I'm a new Christian and try to walk by faith but keep tripping. Any suggestions on how to put myself aside and have complete faith in God always. Or is true faith today impossible?

What good is the Holy Spirit leading anyone into ALL truth if all we need is faith? Will anyone need faith in heaven? Try running across a busy street with your eyes shut by beliving you can do this in faith? (And no, I did not mean for you to really do this.)

Matthew from LA, I also welcome you back to the discussions on Scripture. If you learn one thing from coming back on line, it has had a purpose. Nothing is more important then to be open to the Word, and mature as a Christian. If I can ever help on a topic, I will do what I can to help. As a believer it is my duty to help and you decided if its helpful or not. Many times you might bring light to me on a subject that maybe I have not studied, and I will use it.

Welcome Sarah, All of the angels rejoiced when you became a Christian. I read what -MARK said in his comment, and he could not have said it better. Be very careful because you are going to have some here tell you that they already have it perfected, but that is their pride speaking, and God hates pride. Keep reading your Bible, and ask questions, but pray for guidance, because some will trip you to make you fall. But most here will try to give you good advice.

Matthew from LA-Did you ever wonder why Pilate said to Jesus "What is truth?" and realize that he was speaking to the person who spoke in John 14:6?

Jesus is the absolute/objective truth (of everything, all existence/reality), but 'this world' has little regard for OBJECTIVE truth. It is our SUBJECTIVE/biased understanding of TRUTH that is human nature. Stay and join in 'the quest for truth'.

Hebrews 11:1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen. Some people believe if they can't see it, touch it, smell it, hear it, in other words if it isn't tangible it isn't real. More people have more faith in their vehicles will start when turning the key more than they do in Christ Jesus working in their lives. Faith is like electricity, you can't see it work, but you can see the light. We all need to have more faith in Jesus, I know I do.
---Rebecca_D on 4/1/08

1) DrRich Christian faith isn't stumbling blindly in the dark, very much the opposite:

Hebrews 11:1 'Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.'

Romans 1:20 'For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities-his eternal power and divine nature-have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that all men are without excuse.'
---Warwick on 4/1/08

2) So our faith is being sure and certain, and because of His Creation we see around us no one has any excuse not to know that God is creator. Sure, certain, and obvious.

Doesn't sound much like stumbling in the dark to me, rather a positive, clear and present knowledge of God and His promises.

Praise God for that!

Dr Rich everywhere I read there you are passionately endeavouring to spread doubt and misinformation! But not very well.
---Warwick on 4/1/08

"Faith" is believing something that you can't see because you are in the dark. That is why you keep tripping. Paul want's to keep you there but Jesus said knowing the truth will get you out of darkness so you can see without tripping. Just remember: "Faith allowes one to believe in a lie without feeling guilty for searching for and knowing the truth"!
---Dr.Rich on 4/1/08

I would like to give a formal apology here on CN. After my departure from CN I have learned many things. God has taught me more and more about His love. I apologize for preaching the truth in the wrong light. For saying anything that did tearing down instead of building up. I will always stand by my beliefs, but God has taught me there is a wrong way to speak the truth and I am guilty of that.
---Matthew_from_LA on 4/1/08

I have also learned that God does not like anyone to debate over His word, which I am also guilty of. I don't see me posting much if not at all on CN ever again, so as to avoid debating. I would also like to apologize even to the Moderatot. It wasn't out of love, the things I have said to you in the past. God wants some of you to stay and maybe it's because you can handle it better, I don't know. We must think about what we say before we say it, even in our spoken words.
---Matthew_from_LA on 4/1/08

The internet is a blessing, because you have a lot of time to "think" about what you have to say. Utilize that, all of you. You don't want to regret any of your words because you cannot take them back. Remember what Jesus said in Matthew 12:37.

Why is anybody still talking about FAITH?

"walk by the SPIRIT" (Galatians 5:16 and 25).

Look in the Christian bible (one that has not been corrupted beyond recognition, KJV or RSV is best, not the NKJV).

Children stumble when learning to walk, So does a new Child of God.
Everyone's stumbled at the Word of God at one time or another.
Prophecies and the realities of what's going on right now in the World, ASURES me of his TRUTH'S, Which has made me a man "Beyond" just Faith, I KNOW!
God measures a man by his "Faith", Not, how much money he has or if he is a King or a Poor man on the street, God is a respecter of NO man, IT'S our FAITH that Divides us from the Ungodley
---Duane_Dudley_Martin on 3/31/08

Biblical faith is a kind of limited personal knowledge of God.>>>Throughout the scriptures faith is the trustful human response to God's self-revelation via His words and His action. God initiates the relationship between Himself and Human beings. He expects people to trust Him, failure to trust Him was in essence the first sin [Gen. 3:1-7]. Since the fall of humanity God nurtures and inspires trust in Him through what He says and does for the benefit of people who need Him.

"...the GREATEST of these..." (1 Corinthians 13:13) is LOVE (God is LOVE). Do not "faith" God (yes, our faith should be BORNE out of love, but do not "faith" Him, LOVE Him).

