Read your bible and ask the Holy Spirit for guidance and understanding first. Even though we(Christians) may have different revelation(views) we should and will come into agreement on the overall text. Actually Christians should always try to come into agreement on varying subjects. We should pray and ask the Lord for this unity. Does not matter the denominations.

Sound doctrine is doctrine that is louder than unsound doctrine...I jest.
---Eloy on 9/16/07

Sound doctrine means sound teaching. To teach the exegetical meaning of scripture that is able to be confirmed in biblical text. It is teaching and practicing its exegetical meaning in Christian community. In other words, Titus 2 is advocating to teach good things that become a part of the Christian life and culture. This teaching is to line up wholely with other biblical text without breaching or changing the focus of New Testament theology.

Jesus answered them, and said, My doctrine is not mine, but his that sent me. If any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself. He that speaketh of himself seeketh his own glory: but he that seeketh his glory that sent him, the same is true, and no unrighteousness is in him. John 7:16-18

If anyone is preaching and teaching anything different from what is in the bible it is false doctrine. Their preaching/teaching and preferably their life, should line up with the Word of God. If they are way off base, then the chances are their teachings are false. We are not to just depend upon someone elses' teachings and preachings, either. We are to read and study for ourselves and ask the Lord to help us to understand what His Word is saying to us.
---Robyn on 6/1/07

I thank you b/c of the way you said it...yes God said it first but the way you put it into words..the way God designed you to communicate allows us to understand the same subject in a different sense.

mike, sound?weak?outright false?there is only one truth.the word of God,which happens to be jesus.the problem with doctrine is many people don,t agree on what is sound.weak is not of God as is false.I believe God,and his son,and everyone else I test thru the word.

Why do you thank me? I'm just a messenger. Thank God who speaks through me.

Excellent, Bill. In this day, Christians have more to distract them than ever. World events, contention over belief systems, even over the benefits Father God offers His children...all seem like good things to get involved in but they are still distractions that take us away from the true purpose of reveal His Son in and through us and to reach broken, hurting, dying humanity.
---Linda on 5/21/07

"Lift up your eyes" and "set your mind on things above where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God" are prophetic Scriptures that, having been once said, are to be walked in every day. "Seeing then that you have"...if you see it, you have it. And you'll never see it if you don't lift up your eyes.
---Linda on 5/21/07

Thats a great word steveng

The ONLY way to discern true doctrines from false is to have a true loving relationship with God - not a true relationship with a religion. The deeper the relationship with God, the better the discerning. The closer your relationship with God the more He will reveal. How do you get close? Just like a friend, the more you learn about each other the closer you two become. To begin to get close to God is to read the Bible from beginning to end. It's his resume with His people.
---Steveng on 5/20/07

The Bible is like a 50 micron filter. Pour doctrine in & what remains is pure. The scripture proves itself in 3's. Just as it takes 3 sides to square a building it works in the Bible. If an understanding of a verse doesn't pass the "filter" then look for like verses & compare context 'til that matches God's total word. Some today have twisted the Word to match their theology & even have mystery names for doctrines they believe but don't really match the Word. Stay with the Book...

The most important meaning off each scripture is NOT the doctrine or knowledge, but how this scripture helps you to love...there is always the LOVE meaning which is more and better than you can think...God's own His love has us living the scripture. So, we can get DECOYED to issues about things that are not helping us to love, but only to argue and get confused.
---Bill_bila5659 on 5/13/07

For example > "Do all things without complaining and disputing," (Philippians 2:14) > God's love so beautifully pleasant will make us so we have no complaining INSIDE ourselves!!! Worry is a form of complaining, and so are depression and paranoia and unforgiveness. He will change us so we are naturally "thankful" (Colossians 3:15) in His love's peace. THIS is BASIC for what will happen in love, but complicated scripture issues can DECOY our attention elsewhere.

"Do all things without complaining and disputing," (Philippians 2:14) God's love will make you self-controlled so you don't argue > "nor as being lords over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock." (1 Peter 5:3) So, this means how LOVE will keep you from arguing...NOT just by self-discipline. God's love will make you sweet and kind, "submitting to one another in the fear of God." (Ephesians 5:21) This is LOVE doctrine!!! Not just Bible bookworm stuff.

Sound doctrine is what God says whether one chooses to agree with it or not. False doctrine is what God has not said regardless of how strongly one may agree with it. (G3:4-5; Lk. 10:1-18)

Mike: There are probably atleast two very good reasons humanity has opposing views of the Bible.
1.) Saved (born-again) people strive to hear & see from God's view as outlined in His Bible. (Ro. 10:17) Unsaved people tend to blindly grope the Bible based on their feelings.
---Leon on 5/13/07

Sound doctrine cont'd:

2.) Not all born-again believers are at the same level of spiritual maturity in the Lord, e.g., pre-K babies can't possibly comprehend college level studies. (1 Cor. 3:2; Heb. 5)

MikeM I am sure you are right & I am wrong ... or is it the other way round?
All I know is that when I see two people who are both right, completely disagreeing, and I then say they can't both be right, and I say I don't know the answer myself, I am accused by both because I don't know that they are right in what they know.
There's only one thing I know (apart from God's love) and that is that I do not know.

