Word Faith Negative Confessions

Some churches teach that we should never say we feel ill as the devil can hear and then we will become more ill. Similarly some word-faith teachers say we should not make 'negative confessions' like "I'll never get that job" because then we won't. What do you think of these attitudes?

The only way we can cause anything to happen by speaking is if you're actually prophesying according to the Word of God. Elijah said it would not rain except at his word, but he was prophesying. It's not like you can accidentally curse yourself out of a job. Now you can speak volgarly and not be blessed because of your disobedience, but you're not God. All of creation trembles at the sound of His voice, not yours! Your tongue has the power to bless and to curse, but it's not something accidental, like, "I'll never find a job." How many times did you find one after you said that? Stick to the bible, not to filthy rich preachers who live in luxury while people in there churches go homeless!

Leslie,we as humans dont change anything with our words.Let the Truth be known,Isa 46:10 Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying,My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure:
Ecc.1:8 All things are full of labour, man cannot utter it:the eye is not satisfied with seeing, nor the ear filled with hearing. Ecc 1:9 The thing that hath been,it is that which shall be,and that which is done is that which shall be done:and there is no new thing under the sun.Eph 1:11 In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will: There's lots more if you need it.

This is true. The Bible says that there is power of life and death in our tongues. Science can also prove this (Quantum Physics) says that if you say "This car is a piece of junk", then the car will start to break down. Satan may not hear it, but you speak curses on yourself when you speak negative words. It is much better to speak blessings on yourself.
---Leslie on 10/4/08

I know some Jewish people whom believe this misunderstanding of the spoken word, they wrongly believe that whomever has the last word will get whatever they say. It is called superstition, which wrongly professes that every thing we say has supernatural power which alters reality into exactly whatever we say. It is a false belief, for if it were true then I would have exactly all that I ever desired out of life.

Mary. The reason people deny that they are getting a cold when they are actually in the process of getting one is because many times it works to deny. I do it all the time and very seldom get all the things that go around. I find it works much better to deny it then to accept it.

m.p.a: It sounds like more of Norman Vincent Peale's The Power of Positive thinking. I remember when Psycho-cybersynetics was very popular in the 70's and 80's. Much of your psycho-junk food..."I'm ok you're ok" came out then. It feeds the flesh. It's so much in the Church today. Romans 6 says we are crucified with Christ. Unfortunately, the Preaching of the Cross is a big joke among many professing Christians. Apostasy is here, and so few recognize it for what it is.
---kathr4453 on 4/16/07

There is a grain of truth in the WOF teachings. We should always be positive. One way to be positive is to praise the Lord for any given situation as it exist right now. By praising the Lord in this manner you bring the Lord into the situation. Remember the Lord inhabits the praises of his people so by praising him you can solve many problems.
---Mima on 4/13/07

catherine, Word Faith is a religion unto itself. It is not biblical. It leaves Jesus completely out of it. You become your own answer to prayer, not asking but speaking/demanding desired answers.
Some people even put ernest money down on large homes, speaking the down payment into existence. Some go bankrupt this way, or get into the home and cannot make the payments. "Money Cometh", and it does not.
---Diane on 4/13/07

Our victory in Jesus is complete and it is not tied to this early existence in the way that our finite minds often go. Our victory is that we are now children of God, no longer his enemies. Our spirit, which was once dead, is now alive. The fact that we will see him face to face and ever live in his presence is the victory. The fact that sin no longer has legal reign in my life is the victory. What I have gained in Christ causes me to view every/any earthly gain as, at best, filthy rags.

catherine, Good point. God's [true] people don't live a life of deceit, but rather a new and living way through Christ Jesus(Hebrews 10:20). Amen. God Bless!
---Mrs._Morgan on 4/13/07

m.p.a., If people do things the way God says to do them, they are safe, problem is that many Christians put their own spin on God's Word, distorting It,God isn't pleased,He don't deal with deceit. We ask in prayer according to His will & we don't doubt Him, period, any thing else is one's own "spin", getting into the "flesh",not good. Many Christians are ignorant to the ways of the enemy & many are [partaking] in his foul ways, reason why most of the Church is apostate. God Bless!