Neither walk by FAITH just because the apostles said they did (no apostle is my hero, only GOD is my hero), "WALK BY THE SPIRIT" (Galatians 5:16 and 25), but ONLY if you LIVE BY the spirit, you LIVE BY the spirit?

True faith is to believe that there is one God who is almighty and therefore people have no free will. Everything what happens to us is preordained. And if you profess this truth you are saved no matter what.

I've beenChristian 22 years. There is a message inscripture for carnal minds and a message for spiritual minds. I have faith in the laws of physics also, but I don't love them. "walk by the spirit" Galatians 5:16 and 25. We read the introductory doctrine of Jesus (Hebrews 6:1)"word of truth" 2 Timothy 2:15, Ephesians 1:13, "sword of the spirit" Ephesians6:17John 14:6. The word weshould live by John 10:27. JON7:38Rev7:16 mixed with blood at the cross."depths of God".

You keep tripping because you are a baby. When babies first start to walk they fall and trip a lot. This example will help you understand where you are in your walk with the Lord. You(babies) fall and trip a lot in the first stages of their walking. But it gets better and easier as the days goes by.This is where a good mature friend(discipleship) comes in. She will help you stay on track until you learn to walk(with God) without falling so much.Keep reading the word, going to church.

sarah - Here is another example of walking by faith. "I have been crucified with Christ, It is no longer I that live, but Christ that lives in me, and the life that I now live, I live by faith in the Son of God, etc.," Living by faith is living by the Word of God, doing what it says to do, and believing and trusting in GOD to bring it to pass in your life.

Romans 12:3 each is given a measure of faith. Faith is strengthened and grows by feeeding on and meditating on the Word. You cannot pray for more faith, for you have already been given all you need. It grows as you study, pray, worship. Yes, you will trip, you will fall. That's where 1John 1:9 comes into play. Just keep getting up and learn from your mistakes. You will see your faith get stronger and you will trip less and less. It's a process. God bless you and give you the wisdom you need.

Have you sat in a chair lately and not fallen? have you stepped on the ground lately and it not moved? so is the same with Christ. You trust that he is going to make to keep you midst of your new surroundings. He'll always be steady ground under your feet. Faith grows with experience and it sounds to me the fact the you have tripped and got back up, you have the faith. Stay with the Lord, He has given you all the faith you need for today. He has already taken care of tommorrow.
---Clara on 3/30/07

There are no short cuts to the walk of faith. Becoming a Christian is just the beginning of the walk of faith. The more of you that you give to God the easier it will be to walk by faith (which is walking according to the Word of God instead of emotions, feelings, and sight). The key is get into the Word of God until the Word of God gets in you and pray, pray, pray. This is how you can build on your relationship with God. I trust this will help. God bless and keep you.

We can not walk by faith without the Holy Spirit. He is to be our Comforter. Yet the unwise virgins did not have enough oil of the Holy Spirit to make it to the end. If we do not ask we will not recieve and if we do not ask then how can we continue in faith? we must admit that on our own "we can do nothing."

We walk by faith. It is a walk you don't complete here on earth. True faith is possible and alive and well in Christian hearts. The Bible says, "But without faith it is impossible to please Him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him." Hebrews 11:6

It seems that we have faith worshippers here.

People who think that the measure of faith God has given them is what everyone can will and should have.

Worse are people who take great pride in their faith when all the while their ability to understand spiritual things is a gift.

Un-Christlike is the person who cannot meet the people with weak faith at their level for fear of shame. TRUST ME, my faith isn't wobbly.

StevenG the dream giver is a parable of a person's journey through life with God.

I'm reading it for entertainment, but I find it often parallells my own experiences in the Holy Spirit.

I don't use it as doctrine. How can something that makes me want to praise and serve God be evil? (note: I'm only four chapters in)

Pharisee: "...but I have to give the credit to Bruce Wilkinson for that one, I'm reading the dream giver, and it's very inspiring." The Bible warns us about getting inspired by reading fables, or in your case, novels. They are not trustworthy to give Biblical truth. It seems like everyone is writting a novel these days to tell their version of the Truth.

Pharisee: "...but it's not black and white as you suppose either." "It's your insistant wobbly return to faith that is faith." I suggest studying the Bible again. Faith is plainly defined in the Bible from the beginning of Genesis to the end of Revelation - and has plenty of samples to learn from. Most Christians have only bits and pieces of Biblical knowledge. They learn the Bible a verse here and a verse there, therefore not having a strong foundation in faith.

James 1:25 But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.

Walking by faith is walking in the liberty you have received by Grace through the blood of the new covenant, James said faith without works is dead, he not speaking of the works of the law or flesh but the works of the Holy Spirit being done in you . Paul called it the law of the Spirit of life.

Hebrews 3:15 While it is said, To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts, as in the provocation.

