Forced Abortion Countries

Would it be right for me/us not to buy things made in countries that force women to have abortions? I ask because my wife is Chinese and many of her friends had abortions because the police told them to have abortions.

Remember the things you buy have been made by people, not those who have made the abortiion policy.
Maybe the worker who made the things had herself been forced to have an abortion?

Thanks Lorra, I didn't really think that your comments could have been aimed at me. We all make mistakes and I sense that we are both 'on the same side' here.

Jesus didn't encourage boycotts.

When he was asked about whether people should pay taxes, he said "Render unto Caesar what is Caesar's, but unto God what is God's." (Matt. 22:21, Mark 12:17, Luke 20:25)

He DIDN'T say "boycott Rome because they march into other countries, kill people, enslave them, and force them to worship other gods".

RitaH, my reaction on this matter is so strong, but yes I agree with what you were saying. I fired off some rapid responses and I think I attributed to you what you were opposing from someone else.

I just cringe when I see the incredible misinformation out there. It shocks me when people actually believe that China and India are over populated. Especially when the campaign against their population growth began during a time when the most densely populated countries on earth were European (white).

Oh my gosh! Do they actually throw away girl babies in the gutters?!! :*( Horrible!! :*(

Notlaw, how could you have bought such a huge wagonload of ...

No, we are not even close to being overpopulated. We have so much food in the world that huge amounts of it are destroyed each year because it is cheaper to destroy it than to share it.

We could fit the entire current population into a land mass the size of the state of texas, comfortably. But is is better to be somewhat spread out to manage crops and tend to livestock.

There have been problems in some of these countries due to GENOCIDE, not overpopulation. For example, when we had all those concerts for relief in Ethiopia - guess what - they have droughts every year -but that year it was deliberately made worse by factions in Ethiopia who wanted to deliberately starve their enemies to death. Even when aid started to arrive - most of it was confiscated by warlords to sell to the highest bidder and make a profit.

RitaH, China throws girls in the gutter because it is a male dominated culture where females are considered to be inferior to males - but this was made into a much bigger problem when foreign agencies (with a history of racism) encouraged them (by government enforcement) to have only one child. In such a culture, an only child must be male -which has led to a significant gender imbalance in the newest generation - this will impact the country in terrible ways in the next 30 years.

RitaH, I would also remind you that many Chinese women do not want to have abortions and when discovered are forced to endure late term abortions which are almost as cruel as first trimester abortions. And one news story told of an infant being drowned in a mudpuddle before the screaming parents because they dared to bring an extra child into the world.

Chinese women need to be supported in their gender equality, not snuffed out before they are even born.

Not every place with forced abortions is even having trouble with population (other than the colour of their skin). I met a man from Latin America who lost his wife to the forced sterilization program - she was forced at gunpoint because she had exceeded the American ideal - even though her husband was middle-class, owned a nice home, and had no trouble feeding or clothing his children - until his wife was essentially murdered for your ideals.

Its not what I think that is important - what does God think?

evil will be called good and good evil.......sin is sin

I would definitely support a ban on Chinese imports and be willing to pay higher prices.

"The governments of these countries should be commended for their actions" These actions being (in the case of China at least) the throwing into the gutter of baby girls whilst still alive so that they can die there and be swept up with the litter the next day. Abortion is bad enough but discarding a live baby to die is not something that I can commend. Education in family planning is what is needed and a different attitude to the birth of females who are now outnumbered 6 - 1 by males.

Over population is a critical problem in the third world and these countries are taking positive actions to control the problem of over population with in their own resources. There is not enough food and resources to go around in these countries. Birth control and enforcement of family sizes are prudent actions to prevent actions to address famine and deplorable quality of life in these countries. The governments of these countries should be commended for their actions not criticized.

Boycotts only work if you let them know why you are boycotting them. Otherwise, they have no way of knowing what action is offensive. Please bear in mind that it was an American based family planning orginization that encouraged China into adopting the one child per family rule, and this same organization encourages China and other countries to abort "surplus" or "undesireable" offspring.

P2: If you really want to make a difference, start in your own back yard with agencies that are pushing these horrible practices on other nations through the UN and by direct contact. You might also want to look into your own government's policies on population control measures wrt other countries. My country has not been a shining example in this area.

Where would you shop? What would you buy? Almost everything (if not all) is made in other countries. Look at Wal-Mart, supposed to be all American made, yeah right. Even our gasoline comes from other countries. It is not your or your wife's fault if she comes from a country like that. what they do, God will deal with.

This is my opinion, and MY opinion only. If you do not buy from these coutries where will you buy from? The United States? There are many things that this country stands for or by that go against Biblical standards. It is the same for every country...Does that make sense?

Many might disagree with me but I think that sometimes the only way that we can show contempt for the atrocities in certain countries is to boycott their exports. This hits them hard but unfortunately it hurts everyone in that country, not just the perpetrators. Each individual must decide for themselves.
