Aside from what we call the Lord's Prayer we are told to pray in faith, believing that we have already received. We are told to pray in agreement with the things God also wants. And we are told to not pray for things that will heap treasures upon us.

If you don't bow your heart, it doesn't matter what position you are in.
---Linda on 8/10/07

1) "There's no required position for prayer"-Bradley

Bradley, it is a fact that prostration(salat-contact prayers)is an ancient Abrahamic(Hebrew)custom, practice and tradition common among Jewish communities up until the Middle Ages.In fact, Karaite,Samaritan,Yemeni,Ethiopian Jews still practice prostrations during prayers.Ashkenazi Othodox Jews prostrate during Rosh Hashana and Yom Kipper.
---Lari_S on 8/9/07

2) Even in Christianity, prostration is part of religious and spiritual practices. The Russian Orthodox Church prostrate during prayers. In Eastern Orthodox and Roman Catholic churches, prostrations are used during the imposition of Holy Orders. Some Eastern Orthodox practitioners also use "low bows" (zemnoy poklon) during worship services. For more information on the ancient Hebrew custom and practice of prostration prayer please read "To Pray As a Jew" by Jewish scholar Hayim Donin.

Lari, you should probably refer to Nehemiah 9:5-37, 1 Kings 8:22-61, Matthew 14:19, Mark 6:41, 1 Timothy 2:8, and a slew of other verses I can't immediately recall where people don't pray facedown. There's no required position for prayer.

"Did Jesus pray by falling on his face?"-Steveng

Yes,Jesus, like all prophets and messengers of God Almighty performed salat "contact prayers" in total submission(Muslim) to God Almighty(The God of Abraham).Jesus followed the "Way-Faith-Religion" of Abraham in which salat(prostration-falling on face or foreheads) was a required practice in this faith. Read Matthew 26:39.

Did Jesus pray by falling on his face?
---Steveng on 7/30/07

1) According to the Bible, Jesus and all of the Biblical Prophets prayed(making salat like Muslims)to God Almighty by falling(prostrating)on their faces or foreheads.Read the following scriptures:

b. Genesis 17:3 -Abraham prayed to God falling on his face(salat).

e. Joshua 5:14 -Joshua prayed to God by falling on his face(salat).

f. Ezekiel 1:28 , 9:8 , 11:13 -Prophet Ezekiel prayed to God by falling on his face(salat).

God already knows the scripture the word is for you to read and be comforted by, to let you know if you are praying in the will of God, God wants to hear from you, from your heart, Not quotations from himself, Are you having a conversation with someone if you repeat every word they say? Talk to God he will answer you. He is as close as your heart.
---Exzucuh on 7/27/07

Without ceaseing. Praying should be like breatheing it becomes a habit to you. Love God He deserves your love. He saved you didn't He?
---catherine on 7/27/07

According to scripture means you use actual scriptures in your praying. Choose scriptures in your bible and then pray them back to God during your quiet time or anytime for that matter. God honors His Word and makes good on His promises but it does not hurt to remind Him of this during our prayer time. This is a powerful way to pray and does get answers.

I always kneel by my bed or anywhere as Jesus was example,He always knelt 2pray 2 His Father, first, then I would begin with praising, exhalting Him then thanksgiving/appreciation, then pray for others, family then myself n finish with "In Jesus's wonderful name I pray,Amen.
---jana on 7/27/07

Without ceaseing. Prayer should be like breathing it becomes a habit. You do it without thinking.
---catherine on 7/26/07

Only the prayer which comes from our heart can get to God's Heart.
---Cynthia on 7/16/07

Although Jesus is certainly the Divine Intercessor, there is no specific way to pray. Anyone who proclaims this is simply misinformed. Praying could be as simple as saying, "Lord please help me!"

Wow, Sue sometimes I start with thank yous and end with thank yous. I do not consider myself a great prayer. I do pray by the power of God And He knows that I love Him. All through the day we talk. A great prayer I am not.
---catherine on 6/21/07

Prayers must come from the heart. God hears our prayers if we are sincier, and humble ourselves. If one humbles themselves to God with a sincier prayer, he will more likely hear and answer that prayer over someone whom is praying for wants. God will supply all of our needs, and sometimes our wants. Seek first the Kingdom of God and all these things shall be added unto you.
---Rebecca_D on 6/21/07

Catherine, no biggy...I have the exact same problem! When I pray I always pray in Jesus' name, God's will be done. And I say thank you in advance.
---sue on 6/21/07

Jesus said before the "Lord's prayer" NOT to pray in vain repetition yet who has not memorized it? I think we should pray so as to not attract attention. We should worship God to lift Him in the spirit. Seek Biblical fulfillment around us & help in a walk toward God. Some raise their hands, some pray best laying flat on the floor (prone), others pray while walking in the woods, & some feel closest to God when holding hands with their family at the table. He loves all those and more...

Acts, Chapters 1 & 2, are my favorite kind of prayers. May those chapters bless you today.
God's looking for willing hearts, who hunger and thirst for His righteousness.
Surrender and let God fill your heart with boldness to pray the prayers of faith for others. God will not beg you to pray, but ask Him to stir your heart. Humble ourselves, lift up the Name of Jesus.

catherine, an example of praying according to the scriptures is repeating His word back to Him. Example: "Father you said you are the Lord my God who teaches me to profit who leads me in the way in which I should go." I need a job so I'm praying, believing and speaking your word over my life. You said you would counsel me with your eye upon me and I believe you and I speak this scripture over my life. Thank you Father for your word that leads us and guides us in paths of righteousness.
---Anonymous on 6/20/07

I am not sure what you mean according to scripture. Perhaps like Jesus, "My Father which aren't in heaven". There are simple prayers. There are thanksgiving prayers. There are praises prayers. There are crying prayers. There are just talking through the day prayers. There are asking prayers. There are begging prayers, There are just loving on God prayers. God hears all of them but only from true, born-again blood bought obedient children of God.
---catherine on 6/19/07

There are probably going to be many different answers to this question. I believe we are to pray to God the Father in the name of Jesus and should pray as the Spirit leads us.

I was told that stating your oath in court before proceedings with your hand on the bible with a promise (DO NOT SWEAR) will void US judicial law, Then you can quote from the bible where applies. Has anyone tried this?

A simple answer...unceasingly!
---NVBarbara on 6/18/07

According to 2nd Chronicles 7:14, "If MY people who are called by My name, humble themselves and pray, and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, THEN and only then will I hear from heaven, forgive their sin and heal their land.
---Anonymous on 6/18/07

Look at the various examples and models given in Scripture.

That should give you an idea.

(Your question as it stands, however, is too vague to come up with a really useful answer.)
---Jack on 6/18/07

Praying according to scripture is the samething as saying what the word says.
In 1John 5:14-15 it shows that the will of God is the word of God. Since God watches over His word to perform it He is waiting for someone to tell Him what He has promised or said in His word so He can do it for them.
