There is no man who will ever be good enough to get into heaven. It is through the righteousness of Christ we become justified.

2 Corinthians 5:21 For he hath made him (Jesus)to be sin for us, who knew no sin, that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

Nobody is good enough to go to Heaven. "There is none righteous, no not one" (Romans 3:10). There is only One who is pure and that is Jesus Christ the Righteous (1John 2:1). It is by being in Christ that we get to go to Heaven. "All our righteousnesses are as filthy rags" says Isaiah 64:6. When born-again we have the perfection of Christ bestowed on us, due to His finished work on the Cross for sin. Sin cannot enter Heaven, so we enter into Heaven in Christ.

2 Corinthians 5:20-21

Now then, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were pleading through us: we implore you on Christs behalf, be reconciled to God. For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.

Definition of Righteous = Morally upright, without guilt or sin.

1) We are only considered "righteous" if we are in Jesus Christ and if we are "in Him" then we are in right standing with God, not because we are so good, but because of what Jesus did for us and because of His right standing with God, this becomes our right standing with God and we are welcome in heaven.

2) We cannot become any more righteous than we are the minute we accept Jesus as our Savior and accept His righteousness as our own, since we ourselves are never righteous enough by our own works. So with that said, then how can anyone think that we must go through purgatory to get into heaven. Will that make us MORE righteous? Not according to the bible.

Phil: The Calvinist teaching of election, to which I believe you are appealing (Sorry if I'm wrong.) is not that God calls some and rejects others. The teaching is that all are guilty as sinners (ex. see Rom. 3:10, etc.). Some of these God, in His great grace, calls to salvation. The others are not rejected, just not called. Don't necessarily agree completely but understand the theological concept.

Phil we finally agree on something!

No. A righteous man is not pure enough to go to Heaven (Psalm 51:5).
---Marcia on 8/16/07

There is nothing an individual can do to earn a place in Heaven. It is strictly by invitation only, God and God alone chooses who he will grant Grace and who he will reject.
---Phil_the_Elder on 8/16/07

Anyone who is clothed with the righteousness of Jesus is pure enough to go to Heaven.

As long as it is not self-righteousness, but the Righteousness Of Jesus Christ, then absolutely.