Laura, The "big" names mean nothing to me. The only name I'm concerned with these days I Jesus. And, WoF misuses that name - for personal agendas and selfish ambition. Scripture says there will be those who say to him...didn't I do this and that, and didn't I prophesy in your name?... and his reply will be, "Depart from me, I never knew you." How many will be mislead into thinking they're ok, because their "confession" fits the formula.

Word of Faith teachers do not have a lesser ratio of cancer and sickness than others. These ministers know one another, they teach the same doctrine, and share the same stories. . .and sickness is common among them and their families. It is unusual for a specific group that teaches the same doctrine of healing to have a higher percentage of their families to be struck with cancer. Is God telling them something? Are they or their followers taking notice? No, that would be a negative confession...

E.W. Kenyon in the Hidden man on pg.99 wrote,

"I know that I am healed because he said that I am healed and it makes no difference what the symptoms may be in my body."

An example would be if they are coughing and you say you have a cough they respond by no I dont, I havent had a cough in years. Thats called denial of reality at best, and lying at worst.

E.W. Kenyon studied at Emerson College of Oratory in Boston which was a time for emerging New Age thought. They imagined they have discovered laws of faith, promoting a Christianized version of occultism.
Kenyon had divorced his wife even when he taught that what one speaks they will possess. E.W Kenyon who is the Father of the Word of Faith Movement taught divine healing and that it was always God's will to heal. But he died in a coma, brought on by a malignant tumor. He died from disease.

"It is not God's will for any to be sick (Healing the fathers Provision, p.9 ) I believe that it is the plan of our father that no believer should be sick that every believer should live his life to full time and actually wear out if Jesus tarries then fall asleep in Jesus. I state boldly that it is not the will of God my father that we should suffer with cancer and other dread disease and reap pain and anguish. No its God's will that we should be healed."

RebeccaD, Actually, it says that He did/does. There is not, as WoF would erroneously imply, instruction for us to do so. So much of WoF is taking things out of context, and "reading between the lines." I think scripture is pretty clear - and any "reading between the lines" is presumptious and arrogant - at least to assume one can read the mind of God.

Diane, I will claim my miracles from God. God tells us to speak things as though they already are. Speak things into existance. I don't mean stupid things that we don't need. Like boat, camper, etc. I'm talking about situations where all hell breaks loose and you're back is against the wall, you've done all you can do. Claim the victory in Jesus name, and the victory shall be yours. That is what I'm talking about.

Diane, Yes I was, from first introduction to leaving, in it for 8+ years, 5 of which were in leadership - worship leader, choir director, women's ministry leader, & teacher. I was even on staff toward the end of my deception. It is a selfish, man centered "gospel". Laura hit the nail on the head as far as much of it's origin. E.W. Kenyon was one of the authors/teachers we studied. The problem is they mix a little truth with every lie - so is very seductive.

There is the Jesus Way, pathway to healing and there is the Word Faith way. They are very different.

Word Faith has metaphysical/cultic roots and
the Jesus Way is all Scriptural. Word Faith is so much a part of the evangelical culture that it's hard for many to tell the difference.

"Name it and claim it." "blab it and grab it." I wonder what God thinks about those derogative statements that are used by those who don't believe God will do what He says? "Ask and you shall receive." "Ask anything, believing that you have it, and my father in heaven will give it." This is what the Bible says. Can't you claim what God's word says is yours?

Christ said "Seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness and all these things shall be added unto you." Mt 6:33. But if a person has sin or a hinderance in their life, God won't move in their life. God won't bless sin.

