose your pride and just worship but stay in the Bible.

Read this scripture closely 1st. Corinthian's 14:15," What is it then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the understanding also: I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also" this scripture tells me that praying with understanding(truth) is praying in a normal language. It also shows me that praying in the spirit is praying without understanding, therefore I believe praying in the spirit means in tongues

Guess what, I am still putting on God's music and preaching, And preaching mix in with some prophetizing. I can incorporate both behind these walls. God is getting me ready for bigger and better things. Watch out now, it's God.

Thanks. That will teach me not to use spell check.

For some Christians it's more brains & less [unction] of the Spirit, it should be the other way around, or else the Word will not be [fully] discerned(1 Corinthians 2:14). Bottom line, no one is ABLE to truly serve God in Spirit and in Truth, unless they are ABIDING IN/WALKING IN the Spirit/Truth. God can't fellowship with deceit.

Cal ... # 1 I found the following among your earlier posts. I have highlighted some corrections to your spelling errors
"Salvation is not our work,it is GOD'S, none of us choose GOD,but he chose you.
---alanUKquent64534 on 3/1/07

Cal ... # 2 What JESUS did on the cross is amazing, if any one thinks that he can lose his salvation, then what he is saying is that JESUS' death on the cross was all for nothing. We all fall short of the glory. If you say you don't sin you deceive yourself and the truth is not in you...we are all guilty..That's why JESUS' blood is so precious

Bruce, I too believe what you just said. People here do not want to hear what hermeneutics is, or for that matter what contexual meanings are. If you say such things it will only ruin what they have to say, which is outside of what God really meant on each passage. They will use any means possible to them to make sure you are not listened to by giving their own spin on what they think is correct, compromising the real Truth. It was a great explanation on the question of worship in Spirit and in Truth.

Bruce 5356== I like what you said, But man it was deep!
---catherine on 2/28/07

Bruce, the term is spelled hermeneutics.
---cal on 2/28/07

I'll never understand why people insist on putting their own spin on something that is so plainly laid out in scripture. A principle rule of hermunitics is to let the plain meaning of a passage in its context be the first meaning.

This happens here alot. When someone's idea of what a scripture means contradicts or is different from the plain meaning, they lay aside the plain, contextual meaning and promote their own.

It means to worship God in the beauty of holiness (Psalm 29:2). Some Christians attempt to worship God with unclean hands, are in denial about their unclean ways,God says this to them:(1 John 1:6,8)(2 Corinth.6:17,18).Only those who [continue] to walk in the saving-light of God's Truth are sanctified(John 8:31,32)(John17:17),able to worship God in Spirit & Truth, lifting up holy hands unto the Lord(1 Tim.2:8). Abiding in the Word is Liberty(2 Corinth.3:17)(Gal.5:1).God Bless!

I believe to worship in Spirit and in truth is more about the 'why' of worship. We worship God because He IS God and there is no other. Our worship therefore MUST be directed / orchestrated by the Holy Spirit (not by intellect) and MUST be in total honesty of our spirit and heart.

It means you must be walking in truth to be able to worship in Spirit and in Truth. Walking in truth is walking and obeying every word of God. Worship in the Spirit is described by Paul in 1st Corinthians.

John 4:20-24, "Our fathers worshipped in this mountain; and ye say, that in Jerusalem is the place where men ought to worship. Jesus saith unto her, Woman, believe me, the hour cometh, when ye shall neither in this mountain, nor yet at Jerusalem, worship the Father. the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: God is a Spirit"
---BRUCE5656 on 2/27/07

This passage has nothing to do with "praying in the Spirit" (tongues). The woman had observed that her forefathers said they had to worship God in this mountain and the Jews said God could only be worshiped in Jerusalem. Jesus said to her time is coming when people will worship God anywhere. Because God is a Spirit (and therefore is not confined to one particular place.)

Jesus was speaking of a time when the Spirit of God would indwell individuals (Christians) not places (temples etc.) In other words, worship in spirit and in truth is worship independent of any system of religious worship, ritual, place, litany, etc. All that is required is a sincere, (truthful) attitude toward God and a willing spirit.

It is this worshiping in the spirit that Paul had in mind in Phil 3:3, "For we are the circumcision, which worship God in the spirit, and rejoice in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh."
---BRUCE5656 on 2/27/07

If, worshiping in the Spirit (in the context of Phil 3:3 or John 4:20-24) meant tongues, then we would have to conclude a person could not be a Christian (circumcised in the heart) with out tongues, for worshiping God "in the spirit" is one of the three hallmarks of a true Christian according to Phil 3:3.

The only gifts that befit the nature of God are the gifts of the spirit--love, loyalty, obedience, devotion.

You missed something: "for the FATHER seeketh such to worship Him."

This is one of those many Trinitarian passages in the Bible that can go right past you if you're not careful.
