The soul is not the mind, and the soul is not the spirit, they are separate. Each person is made up of a body, which is the building or flesh, a spirit, which is the breath or aspiration, and a soul, which is the life or anima. The soul can be living or dead. When one dies the spirit leaves the body and soul, and goes back to God. The body and soul remain behind on earth, until that time that the Lord will call for the dead to rise. (Mark 12:30, Acts 17:25, I Thessalonians 5:23, Hebrews 4:12).

Soul>>>The part of humans' inner nature that is the seat of our appetites, passions, and sensations. Note:Sometimes the word soul means "persons" [Romans 13-1].>>>Spirit>>A word that denotes our reason, conscience, and nobler affection-in contrast to the soul-our appetites passions, and sensations. [2 Corin. 7-1 and Eph. 4-23].>>> The root meaning of the word is wind.

The difference between the two are found in Genesis 2:7 "And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life: and man became a living soul" therefore according to this text the spirit is the breath which is given of God and man was formed of the dust of the ground which is the body which makes the Soul a completion of man`s existance. Spirit + Body = Soul

As Robin wrote, Gen. 2:7 is an excellent place to start a study. First, God is a Spirit. He created man in His image (a spirit). He then formed(not created)a body from the earth, into which He breathed the breath of life (soul). Our body and soul make up who we are on earth. Our spirit defines who we are to God. Look up body, soul, spirit and tabernacle as well as pot to the potter.

Most are not familiar with the fact that a "soul" (nephesh Heb. Psyche Gr.) is a living sentient creature including man, animals fish etc. Ref= Strong's Concordance , Gen. 1.20. "Let the water teem with living creatures" (nephesh)1.24-" let the land produce living creatures" (nephesh)NIV.

greetings.spirit is not physical-naturally.Soul is likewise not physical. That which enters the domain of heaven must not possess any physical nature.-"Flesh and blood cannot enter heaven".Spirit is substance unseen(the spiritual elemental chart is off the scale compared to the one here on earth)."Spirit of a person is simply the verse KJV-Jo.1:9.The light that lighteth every one is also refered to as the indwelling, the (S)pirit bears witness with our (s)pirit.

greetings.2.The soul is born when one appeals to his Father,(reborn of the spirit). The soul is a life statement of you and the relationship with our Father. No relationship ,no life.Jesus spoke of lifeless people when he stated ,"let the dead bury the dead"

A soul is a living being: "And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life and man became a living soul" Gen 2:7. Body + Breath of life = A living soul. The term is used for animals also. Spirit is the breath of life from God. We see this by studying the hebrew and greek words that are translated into "soul" and "spirit."

The clearest disticntion is they are never used interchangably or as synonyms. The bible does not record Christ coming to redeem the spirit because spirit is of God and provides life. Spirit is immortal because it is of God and God is inherently immortal. The soul can perish (Matthew 10:28 & John 3:16). The other significant factor is they are two different words with their own individual meanings. THis is a topic of great confusion, however, the bible is very clear soul and spirit are not the same.

Both the soul and the spirit of a man are immortal, they are so closely related that it is hard to distinguish the finest details of difference between them but there is a difference. This is clear from 1 Thessalonians 5:23 and Hebrews 4:12 in general the spirit is that which KNOWS 1 Corinthians 2:11 and the soul is that which FEELS. Job 14:22
