Hi Lisa,

I would like to ask you a few questions:

In Rev. 20:13
"Who were the people being judged?"
"Where were they before they were judged?"

Here is a verse for you to look at:

Mt 22:32 I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob? God is not the God of the dead, but of the living.

Hope this helps.

Lord bless you,

...and they were judged every man according to their works.
Revelation 20:13
---Lisa on 10/3/07

All we need is faith to make it to heaven.
Faith will produce the good works. Thats why all we need is Faith.
ex..All we need is the sun, if we have that we have sunlight. We dont say, we have the sun, but we need sunlight also.
---duane on 9/25/07

Robyn .. I'm sorry, I obviously misunderstood! But I still can't see what it is in Duane's posts that you object to ... you both seem to be saying the same thing about works being an inevitable result of faith.
---alan_of_UK on 9/25/07

Truly, the "works" spoken of here in this verse should flow from a changed heart because you are a new creature IN CHRIST. Out of your love for Christ as well as for others, good works will flow, not to earn your way to Heaven, but because of what Christ has done for you.
---Cynthia on 9/24/07

the heart shows intent - if I do good works to make myself 'good enough' I insult Christ's work on the cross. My works are trash (filthy rags) compared to His work.
If I love others bc the love of the Father is in me - it produces fruit - which is love. love is always patient .....
---Andrea on 9/24/07

Jas 2:18 Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: show me thy faith without thy works, and I will show thee my faith by my works.

James, in the verse above, is encouraging the believer to act, to bare fruit, to be profitable unto God by helping his brothers and sisters, etc.

He's saying "you can tell me all you want about your faith. I'll show you my faith by my actions.

If one does not walk worthy of the Lord, what good did it do anyone that he's been born again?
---trey on 9/24/07

JIM: Not to put atheists down. But how can an atheist be loving? That is the most unloving thing a person can do is: hate your Lord and Saviour and not be thankful for what God has done for him/her.Where is the love in that? And I never said works will get anyone into heaven, by itself. Neither will faith. The two has to be combined. Duane said faith is all that is needed in his original post I responded to. That is not correct. You need more than faith. That is what I am referring to.
---Robyn on 9/24/07

alan_of_UK: I agree with faith without works is dead but I was not referring to that part of Duane's post. Some people feel ok, I have faith in God, now I can sit by and do nothing. Not true. Real faith will make you get up and do something in the name of Christ. I agree! I received the revelation...God bless.

1) I have a girl I work with who is a total non-believer, into all these dark types of things, absolutely loves things associated with the darkness, yet she has got to be the most loving, caring, self-less and giving person I know. I think I might have only met 1 or 2 Christians (including myself) who are as giving as she is. Yet...she is a total unbeliever. She has plenty of works, yet no faith in God and is not saved. What God has shown me is this...the bible says that God's giftings and...
---Holly4jc on 9/24/07

2) ...callings are irrevocable. So...when we are born...we are given gifts and have callings upon our lives. Even if we are not His we still operate in those giftings that He has given us. The girl I work with has the gift of compassion, mercy, helps and giving, so she operates in those. It is her gifting. Of course, the ideal would be if she were using those giftings for the kingdom of God and I pray that one day she does, but for now, she is still operating in them, looking like she is doing...
---Holly4jc on 9/24/07

3) ... a whole lot of good works, which they ARE good works and much appreciated by those she helps. God can use anyone to get things done and send help to people in need. Look at someone with an awesome singing voice, say Barbara Streisand. Her singing ability was one of her gifts from God and she is operating in it, although she is not a believer. Our giftings are irrevocable and we operate in them whether in Christ or not in Christ and sometimes those giftings produce "good works".
---Holly4jc on 9/24/07

Robyn....It's like duane said.Works will never show faith...some athiest are the most caring people around...A follower of christ will always do good works..not to earn salvation...but we will do good works because we are saved.
---JIM on 9/24/07

Duane said "No works will show lack of faith"
Surely that is saying "faith without works is dead"?
---alan_of_UK on 9/24/07

Duane: If you don't believe faith without works is dead you need to argue that with God. He said it, I believe it and that settles it for me. You are placing yourself above God when you dispute His Word. You are deperately in need of correct teaching. Please read James chap 2. If you are just saved you still don't have but half the truth. You need to add good works to that. I pray for your understanding to open.
---Robyn on 9/24/07

... Something to think about...
Works will never show faith, but
No works will show lack of faith.