We cannot name it and claim it. First and foremost, it must be based solely on what God's Word says we have. 2nd we cannot rule out anyway God chooses to use. Healing... I know a woman who was healed of cancer solely by speaking the Word. Medically documented. I know a man who had surgery on his heart and he healed much faster than he should have. God uses many ways to get what we need to us, but faith in His Word is what brings it to us. I don't believe in name it claim it. I believe His Word.
---betty8468 on 4/12/07

Rickey, there is a huge difference between the 'woman with the issue of blood' and people involved in the word-faith movement. She did not just have faith in Jesus being able to help her, she had a real need of His help and that help was given because of her faith. Most, in the word-faith movement do not have a need but there is plenty of greed. Jesus did not die to satisfy our greed.
---m.p.a. on 4/12/07

If anyone said to you, 'you are not saved, your belief in salvation through Jesus is false,' would you not laugh them off and walk away. No one can tell you you're not saved because you have already experienced Jesus for yourself. In the same way, you cannot tell someone who has drawn on the power of the Word of God through faith, that their belief is false. You can't tell them it isn't from God because they've already experienced it for themselves.
---DoryLory on 4/11/07

You can refer to faith people by any derogatory name you want, you can list your reasons for what it does or doesn't do, you can twist the quotes to your hearts desire, none of that will have any effect on them because they've already experienced it for themselves.

The Word of God is the Word of LIFE (1 John 1:1), it is the power that sustains ALL things (Hebrews 1:3). The Word of God WORKS in those who believe (1 Thessalonians 2:13). It works! You just gotta believe.

Teachings of the Faith movement are very attractive to some. If we can produce whatever our hearts desire by simply demanding what we want by faith, we can manipulate the universe and perhaps even God.

Nothing will create more euphoria than the promise to make them wealthy, and this the Word-Faith leadership knows very well. The Word-Faith teacher's lifestyle is clearly identified by opulence, luxury, riches, and the assurance that all of this can be his followers as well -- if only they apply certain principles.
"Being poor is a sin, when God promises prosperity. New house? New car? That's chicken feed. That's nothing compared to what God wants to do for you."

"If you've got one dollar faith and you ask for a ten-thousand dollar item, it ain't going to work. It won't work. He said, 'According to your faith, be it unto you'"

Of course, the road to prosperity somehow always leads to the offering plate of the Word-Faith Movement.

Reality, in the form of sickness, has to be faced even by the "Word-Faith Leaders". "We don't allow sickness in our home," but WFL's wife still has cancer. WFL brags that he has not had a headache, flu, or even "one sick day" in nearly 60 years, but has had four cardiovascular crises. "Confess it and possess it"
"Name it and claim it"
"Blab it and grab it"
"Speak it into existence"
"Snared by the word"

Just a few of the sayings that reveal the god of Word Faith/Positive Confession

You are taught to program your minds with "success doctrine" and to speak only "positive".
---BlabitGrabit on 4/11/07

"Positive" is defined as any person, thought, word, deed, event or circumstance that promotes Word Faith. "Negative" is anything that stands in the way of WF(including the Truth of Gods Word).

Word Faith believers are taught to refine their skills in a practice known as self-talk.
---BlabitGrabit on 4/11/07

The WF devotee engages in endless, repetitive verbalization(aloud or internalized) of scriptures, positive affirmations to build up self-esteem or vivid word-pictures of a desired outcome.
These extracted and adapted teachings from a hodge-podge of metaphysical practices.
The WF teachings, with their focus on greed and materialism constitute the religion of choice for the god of WF.

Properly understand the inherent dangers of the god of Word Faith teachings.

To all of you who claim the Word of Faith is false I say believe what you will. I know it to be true from personal experience. Since you say it is false then you say that Jesus is a liar for in His own words Mark 11:23-24. I used to be like you until I checked it out for myself. Also read Romans 10:8-11. Are you saved? If you did not confess it with your mouth , then you are not. Faith is acting on and confessing the Word of God. Nothing more. If you don't believe that then I wonder what you do believe.

Here is something spoken from a Word Faith /positive confession teacher. You will hear this at most any conference you attend.
"When we prophesy, we breathe with the breath of God's breath..when we speak, our words have the power of the breath of God to create a situation and make it come to pass. That's why God wants us to prophesy. Prophesying is creating it to happen."