Why do different Christians have different doctrines?

Because we humans are just too darn educated, too darn complicated to know the simple truths of the Bible. We understand the truths of the Bible using worldly knowledge. People, and most Christians, depend on science and technology to run our lives instead of God. We learn this dependance throughout elemenary and high school and college.
---Steveng on 5/12/07

People make it look like it isn't possible for us humans to be sure we understand God's word right; BUT it says,

"'So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth;
It shall not return to me void,
But it shall accomplish what I please,
And it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.'"
(Isaiah 55:11)

So, God's word is uncondtionally guaranteed to accomplish exactly ALL that God Himself means by His word!!! God BLESS you with this!!!

SoundDoctrine is sticknig only to the bible, nothnig added nor taking away, how you can tell is examing scripture to what the church teaches. For example, I once was a member of a Southern baptist church & they had put secular things in the building not relating to the bible at all;point is this, if they're adding worldly things to attract people to christ, it is wrong, we need to attract people to Jesus by the bible, not world items.
---candice on 5/12/07

God's message is crystal clear. Even a child can understand it plainly. People have twisted the message, chopped it up, and distorted it very badly. Read the Word for yourself, ask God for spiritual understanding as you read then you will know the truth from the false doctrine. There is enough there(bible) for God's children to eat on for all eternity. Are your teeth in good shape? God bless you my friend.

Titus 2:2-3 That the aged men be sober, grave, temperate, sound in faith, in charity, in patience. The aged women likewise, that they be in behaviour as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things;Titus 2:7-8 In all things shewing thyself a pattern of good works: in doctrine shewing uncorruptness, gravity, sincerity, Sound speech, that cannot be condemned; that he that is of the contrary part may be ashamed, having no evil thing to say of you.

Titus 1:13-16 This witness is true. Wherefore rebuke them sharply, that they may be sound in the faith; Not giving heed to Jewish fables, and commandments of men, that turn from the truth. ; in works they deny him, being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate.

Titus 2:1 But speak thou the things which become sound doctrine:

Titus 2:12-15 Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world; Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ; Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works. None of us do Tom.

The humility to recognize, understand & acknowledge that reality is priceless. Just as His salvation is priceless & without merit on our part.

heres the sound doctrine . God loves us,and wants to sacve us, despite us.when I think of how I have been during my life Iam totally awed, and literally blown away.God should have divorced me years ago,or at the least given up on me,I don,t deserve his salvation, not even close.

Fathers Word speaks to each of us individually in a way that is most conducive to & relative of our growth. His Word is truth & exist on a multitude of levels. There is a level that is understandable, even obvious to the most carnally minded. And there are levels that go progressively deeper as ones mind is increasing opened & submitted to the discernment of our guide & teacher within. That said I agree with Tom2's response. What ever one believes to be true for that one it's truth. Who am I to judge it.
---josef on 5/11/07

If I read a scripture in the bible, and you read the same scripture, we may not always get the same meaning. God may and sometimes does show us in different ways. Everything must line up with scripture. If it doesn't it is false. I've always heard this was in the bible, "rejoice at a death, mourn at a birth". I could not find nothing in scripture that says anything like that. Because it is the other way around.

I will also add that while many did not agree even with jesus, that doesn,t change the truth.all it means is many are living am=nd thinking in darkness lost.our priority needs to be to present jesus to the world, and with some help from other believers ,BUT MOSTLY THE HOLY SPIRIT, allow them to grow in spiritual truth AND LOVE THEM.

False doctrine is what you don't agree with.

---Ruben on 5/10/07

Sound doctrine is what was taught by Jesus and His Apostles and their successors. The unlearned may twist the scriptures to their own destruction (read Peter's letters), but by following proper authority, we can be assured of the Truth.

The Holy Spirit is a sound guide, but only for those who recognise Him. Given the extraordinary explosion of different groups within Christianity, there are very few people who can tell the Holy Spirit from their own thoughts.

If a preacher says that he has a "new revelation" and that nobody has ever known this before him, then it is a sure sign that his is about to teach false doctrine. It happens a lot in these end times. People who are interpreting the scriptures to suit their own wants and desires always teach false doctrine and many follow in their greed and sin.

Sound doctrine will line up with the Bible. It will not remove any portion of the Bible's teaching nor will it add anything to it. It will adhere to Christ's teaching and the pattern for living life and receiving the Holy Ghost and Gifts of the Spirit to live a Spiritual life, as listed in the Bible. It will be God given and not the doctrine set up by Councils of men.
