COC is a cult! Religions say they are the only ones going to heaven or the only church, is a cult in my eyes! I call it the COC poison which so many have been brain washed, Legalism! They dont see womans worth. Take scriptures, men ahead of households & wife should be submissive to her husband out of context!!! They lack the Holy Spirit & don't walk in love!! They are righteous & judgmental! I cant wait to see their faces when we get to heaven, all the glorious praise & worship with instruments to Christ Jesus! No where in the Bible does it say we cant use instruments in church!! And they overlook other verses you dont have to be baptized to be saved! Yes, we should. But not a must for salvation!!

God set forth rules for HIS church and those rule are to be followed with full obedience. It's NOT about you or me it's about worshiping our Lord.YOU might not like it but women are to be silent in the church. This is scripture.I am not saying God does not call or tell us all (men or women) to go and preach the word of God, according to the scriptures He does. Do not be mistaken He does not tell women to oversee or run a church that is instructed for the men. Like it or not that is the word of God. As for music, not once in the New Testament have I read instruments in the church. I have read not to add or take away and that sounds like adding to me. If He wanted instruments He would have instructed us to do so. Remeber WHO worship is about.

Hi, I thought I was the only one who had experienced this at a Church of Christ many years ago, I left that church because of the obvious and blatant sexism. Women were considered nothing more than decoration--and cleaning the church of course!
---Mary on 11/2/08

I worked for a Church of Christ school and found it nice except for that no musical instrument thing. I found it hard to find my alto part with no music to help me when I led worship in chapel. I'm sorry, I just gotta have instruments unless I know the alto part perfectly. Then, it doesn't matter. I never experienced the woman not being allowed to preach thing although a student did tell me they would be a christian when they were baptized- that kind of made me wonder.

i was reared under the Church of Christ and left when i became older. after now reading the word with understanding through the holy spirit i tried to go back to that fellowship and could not get past one service. their ways are to conflicting with what the bible teaches. this churh not only constrics women and others with gifts but also constrics the holy spirit. it was not the place of worship for me. woman can teach the young in sunday school but not the entire church on a sunday? hummmmm

My church has opprotunities for women and men such as a readers program where they go to other countries and read the bible with those who do not know Jesus, so aside from learning more English, they have the opprotunity to hear the gospel. And there are more opprotunities. So if they do not get to preach or whatever then it is legalistic?
---Kella3336 on 10/9/07

From my experience with the Church of Christ(where I fellowship) is that there is a lot of warmth and a fervant desire to spread the gospel. And as a woman, I have never felt that by being the weaker vessel, I am somehow less valuable.
---Kella3336 on 10/9/07

Not every Church Of Christ is non musical. The first coC I fellowshiped with played music. Where I am now attending, they do not. Honestly, to focus on this and not see that this church sticks close to the bible. And to hold it against them because they take a stand against women preachers. It may not be popular or always feel right but in truth the bible has final word.

amen - Michelle "amen"

"And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffers violence, and the violent take it by force.

I am going to make a declaration over all women right now.
I declare women of God that you are rising up to take the positions in the ministry God has called you too. You are highly favored of the Lord. He has given you many gifts and he wants you to bless others with those gifts. I declare that the same Spirit that caused Miriam to dance and Rahab to hide the spies is rising up in us and causing us to move beyond what we can see or think. I declare that we are full of power, truth and love.
---Michelle on 9/22/07

.andrea, you will believe whatever you desire.
---Eloy on 9/14/07

Eloy - I have read all the different opinions and scriptures, the only way it figures bc one speaks of marriage -
others refer to church these say woman keep quiet they're contextual - look at the whole, woman also given gift of prophecy for the whole church

I look at God's heart
God does not show favorites
He's more interested in the whole body then individuals - submission for the sake of the whole is fine
He's not legalistic but spirtual
He expects us to grow in Spirit and truth
---Andrea on 9/13/07

.andrea, the problem is, God is not leading any woman to go against his established order, women whom want to go against the written instructions of God's word are not being led by the word but instead by their own desires. Therefore if a woman wants to do her own will instead of God's, she should leave the faith because there are enough of people maligning God's name and hypocritically professing they are Christian when they have no obedience to the Word.
---Eloy on 9/13/07

.andrea, Please Read- Genesis 3:12,13,16-19,24+ Psalm 1:1+ I Corinthians 14:34,35+ I Timothy 2:11-14.
---Eloy on 9/13/07

The Church of Christ which split from the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) is the denomination which does not believe in musical instruments in church. They also do not allow women ministers or divorced pastors.
---Susie on 9/12/07

first you all need to read the facts straight from the Bible about the women . No they are NOT under minded . we simply follow God's rules .God said NO , he meant NO on certain things . I want to be an elder but I dont qualify as God set for in the BIble . NOw am I wrong for getting Mad ? If I clean a church , which I have is that wrong ? I am not a women . Read the bible , see what GOD says about women .go to the coc and ask questions not get opinions .

