Answer to a heartily prayer gives three kinds of answer which I do understand it is miraculously God gives us to discern His answer.
First God says Yes to an answer which means you can have it immediately.
Second God says No.
Third God says You wait.
In this three discerning power should be practice.Checking is discerning.

Fasting is the weapon that makes the Word, prayer ,faith and the anointing more real in one lives.Generally the answer is not felt immediately but it seems that there is a six months time frame effect.Depending on the lenght and intensity and regularity of the person doing a fast.

I love that you said that Dory Lory, and find that encouraging, I remember on May 5th, years ago, it was the National Day of Prayer and Fasting, so I did, I was on my nees no wind at all outside, I was praying about an important matter, the windows shook and immediately the phone rang, and a strange lady called, and told me something so profound, and personal, I GOT MY ANSWER IMMEDIATELY, that was my breakthrough!!!Hallelujiah.

In my opinion, the greatest benefit to fasting is that it will make you more sensitive to the Holy Spirit.

In need Ezra 8:21

When worried Daniel 6:18

** If fasting (as outlined in the Scriptures) is for our benefit only, and does not move God; how do you reconcile having faith for repeating/reading God's Word to move Him?**

It's NOT to move God--as if we could force God (Who alone is totally free) to do anything--but to put us in tune with HIS will and make us more sensitive to His leading.

Prayer and fasting was part of my own spirtual conversion experience. It was definitely of value and continues to be of value. Fasting opens your mind to the poor and hungry as well as to God. It makes you aware of your own mortal shell. Fasting combined with prayer brought me closer to God. And from that experience I learned to truly submit to God's will. I can now put myself into His hands and not worry. Before I always held something back.

Fasting for weightloss is all for self.
Fasting and prayer, to humble ourselves before God, not a public display - is Scriptural.

Pray His Word in faith;
Brian, that sounds like a mixture of the Word Faith/Christian Science doctrine which can lead to mental exercises with God's Word.
"This kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting." (also Mark 9:29

Acts 13:2 = As they ministered to the Lord, and fasted, the Holy Ghost said,
Separate me Barnabas and Saul for the work whereunto I have called them.

Acts 13:3 = And when they had fasted and prayed, and laid their hands on them,
they sent them away.

Acts 14:23 = And when they had ordained them elders in every church, and had
prayed with fasting, they commended them to the Lord, on whom they believed.

Acts 27:33 = And while the day was coming on, Paul besought them all to take
meat, saying, This day is the fourteenth day that ye have tarried and continued
fasting, having taken nothing.

1st Corinthians 7:5 = Defraud ye not one the other, except it be with consent for a
time, that ye may give yourselves to fasting and prayer; and come together again,
that Satan tempt you not for your incontinency.

I personally dont believe that Fasting and Prayer gets us breakthroughs. Fasting is for our benefit, and does not move God to do anything, but on the other hand, when we pray His Word in faith, He will honour His Word and answer our Prayer.(1Jn 5:14-15)
