Why did Jesus suffer?
---Madison1101 on 4/5/08

The righteous suffer because it is good for us. It hurts most times when we are in the valley and rough spots, but it shapes and molds our character. For the good. Christianity is a suffering way. No cross, no crown. We will be scarred and battered children when we make it to heaven, but oh soo-o-o happy. Being a Christian much like being a soldier. We must fight and put on our armor everyday. Warfare is real.

greetings. No one is immune to suffering.Perfection of mankind has not been achieved on this earth therefore as long as people live suffering maintains it's place with the sinner as also with the righteous. There are tears when we are born and tears when we die. When we see the new Jerusalem then we will know the people have greatly matured and the righteous is near perfection.

"righteous in Him"

This is imputed righteousness as Scripture says. He does not share our righteousness. We have none. We share His righteousness by His grace.

"If I can "walk in the spirit" and not fulfill the lusts of the flesh"

Here's the issue. None of us walk perfectly in the Spirit. Thus, that fact = we are not "actually" righteous.

We are 'legally' righteous because of our covenant with Him.

Jesus says in the bible to remember that the world hated him first, so don't be surprised when they hate us. He also asked the question if the servant was greater than the master. Remember everything that he went through and know that he bore the brunt of the assault meant for man.

The righteous suffer because the end of days is near. Satan knows his time is short and is determined to take with him all that he can. His tactic is deception, distraction and false reality. Individuals that are not of the spirit do not understand the things of the spirit and don't believe that our fight is spiritual. These are satan's easy targets. The righteous suffer because they are a threat to his plan.

a servant, two in union equals one. When I was born again, I was born of the Spirit. Spirit begets spirit and if the Spirit that begets is holy, so is the spirit that is begotten. If I can "walk in the spirit" and not fulfill the lusts of the flesh, then there must be something about my spirit in union with Christ that manifests "no sin". The cross did away with who I was in Adam. The resurrection made me who I am in Christ.
---Linda on 7/28/07

When I was born again, I received that as done or, as many like to say, "finished". No more has to be done to my spirit to make me righteous in Him. The expression of the truth in Christ comes by the renewing of the mind to the person and work of Christ. However, suit yourself. I prefer the clothes He has suited me with.

"counted as righteousness" does NOT = actually righteous

"made the righteousness" is a Sovereign, legal edict. Abraham was an idol worshiper = NOT actually righteous

"joined to the Lord is one spirit with Him" = sharing a common Spirit. Yet, having the Holy Spirit inside does not eliminate human spirit, which = NOT actually righteous.
---a_servant on 7/28/07

righteous =
- acting in accord with divine or moral law
- free from guilt or sin

If one occasionally sins, they are not "actually" righteous.

In God's court, being legally righteous via our covenant with Jesus is better than being actually righteous, since none us can live without sin.

In answering why we suffer, it was necessary to show our guilt, to show why we are always eligible to suffer.

A servant, you neglect to say what it was Abraham believed. God commanded him to sacrifice His son and so he obeyed God, because he believed God(had faith). His believing was counted as righteousness not what he did. He obeyed in faith. If he hadn't obeyed Paul would not be using Him as an example(because then it means he didn't have faith). Don't neglect that the faith in those passages is about faith in obeying God.

"For He made Him to be sin who knew no sin that we might be made the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus."

Made the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus. If you don't believe you have been made righteous with His righteousness, then you don't believe He completely took away sin. His being made sin is exactly why we are made righteous in Him.

He that is joined to the Lord is one spirit with Him.

Can we all agree that the Lord Jesus Christ, the quickening Spirit, is righteous? If so, then being joined to Him and being one spirit with Him IS righteous.

Rom 4:22 And therefore it was imputed to him for righteousness.

James 2:23 ..Abraham believed God, and it was imputed to him for righteousness:

From Theopedia:
Imputed righteousness therefore means that upon repentance and belief in Christ, individuals are forensically declared righteous. This righteousness is not the believer's own, rather it is Christ's own righteousness 'imputed' to the believer.

Again, we are not "actually" righteous.

