Because they do not believe in me. Scripture is letting you know what true Salvation is also why Jesus assended into heaven. It is expedient for me to go away, Why? People not seeing Him anymore will contribute something towards the removal of their prejudices. Also, that it was hard to convince the people-- of God's righteousness when they went about establishing their own righteousness. [But the Spirit will do this].>>>Cont.

Cont. He shall convince the world that Jesus of Nazareth was Christ the righteous. [As the centurion owned. Certainly this was a righteous man]. [Luke 23-47]. Now this was not a saved man by no stretch of your imagination.>>>> Crucify Him, Crucify Him, And when Jesus was nailed to the cross, their mouths stopped, their conscience starled. They smote their breasts, and went away. The impression soon wore off. They did not show anymore token of respect to Christ.

There is a world, that believe not in Jesus Christ, and they do not know it is THEIR SIN. The spirit shall convince the world that the true reason why sin reigns among them is because they are not by faith united to Christ. Also the Spirit will convince the world of JUDGMENT. That the prince of this world [Satan] was judged. He is a deceiver and a destroyer. He was cast out of the souls of people, who did not believe that he even existed.

"Why do we have to deal with an obscure reference to the sin of unbelief?"

Answer. Because whether the reference is "obscure" or not, the motive which prompted the referenced inquiry, is clear & relevant. The grace of faith working through love is the most important aspect of the christian walk. Without which, one can not please the Father, nor truly embrace His salvation.

I certainly know what the sin of unbelief in Jesus is, as do all believers. But, I never heard of it being so clumsily presented from Scripture. Many times in the Gospel of John, Jesus clearly declared that he was the Son of Man, and the Messiah. Why do we have to deal with an obscure reference to the sin of unbelief? Not believing that Jesus is your Messiah and blood sacrifice to forgive you of your sins, that is Unbelief.

"What is this sin of unbelief?" The sin that so easily besets us all. Unbelief-is to speak or respond without faith, unpersuadable, obstinate & rebellious-It is a self-willed refusal to confidently enter into The Father's rest. Unbelieving are those given to possess a knowledge of God & pursues the law of righteousness, yet has not arrived, why? Because they do not seek righteousness thru the faith of Christ Jesus, but rather the works of the law.

When the Jesus returns, shall He find faith in the earth? That will be what He is searching for. Faith exercised thru love. A faith that empowers & embraces a patience & endurance that stands in the face of the Anti-christ.

Unbelief is quite simply the absolute root of all sin. For if you knew God was watching you sin and believed you'd stop in your tracks and if not today then very soon or you'd wreck your faith and kill the spirit's flame and that's a lonely thought if you're saved.

From just those verses that you quoted I can only surmise that the sin of unbelief here is not believing that Jesus is the Son of God.
