ED) You are very discerning. The Bible teaches that in the latter days the love of many will wax cold. It also teaches that you "will know them by their fruits". I believe that many thay you are comming across that are claiming to be Christian are decieved. These are not showing the fruits of the Spirit if they seem or angry and lack joy. They may be unsaved.

I'm a Christian and I have depression, but I still have a joy for life. But I know my depression is caused by a lot of different factors. Just because people are Christians, doesn't mean they can't have depression or be bipolar or some other mental illness. Many of those problems are caused by imbalances in the brain.

Read the Psalms King David had heaps of instances of depression. Being that the Bible is Holy Spirit inspired it is clear that Christians can be despressed.

Its hard being a follower of Christ sometimes but we just have to keep pressing towards the mark. Life is a big marathon, and in the end, true believers win this race.

Its a hard life, but its worth it being a christian. Keep pressing towards the mark, and victory is here now!

Matthew 18:34 Speaks of how persons who have unforgiveness in their heart will be given over to the TORTURERS, well that describes many Christians and many churches today, and that is why I beleive many in the church are depressed and angry, and cold love is now common and accepted and is a demonic stronghold and not of God.

Many Christians today do not have the baptism of the Holy Ghost and cannot discern the difference of being sad or depressed and an oppressing spirit from satan.
A spirit can bring an infirmity. They can be healed but if the spirit is not cast out the infirmity will just return.
On the other hand, the house can be cleansed and swept but without the Holy Ghost to fill the void spot where the unclean spirit was removed the spirit will just come back with it's afflictions and infirmities.

The "love" in our hearts is Christ.
The "joy" in our hearts is Christ.
The joy is of our salvation.
The actual walk with the Lord is on of carrying your cross and being willing to go forth with weeping bearing precious seed (Christ, the Word) that we may enter heaven rejoicing.

Bet this post goes over well with the heretics that want to love this life he commanded us to be willing to hate!

Clinical depression is an alteration in brain chemistry. This is not the same as discouragement, boredom, grieving.
Many times it is caused by not eating right, not getting exercise and sunlight, not getting adequate rest and having chronic stress in your life.
Medications can help but often have negative side effects. An excellent book to show the way to recovery is "Depression the Way Out by Neil Nedley, M.D.

Christians are not depress or angry. If they don't get and stay close to the Lord thy God they will not make it. What constitutes a Christian is the question of the hour? Judge whether the living God lives in them or not. Life for a Christian is all about serving God. Loving God first then your neighbors. There isn't much love for neighbors, too much abuse. I believe Satan is way too busy putting God's peoples down. It is God's people's duty to not ignore sin. It is not meekness or love to do so.

Many Christians have suffered traumas as children, and were never taught how to deal with that trauma for a variety of reasons. This, and biochemistry, can lead to depression. Many of these children are not raised in Christian homes, and become Christians in adulthood, but have never been taught coping skills to deal with their pain.

It is only by working through the trauma, and learning how to walk by the Spirit can a person experience the Joy that is a part of the Fruit of the Spirit.

More:Today is a rare day for me to feel a little depressed but I have learned to trust in God. He will see me through this.Christians are allowed to be angry we are not machines. We are humans who have been forgiven of our many sins. Our hope and trust is in Jesus. We make mistakes and sin daily. But Jesus is able to pardon every sin and forgive every wrong we commit. This makes the difference. With a God like that who can stay angry and depressed?

Ed: Yes Christians do get depressed about many things. It is not realistic to think that this Christian journey is going to be all fun and joy. We will have ecstatic moments in our walk. Many times will be joyful, full of praise, love for Jesus and everyone. But there is a flip side.Suffering, tears, pain, persecution is a very very real part of Christianity. Some of us suffer daily. Today is a rare day for me. Guess what? I feel a little depressed.

Like the average run of people, some Christians are depressed and angry. And some are happy and peaceful.

well...if I wants things I want and can't sweetly take no for answer with joy thanking You...well, I'm going to be depressed and frustrated and irritable . . . I suppose. and others are going to say their depression couldn't possibly be because of sin, but in my case . . . can't say that, and so I confess and God takes care of it very nicely...better than years of pills and people who DON't know me can take care of me (o: it pays to get the diagnosis right and not be in denial

Sometimes christians will go through some depression. Read Psalms and see how David was depressed and called out to the Lord.(Psalm 143:7). In (1 Samuel 16) it says that the Spirit of the Lord left Samuel and the Lord sent a tormenting spirit that filled him with depression and fear. BUT Jesus says in (John 16:33)-"These things I have spoken to you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world."

It's a fact of life that people in All walks of life regardless of being saved will get depressed. There is no where in the bible that say's if you are saved you will not have troubles and tribulations far from it. I't what you do with the situation that counts. whether you stay in pity party or give thanks in it, in waiting for your breakthrough it is stated that you will gain patients longsuffering is also a fruit of the spirit. No suffering can be fun, But we give thanks and with grace move on.