Here is a conflict in the bible: Read John 8 and 9, then read Romans 9,10 and 11. One of the writers is lying. I'll put my money on the truth that John wrote because he was an eyewitness and Paul's writings are lies.
---Rich on 9/24/07

Rom 8:10 And if Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin, but the Spirit is life because of righteousness.

Christ is a gentleman He does not force His way in - we knock and He opens the door. It's true He is not at our beck and call. Debating the term 'ask Him into your heart' is semantics.
Do you have a better way to explain the act of 'contrition and faith in Christ' to an unbeliever?
I have not heard one. I would welcome suggestions.
---Andrea on 9/24/07

If you have or do good works, that goes NOT mean you have faith or prove you have faith in God. Any unbeliever or sinner can do and does good works (give to the poor, help the sick, ect.)

Good works of the flesh DO NOT show or prove faith, only the lack of faith. Theres a BIG difference.
All works are to be given in good faith or they are meaningless.
Thats why, real faith alone is all we need.
Faith produces all good works, anything not of faith is ???
---duane on 9/24/07

In response to Rob. God is the Person who initiates what we call A sinners prayer. It is not the Sinners prayer as another blogger wisely pointed out. It will be God calling you to spend in heaven with Him for ALL Eternity. [Work of the Person of the Holy Spirit in forgiveness of all of your sins]. Now on to the question posted. Faith alone can not save you you must produce fruit. [Good works] We believe in the one God so what so does the devil.

You need to prove your faith by works(good deeds) in the most basic terms. Do good for others, help the sick, poor, needy. Clothe the naked, help widows/orphans etc..
---Robyn on 9/23/07

Try it you might have quite an awakening. I'm on my way to a prayer meeting but if there has to be a full sentence in the Bible for every English word or experience for you - keep reading.

ask and you shall recieve

Christ in you, your hope of glory
etc etc etc
---Andrea on 9/23/07

Rob: You can read Romans ch 10vs 8-16, if you so choose. Ask the Holy Spirit to open up your understanding as you read and meditate over God's Word. You have to confess with your mouth and believe in your heart that Jesus was raised from the dead and you shall be saved. You don't have to pray a specific prayer but you must confess something with your mouth, preferably that your faith is in Jesus, and you believe in Him, and Him alone to save you. This is what has been called the Prayer of Salvation.
---Robyn on 9/23/07

Amen Rob!

The scriptures state:
1jo 4:19 We love him, because he first loved us.

Why do we want to take up our cross? Why do we want to follow our Lord?
Php 2:13 For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.

We are saved by grace through faith.

If however, when we have been regenerated and given this faith, we do not utilize it, then it is unprofitable. It is dead. Our eternal salvation is secure, but are useless here in the kingdom.

James 2:20 is the truth. There is a major false doctrine today which says, "faith-only", salvation is by faith only, works are vain and unnecessary, and do no works for salvation. This lie of "do nothing" for salvation has led many into becoming barren trees and trees polluted with unrepented sin, and the end of those deceived by this deadly lie will be the eternal abyss. True love is action, it is not belief only but it is full of works, this is the Command: Do the works of Christ.

I have yet to come across a place in the Bible that tells us we are to ask God into our hearts, or pray the prayer of salvation. If these things are in the Bible, show me where.

We are saved by GRACE THROUGH FAITH (believing in the TRUE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST) AND NOT BY WORKS, Ephesians 2:8-9.

Robin - when you ask GOD to come into your heart, He does and it changes everything.

There are many people - different religions -great philosophies that promote good clean living. But its not about that.

Its literal -- literal -- God comes into ROBIN and He resides in you. Sin is nothing, defeated, not bc you fight it so well but bc He has already won.

Faith without the fruit of faith is empty and futile as far as the world is concerned. You demonstrate your faith by your actions. Faith is the root, and the root produces the kind of fruit that the root itself is. If you have a living faith, there is going to be fruit in your life. Paul says, examine yourselves whether ye be in the faith, prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates?