We Christians are actually Righteous because the Living God lives in us. We commune with Him. We sup with Him. We have a relationship with the Holy God. Yes, we are righteous in that we accepted His Son as our Lord and Saviour. Praise God for Jesus Christ.++ Oh, We also laugh when He laughs and cry when He cries.

Christians are not "actually" righteous, we still occasionally sin.

So . . .
Col 3:25 But he that doeth wrong shall receive for the wrong which he hath done..

Christians are "legally" righteous because Jesus' blood will always erase sin, after we confess & repent.

Example: you mark a blackboard, I erase it, you mark again, I erase again.

You acutally created marks, but legally you are "innocent" because the marks aren't there.

Cynthia, when I went through a devastating time in my life as a Christian, I wrote a poem. I can only give you a few lines because of the 85 word limit.
If I had an earthly father who loved me, then I wouldn't have ever known I could have a heavenly father who Adored me.
If I hadn't gone through suffering of a brokenheart, then I would have never known, "He heals the brokenhearted." I think that's all they will let me write in this one post.
---Donna on 7/25/07

Cynthia...The Bible says that it rains on the just and the unjust. Everyone suffers. It is part of life. If we didn't have bad times, we would never grow into the strong people that God wants us to be. You are growing through this pain and will be able to help others through their pain soon.

Christ suffer first for all. Our suffering is nothing like what he took on for us, so we can be free in every area of life. God is Love, there is peace in the midst of any difficulty we may have.
---Linda on 7/23/07

The world hates righteousness. When we represent Jesus we will suffer. Sickness & poverty are not what the bible refers to when it talks about suffering.

Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law.(Galatians 3:13)
Paul's thorn in the flesh itself is a prime example. It was persecution for the gospel.
---Rickey on 7/23/07

Because Jesus suffered for us, first. He loved us first. We are not better than God, so now we suffer for him and now we love Him.
---catherine on 7/23/07

Because Jesus suffered. "If they hated me first they will hate you". "All men will hate you because of me". Jesus said all because there are so many of them and so few of us. Also, keeps you in prayer and strengthens. "If you suffer with Christ you shall reign with Christ." Suffering for Christ shows that the Spirit is with you and is in you. Satan wants more than anything else, to shut up and shut down God's prophets and ministers. God will always raise up others.

"For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin." (Hebrews 4:15)

So, Jesus the Righteous went through all things that we go through, here on earth . . . in order that He can feel for us and minister to us what helped Him through it all.

So, THIS is a reason why we suffer here > so we can feel for others going through these troubles, and minister to them what has helped us.

why did Jesus suffer?HE alone is righteouis for all our righteousness is filthy rags.We suffer because we live in a fallen world,Christiansd are nor exempt.I am deaf and disabled but God hasnever failed me I have all I need in HIM one day all suffering will be over
---doree4573 on 7/22/07

Jesus suffered because he was obedient to the Father and His plan for salvation. Jesus did not want to suffer anymore than we as humans want to suffer, but He did. This is why he became God in the flesh. He can and does relate to our suffering, trials and tribulation. He is there to be our comfort. joy and peace when we are going through. Suffering can be good for us.
---Robyn on 7/22/07

I believe that Romans 8:16-18 answers the question, why the righteous suffer.

---Jenny on 7/22/07

We are told that we can ecpect all the sufferings Jesus did. We live in a fallen world. Even the best get things they don't deserve. Thank God we have authority and power in his name to be victorious, not only over, but also in these sufferings.
---john on 7/22/07

The Bible says the rain falls on the Just and the Unjust. I think thats a good way of telling us there are some things all humans are subject to. There is one thing the righteous have others don't and that is the assurance we always have God,in the name of Jesus, to help us through all things pertaining to our lives. Remember too, some things people bring on themselves with poor judgement or lack of taking care of their bodies. The Word says, God won't allow more on us than we can bear. We trust God.
---Darlene_1 on 7/22/07

Hi, Cynthia . . . nice to meet you > first, the righteous are not always right. And while we aren't, we suffer emotionally because of being in a selfish spirit making us available to such unnecessary suffering as we lord ourselves over others in worry and possessive relating.

And this takes an emotional toll, with medical consequences in our bodies and personalities. So, we need to get wise to this. Seeking pleasures and making things easy for ourselves...can help to keep us weak so we can suffer.
