Frienship Evangelism In Acts

After considering this verse, Acts 2-41,"and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls." What role did lifestyle evangelism(some refer to it as friendship evangelism ) play in the 3000 souls being won to the Lord? Comments

Trish9863 - Can you tell me please where it is in the Bible?
---Helen_5378 on 11/9/07

Helen: You are wrong. I was saved because a friend in high school befriended me in junior high and witnessed and invited me to church. The same goes for my husband. The same goes for the friends of my daughter who came to church with us and prayed to accept Christ when my daughter witnessed to them. Friendship evangelism has its place. It is totally Biblical.

This does not apply as this conversion of that number was a movement of the Holy Spirit upon the Croud. It had nothing to do with lifestyle or friendship but rather the Holy Spirit speaking directly to each persons heart.

Acts 2:38: "Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized
every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins,
and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. 39: For the promise is
unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as
many as the Lord our God shall call."

Paul testifies to the same path to Salvation as those 3000
underwent when he declares Romans 10:12: "For there is no difference
between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto
all that call upon him. 13: For whosoever shall call upon the name of the
Lord shall be saved. 14: How then shall they call on him in whom they
have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have
not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?"

Paul also declared, Romans 10:17: "So then faith cometh by hearing, and
hearing by the word of God."

Those 3000 souls did not just appear from thin air. Rather they
were "men of Judaea, and all ye that dwell at Jerusalem". Did
not Jesus said in John 6:45: "It is written in the prophets, And
they shall be all taught of God. Every man therefore that hath
heard, and hath learned of the Father, cometh unto me."? See
also Isaiah 54:13.

I actually see elements of "Lifestyle", "Frienship" and even
"Prophetic" evangelism in their conversion. They came because
it was "noised abroad" of the signs and wonders of the Holy
Ghost and they witnessed it. Peter called for a witness the
spoken words of the prophet Joel (Joel 2:), he appealed to
their very own aquaintance with Jesus:

Acts 2:22: Ye men of Israel, hear these words, Jesus of Nazareth,
a man approved of God among you by miracles and wonders and
signs, which God did by him in the midst of you, as ye yourselves
also know:" Also to the prophetic sayings of David concerning the
Christ to come "of the fruit of his loins, according to the flesh".

Right after Peter said: Acts 2:36: "Therefore let all the house of
Israel know assuredly, that God hath made that same Jesus, whom
ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ." that "they were pricked in
their heart" asked Peter and the rest of the apostles, Men and
brethren, "what shall we do?"

The preaching of the Cross, i.e. Jesus Christ and Him crucified, by Peter in Acts 2:1-40 was what saved the 3,000 souls. Friendship evangelism is NOT Biblical and does NOT get anybody saved. Jesus does NOT say to "go make friends with the unsaved", Jesus says "go, preach the gospel". It is only by the preaching of the Cross that anybody gets saved.

Lifestyle played very little role that day, if any at all, but I might bet a nickle that everyday after that it was important because the ones who got saved would now be the example to the others who were still lost. Just like anything else that's new, the first buyers just buy it but the rest of us want to see if it's really any good first.

People were, and still are, won to Jesus through signs, wonders and miracles. These signs are still in action today, but many deny it.

Youre only question is? What role did the disciples play in the 3000 souls being won to the Lord? They had spread the word of God as Christ had commanded, that was their part. If you need something made clear, youll get the best answer from the most straight forward questions?
---Shawn.M.T on 11/6/07

Mima: Once again, you take something good and try to make it seem bad. Friendship evangelism has its place, as does your style of evangelism. Neither is better. Neither is worse.

What are you trying to prove by posing this question?
---Trish9863 on 11/6/07

"'By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.'" (John 13:35) I see that our love for one another can show people something inviting them to become Family with us.

Possibly, those three thousand had time relating with Jesus' disciples before that message, so that they could know who the disciples were, and HOW they were in "different" love.

!!!mima!!! is that a "loaded" question against friendship evangelism?????

Jesus wants me to love all people > "For if you love those who love you, what reward have you?" (in Matthew 5:46) And Jesus loved us, desiring to spend all eternity with us > Jesus had the time come here to relate with us personally, including how He resorted with His disciples in the garden (John 18:2). So, I can see if I really love people, I desire to spend eternity with each one, and so I'm interested in spending time, NOW, with each person, not just telling them the word.