So in other words, Andrea, when Jesus told the woman caught in adultery to go and sin no more, she should have responded. Oh, but your gift was enough. I can't add to it by refusing to sin...
Don't you think that her encounter with Jesus compelled her to do His will? So with us.
I agree that we are saved by grace. Where we differ is that my encounter with Jesus compells me to WANT to do his will. And I don't feel any need to try and justify my behaviors that are contrary to His law.

Andrea has some very insightful answers to this blog.
---Mima on 9/22/07

Faith allows one to believe lies without feeling guilty and without searching and knowing the truth. Everyone starts out in faith, the more truth you learn, the less faith you need. You will not need faith in heaven. Truth does matter! So do 'deeds'. After all, if you love Christ you will abide in Him and keep all ten commandments.
---Rich on 9/21/07

Andrea, it is a good thing then that no one is trying to work for their salvation. Why I cannot even imagine any church that would teach such heresy. I am glad that the Catholic Church does not teach such foolishness. But I do get very concerned when the unlearned tell me that it is wrong for me to do good works.

Based on what I have seen on this site, you should spend more time encouraging others to do the Will of the Father and less time preaching to the converted.

Romans 10:17 says, "So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God." FAITH is a synonym for Jesus Christ (Rev. 19:11). So then CHRIST cometh by hearing and hearing by the word of God. Go to Hebrews 11 and where you see "faith", insert Christ and see what you find. Only God can save for man is spiritually DEAD in sin (Ephesians2:1-3).
---Ed_from_IL on 9/21/07

Faith produces 'good' works when we allow God to work through us - not when we decide what is pleasing to God.

he has told us the scarifice that He desires

when we work for our salvation we might as well throw trash at the foot of His cross

bc we say"IT WAS NOT ENOUGH JESUS" I need to add a little favor - see me Jesus - see what I did today - didn't I do good - wasn't that a nice addition to your cross Jesus

I'm surprised He tolerates any of us

1 Thessalonians 1:3

Actually "FAITH" is a work (1 Thess 1:3, 2 Thess 1:11). Please also note that prayer, repentence, water baptism, etc are ALL works also. Ephesians 2:8,9 and Titus 3:5 tells us that we CANNOT be saved by our works. Christ did ALL the work to save a person. The key verses are in Galatians 2:16, 20 and Philippians 3:9. Mamy well meaning people are following a grace/works gospel that keeps them under the wrath of God.

If you are walking in the Holy Spirit, people will see good works because you automatically become a doer of Gods work. Gods Spirit always leads you to DO for OTHERS and it is automatic. Not by might or by power but by the Spirit says the Lord. Not that you are working your way to heaven. Or that YOU can BOAST but for HIS GLORY and to help HIS children.

Believing in Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour without living under His Lordship is dead faith, for even the devil believes that. A lot of people confess their faith in Jesus but don't act or behave like they do - to all these He will say, away from me all of you "wrong-doers", I don't know you! Stay warned!

Faith without works will not profit, and cannot save us. What doth it profit, my brethren, if a man say he hath faith, and have not works? Can faith save him? According to the Bible it cannot. Faith which does not save will not profit us.>>>All things should be accounted profitable to us as they tend to forward or hinder the salvation of our souls. Now, people will say, "You are trying to work your way to heaven". Not if you have been bought by the Blood of Jesus Christ.>>>Cont.
---catherine on 9/6/07

Cont faith and works>>>Not if you have been bought by the Blood of Jesus Christ, first and formost. So work by the power of the living God. Paul said,"Thou makest a profession, sayest thou hast faith, I make no such boasts, but leave my works to speak for me". This is the evidence by which the scriptures all along teach men to judge both of themselves and others. And this is the evidence according to which Christ, the one true God, will proceed at the day of judgment.

If you will go back about two verses you will find the following: James 2:18 But someone may well say, "You have faith and I have works, show me your faith without the works, and I will show you my faith by my works."

In others words faith without action gets you nowhere. You can believe in Jesus, head knowledge, but without faith from the heart it means nothing. True faith from the heart brings about a new person, a DESIRE to live for the Lord. Abraham was justified by faith because he believed God and he acted upon the belief and faith by obedience.