Eloy - if we being led by the Spirit do what the Spirit leads us to do - is that wrong. Or do you wait on your church to interpret the scriptures. Bc I read the same scripture and I do not read sexism and legalism. But I do not believe in causing division in a church. So if woman feel they are not treated as God wants them to be treated - they should leave and find another church.
Not leave the faith!
---Andrea on 9/12/07

thank god i had friends who helped me see the true gospel.i was raised in that church.its a church but it never helped me as a teenager when things got brother went into the navy they failed him as he was in there.he told me that most of the churches he gose to now has more help for him.there almost cult like.
---john6745 on 9/12/07

.andrea, if women rebel against men leading the church as instructed by God's word, then those women are in disobedience and should either repent from this sin or else leave the faith, instead of accusing the brothers for following God's order. If your own desires conflict with God's yet you choose your own over his, then what does that say about your love for God and his ways? Women can partake in the ministry, but they are forbidden headship of the church which is appointed for the man.
---Eloy on 9/11/07

Men lead the Christian church, not women. Scripture reads that women are forbidden in the pulpit. Today it is in vogue to "do your own thing" rather than follow the Holy Bible and its precepts, and many women today disregard this proper order in the church. Jesus never called any woman to be one of his 12 Apostles, for weaker vessels are not made for bearing the sword. A woman might fight, but she was not made for muscle nor for being the head of the family nor for leading in spiritual matters.

Nature itself teaches us that men and women are not the same and each has different functions in life. For example, a man cannot become pregnant, and a woman cannot produce seed to produce a baby, yet both the man and the helpermate are required to have offspring and have a family. There is a right order that God has established and can be followed in his word, therefore whom is any one to disrupt what their Maker has set for their own good?
---Eloy on 9/11/07

Excellent. Jody Martin, right on target. Spirit of Error, llegalism, that false religious spirit is rising its ugly head again.

Jesus couldn't stand the PHARISEES.
---Whisper on 9/11/07

Eloy - with God all things are possible.

and you are correct - woman should leave the CoC
---Andrea on 9/11/07

Because they are hung up in the LAW and FLESH. They missed out in the liberty in Jesus Christ and have not read Pslms re music.ha. Their doctrine keeps them in bondage to sin and is a stumbling block. Sad:) It is called Legalism and Jesus HATED it. They are also "righteous Judges",:). They are not the only denomination that are LEGALISTIC.:)These are to be avoided.

If you don't like the CoCs rules, leave and find another church. The Bible is very clear that women are forbidden to preach in church, and the Bible even tells us why, the 1st man Adam was not in the transgression, but the weaker vessel woman was, she disobeyed and instead of repenting she also led her husband into joining her in sin against God, and thus the whole human race has been fallen because of the first woman's lead. If I were a woman I would be honored to have men lead as instructed in the Bible
---Eloy on 9/10/07

Funny thing is that we have a woman pastor in our COC that is in our town. That doesn't match what you all are saying!!??
---Rich on 9/10/07

I was referring to the Church of Christ in general. I guess some think of it as a cult, but I don't, I jsut think the one I attended doesn't let the women fully grow in God except to teach other women or children, we ALL are caleld to be ministers, NOT elders, or pastors.
---candice on 9/10/07

I'm confused - which CoC are we discussing. I didn't think they were cult.

Hi Candice :) Yeah, I think what did it for me was when I saw the differences in how they treated a male missionary and then later a female missionary. The minister actually sat up front with her and said he didn't want her to "take the pulpit"! He also once said he was a little disappointed a couple had a daughter--he was hoping for a boy "but girls are nice too"! :(
---Mary on 9/10/07

Cults usually are strict because whomever founded these estblishments do not have the truth or know the truth. What else can you expect? The cult leaders are antichrist. When you are your own God you don't listen to anyone. You make all the rules and do as you please. This is what the RCC, LDS, SDA's have done. The penalty is going to be havey indeed, for what they are doing and have done, to God's people. This is why we should be well studied, prayed up and careful not lead anyone wrong.
---Robyn on 9/10/07

Mary i hear you. The only time a woman can read scripture or hold a reasonable disscussion about the scripture in a group setting is not permitted in the main sanctuary, however it is in small bible groups or life groups or if the woman is leading a Womans bible study. count...

Gal 3:28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free man, there is neither male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.

So many men believe they are doing God a favor by not allowing woman to do the work the Lord sets before them.

Christ looks at the inner person - not the outer man (woman).