Walking by faith means you must be sensitive to the voice of the Spirit, as Abraham who is our example heard the voice of the Spirit of God and obeyed him and the hearing and obeying was accounted to him for righteousness not living by rules or some mans ideas of how you should live but hearing and obeying the Spirit and not man.
---Exzucuh on 3/25/07

Many people today are led by the doctrines and teachings of people who have ideas that are very close to scripture and sound good, if they could only hear what the Spirit is saying they would turn from these things and enter into their rest
but they are perishing and making every kind of excuse why they must suffer like man at the pool of Bethesda, Jesus asked him do you want to be whole.

by taking up what ever it is that is hindering you and following the instructions of the Spirit. It's not by might or power but by my Spirit says's the Lord. karen, If a person sinks they will perish unless saved again by the only one able to save. Double-mindedness is sin. There are many whom desire to wallow in sin and also desire to have salvation, but this is not possible. Christians must learn to say "Yes to Jesus Christ always and at all times", and Christians must equally learn to say "No to Sin always and at all times", for nothing less is acceptable to God. "Let every one that names the name of Christ depart from sin."

I agree with todays technology and availiable vices its quicker and easier to sin than ever.sooooo many idols, and circumstances that attract our attention away from truth and light. one might think it would become harder to justify our actions but seems we as humans have become even better at ignoring truth in place of comfort,or just plain denying we even have a problem.we have accepted life, with all its trappings.

What happens if you do sink Eloy? Does he lose his salvation? And what does he have to do in order to gain what he had? Does he have to be saved again?
---karen on 3/24/07

Sister Sarah, everyone that is saved try's to walk by faith as much as they can. Circumstances sometimes change our behavior, but we know that our faith is Christ, and that we do want to accomplish everything God wants from us but we do fail, we are mortal. Just think of this, by posting your problem, many here answer you with faith that you might correct your faults. By posting your problem, this problem has now become a duty with all those who answer, and their own faith grows.

When a baby begins to walk it's normal for him to stumble as is not steady enough or has strength enough to hold himself up. You are a baby Christian and the Lord will have patience with you. Faith comes by hearing and hearing the Word of God. The more you read your Bible, the more your faith will increase and the more you will have willpower to follow Him correctly. So don't condemn yourself. Pray, read the Bible and spend time in praise and worship. Welcome to the family of God!

Trying is another way of striving. Quit trying to produce the evidence of faith!
The Father(God) knows your heart and your willingness to understand how to rest in the ease and inner poise of the H.S. and the evidence of your fsith, is really recognition that you are Not a self-operating self. We all, as flesh manifest are either expressions of the false vine or of the True Vine, so there is no such thing as a self-independent selfhood.

Pray morning, noon, and night for him to place the Holy Spirit in you. commit your way to the Lord and He will make your righteousness shine like the dawn. Spend a lot of quiet time with him. Don't fill your time up with ipods, computers, tv, etc. Take daily walks with him. Ask him questions in conversation. He loves you very much.

I do not know anyone whom walks in faith all the time. When all hell (trouble) is breaking lose around you, it is hard to have faith, let alone to keep it. When I am weak he is strong. But I stand on God's word. I tell God what he said in his word, I know that God knows and I know what he says. Because once a person knows God's word and believes it, God has to abide by his promises.

Possibly you are confused about what faith is. The Bible teaches that we are given a measure of faith, that it comes from HEARING the WORD of God (Bible),and that it is'the substance of things HOPED for and the evedence of things NOT seen'. It also says 'we are to walk by faith : not by sight'. So, you know that you already have SOME faith and you can GET more by reading your Bible and DEVELOP by just believing firmly in things even when you don't see them. It'll get better with practice.

First of all PRAISE THE LORD for another sister.

When a person is first saved it is like a baby trying to walk for the first time. When you trip get up and try again it takes a while to get through the first steps. Eventually "walking" (worshipping, reading, seeking, understanding...) will get easier. We all trip and fall, it just hurts more whan we get older; spiritually as well as physically. Just keep reaching for Jesus as Peter did.
---MARK on 3/23/07

With God all things are possible, Matthew 19:26.

Walking with God means putting Him first and trusting that He will guide you. Sometimes this is easier said than done - accepting Jesus as your savior is one thing, but truely letting Him into your heart and soul is another. Whenever you think about doing something, ask God if this is what He would want for you. And recall that He is better than Santa Clause, He not only knows what you have done, but also what you are thinking of doing.

You can start the day full of faith believing God for good things and return home smashed and afraid as well.

It's your insistant wobbly return to faith that is faith. It's human to lose sight when it's sight we rely on most and see nothing develop from our faith, it's divine to return again believing when no one else could.
---Pharisee on 3/23/07

sarah, let's define what walking by faith is, okay? First, you're trying to walk by faith in the flesh, meaning by your own fleshly strength, that's why your failing.
Walking by faith is having a relationship with Jesus, and believing what He says is TRUTH, and doing what the word of God says to do. TRUST in the Lord with ALL your heart. Lean NOT on your own understanding. In ALL your ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct your paths- that's faith. Forgive by faith and it shall be forgiven you.