Laura, I think Betty is right. Having faith in the Word is what this is all about. According to you if we have faith in the word and believe in what we don't see we are involved in some kind of metaphysical cult but all we are doing is being obedient to the word. When we pray for someone we pray the prayer of faith, not unbelief, right? So what's so devilish about that?

First, thank you Rickey. #2 Laura, how do you get saved?...By believing in your heart that Jesus is the Son of God and was raised from the dead AND by confessing with your mouth that He is Lord. Confession is saying what you believe. If you believe the Word of God you confess it with your mouth. The Holy Spirit is the power behind the confession. He is the One Who brings you the fruit of your confession. I won't have to worry about it not "working" because my God is faithful to perform His Word.
---betty8468 on 4/10/07

Speak things into existiance, just as God did.

If we can speak things into existence what would happen if two people living next door to each other spoke the opposite into existence? One neighbour wants it to rain because his vegetable patch needs watering. The other wants sunshine because he has a week off work and wants to sunbathe in his garden. I know it's possible for there to be rain one side of a fence and not the other but I don't think that this is how God answers prayer. Arn't we told to pray according to HIS will?
---m.p.a. on 4/10/07

Betty is exactly right. No one said deny the situation. But if a person does dwell on it they will make it worse & hinder God. A prime example of healing is the woman with the issue of blood. She kept saying to herself, 'If I could but touch the hem of His garment I shall be made whole'. She spoke what she believed, not how she felt. In faith a person should hold fast their confession of faith until they see what they are confessing. It's like a pregnant woman. She holds the child until the time of birth.
---Rickey on 4/10/07

Helen. The Bible says you are fine even if you are sick. You are fine even if you die. The lie is that if I'm sick, I'm not fine. That's the real lie. If I am sick and someone asks me how I am I say I'm fine because I really am. "I" am not the physical "I" am the born again, spiritual and "I" am fine.

"The modern father of the Faith Movement was E. W. Moreover it will lead the unsaved who embrace this as their faith, only to find it a trap-door."

"The basic teaching of positive confession is summed up in the saying, What I confess, I possess. It is the belief that a person can bring into existence what he speaks with his mouth. "Positive Confession even appeals to witchcraft as proof that the power of the spoken word (Rhema) works. Simply because something works does not mean that it is of God though (Mt. 12:22-28; Deut. 13:1-5). Despite the dangers, positive confession teachers promote pagan practices which are pantheistic (all is God) in the sense that faith is a power that one taps into."
---Laura on 4/10/07

"Dont try to understand it. Just start to enjoy it! This is the same response a person in the New Age would give. God tells His children repeatedly to test the spirits (1 Jn. 4:1). It is a personal God that determines what happens in a believers life and not some impersonal power of positive confession in ones words."
---Laura on 4/10/07

"Positive confession adherents claim supernatural inspiration for their teachings, the source of revelation is shown to not come from God or His Word. Interestingly, many spirit guides encourage their mediums to promote positive confession. The popular craze in angels has also lent support and endorsement to the teachings of positive confession. Many of these mediums and angels refer to the same biblical proof texts as the faith teachers use."
---Laura on 4/10/07

"Rather than finding support from the Bible for positive confession the teachings of the movement can be traced to the Mind Sciences. And, by the way, going around saying you feel fine when you are really sick is lying.
---Helen_5378 on 4/10/07

part 1: Not only is it a false teaching, in the case of healing it is also lying to yourself. Try telling yourself when you are truly sick, or even sad and heartbroken, "I am well and in perfect health, I feel happy and overjoyed." When you speak contrary to the truth, you deny and betray the truth. Confession of truth is the first step in healing, and not the confession of untruth.

You don't go to the healer and say you are well, when in fact you are not; that is called delusion, and if you believe it than it is reality. You will not find any place in scripture where the sick denied the truth that they were sick, and by doing so they were well or became well.
